“I have a slightly complicated hair situation - it's naturally dark brown (and long), then had a lot of foils, then I used henna + indigo for a year and also I've got quite a few greys! It was getting way too dark with the repeated henna + indigo-ing so I spent ages trying to find an option to colour over it. There were plenty of horror stories to read on the internet, and hairdressers were also reluctant to provide much advice other than to avoid the grocery store box dyes because apparently you can get some bizarre results. I found The Shade during my internet searches, and was initially worried about whether the henna/indigo would react with the hydrogen peroxide but in the end gave it a go because it was ammonia free and sounded like higher quality dye than the supermarket dyes. I went for the golden brown - I probably left it on too long at the hairline roots so it intially came out a bit more red than expected (though this has faded nicely with a couple of washes) and in the areas where the colour was on for less time it looked really nice. It's covered the greys well and hasn't done anything weird with the henna-treated midlengths. I think I still have a way to go as now my roots are lighter, the mid lengths have remained very dark (I don't think there's much I can do about that other than grow it out) and the ends are lighter again from the old foils, but I think given my hair circumstances it's the best it could have turned out! And I'll definitely be continuing to use until I finally grow out that dastardly henna & indigo :-) Thanks The Shade!”

“It was very easy process and my hair came out so soft it felt like I had been to the hairdresser. The colour is lovely too. The only downside is that it barely covered my gray and white hairs, and when I washed my hair for the first time since colouring it all of the colour on them washed away. It was disappointing seeing as I followed the instructions about gray hair to the absolute letter. I guess my greys are more stubborn than most.”

“I love the smell and colour however after 2 weeks I find that the colour has more or less faded after a few washs and I don't even wash my hair everyday so in this regard it is disappointing. Comparing this to other brands, I'm afraid I won't be re-purchasing it. Also, I don't why but my hair became rather dry and frizzy after each wash which requires a signifcant amount of argan oil so sadly I won't be re-purchasing it. Thank you for the kit - that piece was a great idea and I like it a lot!”

“I love the IDEA of The Shade, but the experience wasn't fantastic. First of all, the packaging was great and the little at-home kit with the brush and bowl are made well. Unfortunately, the barrier oil smelled awful; I didn't even put it on and decided to use some moisturiser instead. The hair dye itself was fine and the colour came out nice. I had a bit of staining around my hairline, so I went to use the dye remover wipe. Wowza! Big mistake. It felt like my skin was burning, and I had to wash it off straight away. Overall, this system might work well for those who aren't as conscientious about the chemicals they put on their skin (it is hair dye, after all), but I won't be using it again. It seems like a total waste to buy the whole kit when I will only be using the colour cream.”
