“I’ve been using The Shade for a couple of years now. I love the chemical free products that promote hair health. Its great using the 27 Vol with my colour for a little extra coverage with stubborn greys. Being able to manage subscriptions and colour choices are helpful. The team are supportive and informative with advice on achieving your best results at home xox”

This was the first time I had dyed my hair and although I went through the consultation process the end colour was not any lighter than what I originally had (although was intended to be two shades lighter) but has a strange slightly yellow tinge.”

“Trust the advice of the colourist. I have been a long user of commercial professional dyes, so my challenge was remove the brassy warmth and gold tones out of my hair without having to go to a salon for advice. The advice on the 6.1 and 7.1 duo was spot on. Worked a treat to cover my white white roots and am super happy with my shade.”

“I had one of the best colours so far on the first week of colouring. However, on the second week my hair was back to how it was- grays were back and hair was super dry although I followed the colourist's advice and all. If you tell me where I got it wrong, I am willing to give it another go because I like the natural ingredients used. Thank you!”

“I really LOVE The Shade! I had grown out my hair to my natural colour (see first pic) and worn it proudly for over 5 years. But I really wanted a change. With the help and advice of Camilla, Colourist at The Shade, I choose the colour duo - Napoli 7 Dark Blonde and San Remo 8.13 Light Ash Golden Blonde. I only used the #20 developer and it worked a treat. The process was really easy but, best of all, I just love the result (see second pic). The colour combination works really well with my curly hair and it has a multi-dimensional finish - not flat. My hair feels lovely afterward, too. Thank you so much.”

“Used shade Ash Brown. Usually go for light ash brown but fancied a darker shade. Really nice finish. No warm tones either. Easy to use. Been using for a few years now. Glad to have found the shade. Saves so much $$$ and love all the colour choices :)”

“Followed the instructions, watched the videos and read all the reviews with hope that at home hair colouring was now more achievable than ever. Ended in tears, regret and disappointment. My own fault for ever thinking I could do what a trained hairdresser can do. Waste of money and time and sanity! Ended up with bright orange and yellow hair, now my beautiful blonde locks are brunette after an emergency and embarrassing trip to a hairdresser to fix. Never again. Just go to the hairdresser.”

Hi Amanda, Sorry you weren't happy with your colour. You coloured with a darkest brown + dark brown combination. If you saw a black colour result from that colour blends, that indicates that your hair over-absorbed the colour, leading to a darker colour result. That indicates that your hair may be porous as porous hair can over-absorb colour. Hair can have increased porosity if it has previously been lightened (particularly repeated lightening processes), if it is damaged, or some natural hair textures such as curly or very fine hair can naturally be more porous. Going forward, if your hair is dry or damaged, then it is best to try to boost and improve the condition of your hair to reduce porosity, and also to bear in mind that you are likely to have darker colour results so to adjust your colour selection to bear that in mind. We can advise how to soften your colour and a colourist will be in touch to provide further advice. I can see that you contacted our colourist team for advise yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
