TURO Upon arriving at the Portland, Maine airport, the Turo team served us an enormous “SH*T SANDWICH” that ended up costing us $1,600US. They had canceled our two week reservation while we were in the air - a reservation that we had made 2 1/2 months earlier because of the well-known shortage of rental cars and accommodations in Portland during the fall foliage season. Turo’s irresponsible action left us high and dry - with absolutely zero rental cars available in the Portland area. Without a car, we could not get to our reserved accommodations a hundred miles away in Belfast, and the only room available in Portland was at the Hilton at the rate of $295/night. The two week vacation that we had planned and reserved 2 1/2 months ago had just turned to “SH*T”! The stated excuse for the cancellation was that there was a problem with a tire. But in our fruitless search for a rental car we were told by an airport official and several car rental agents that Turo was engaged in an illegal scheme of staging rental cars a the airport parking lots with an attached combination lock box containing the keys. We were told that, when the lock boxes were discovered, the airport authorities would have the car towed off the lot. Several people at the airport suggested that the car we reserved had been towed, and that the tire excuse was BS. I should note that the Turo team stepped in to“address/solved our problem” by offering us a three day rental somewhere in Maine that would begin in 12 days - the day before our scheduled flight back to Denver. The next day, our landlady in Belfast rescued us by arranging local transportation to Belfast ($200) and locating a Enterprise rental car in Belfast (at $1,900: $1,100 more that the prepaid Turo reservation). So, by spending an extra $1,600 and wasting one day of our vacation, we were able to recover from Turo’s thoughtless and irresponsible actions.

This company is absolute GARBAGE. they are scammers, and that is it. Their customer service reps are in a foreign country. They don't give a darn about you . I attempted to book a trip, and used the wrong card. No biggie, I got a text saying it didn't go through and I had 4 hours to update the info. Okay. Within 1 hour I updated the card and was about to hit pay- except the price had increased nearly $200! After dealing with their garbage csr , I was told they can't change the trip fee and that it was all done automatically by the system and that I should just eat that extra $200 fee. They could not justify why it went up, they couldn't explain what that 4 hour window was supposed to do because it sure as hell didn't lock in the rate- and they are overall just a worthless company. I decided, $500 for a scion for a week was too much, went to car rental8 and got a much nicer kia for 230!!! For 1 week and a day! Way better deal!!! Deleted my turo account, and will forever warn people against them!

I rented a car from Turo for 4 days. Before returning the car the car was cleaned and vacuumed out. About a half and hour after the car was returned I noticed they try to charge my card an additional $150. Luckily my card was locked. I then noticed they had sent me an email from The Host trying to charge $150 smoking fee. He included three pictures of specs of dirt or something in the cup holder. And that was proof enough for them to say that someone was smoking in the car. No one ever smoked anything inside that vehicle!! Upon reading their policy it's stated in highlighted that there has to be proof that someone actually smoked and lit a cigarette or cannabis inside the vehicle. Which no one ever did!! I have a smoker so I did have cigarettes. But nothing was ever lit inside that vehicle!! For the simple fact that I knew they would try to charge $150 cleaning fee. Nowhere does it stay in their policy that you aren't allowed to have tobacco products on you. Just that you aren't allowed to smoke. Which is fine and acceptable. Two room is a scam and I guess their host start too!!

First and last Turo experience. I booked a Cadillac Escalade 2021 top of the line vehicle for my wife’s birthday because she was graduating with her bachelors degree on the same day. This is a once in a lifetime deal and Turo ruined it. I was in contact with the host for over 30 days including late in the Week prior to the trip date because I wanted to ensure we would be ok. I bought her a bunch of presents that would only fit in a 3rd row SUV. The host cancelled the vehicle 10 hours before the pick up time and said it was due to maintenance. Turo will not give me the same car with the same conditions because it would cost them money. I needed 800 miles and travel and 4 days rental. In other words, I had to settle for a vehicle my wife did not ask for. This vehicle is much less luxury SUV and was the only ride that was available and even close to the Escalade. For me to get what I originally booked, they wanted $750 up from on top of the $971 I already spent. And even then, the mileage wasn’t adding up. Moral of the story, don’t use Turo. They don’t ensure that the customer gets what they book even when they can. I had to eat the cost and bear the burden. It costed them nothing and they didn’t care. The guy on the phone just kept saying that’s all we can do. He tried to put me in a 2014 Escalade or a Chrysler Pacifica. Man, if there was ever a time you wanted to snatch someone up through the phone, THAT WAS IT. Anyway, you can’t say you weren’t told if you book them and they cancel on you the day of your need and leave you with nothing to drive except a smart car. Just Go to enterprise or a luxury rental place.

I have been a host for them for three years and they have gotten worse. This is the second time I have been waiting on my car to be paid off from the claims department. I would not suggest anyone join this company to make extra money. If a guess have an accident in your car you will be stuck paying a note for a car you do not have. RIDICULOUS

I will never use Turo again - they charged me a $150 cleaning fee for driving with the windows down. There is no customer service. They wanted me to buy a new tire for the car we used. Disputes are handled automatically and always side with Turo host in my experience. Beware.

Definitely do not waste your time with this shady business. Don’t let the price fool you, It is not worth it. About three weeks after my trip, I received multiple invoices for tolls that I disputed and resolved with the toll company direct however, Turo and The Astro group did not refund any of these unauthorized charges even though their account was refunded by the toll company after fees, and penalties were waived by the toll company. It was an absolutely embarrassing experience, and I would use caution if you’re even thinking about using this company. Customer service I would rate it 0. Price was acceptable. I would just say buyer beware and as always, you get what you pay for.

Put my 2023 car on turo, 2nd booking damaged my car. Both host and guest reported damage. Turo stated they'll respond in 2 working days. It's not been a whole week. This app is dodgy don't host your car on here! They'll leave u helpless and neglect you, even though they say the opposite "don't worry turo will take care of this and that"

My employer changed my plans, so I needed to return the vehicle 5 days early. Even though the owner promptly took possession of the vehicle when I returned it, he then decided to cancel the reservation modification, and then billed me the extra 5 days!!! $541.30!! Then tried to claim that the car was returned dirty and needed additional cleaning! $150 MORE. Even though I had timed and dated pictures of the vehicle inside and out from multiple viewpoints at drop-off, as well as owner saying "Looks good", Turo's "policy" is screw the renter!!! They just automatically believe the owner and nothing I could do or say would convince them otherwise. Nor would they take the photos as evidence of when it was returned. I wonder what sort of cut Turo gets from these charges as they are MOST DEFINITELY NOT in favor of the renter and all the incentives are in place to screw the renter of the vehicle when they can. Cost me $691.30 to learn NEVER EVER to use Turo thieves ever again!!! I'm not someone that writes many reviews, but TURO REALLY IS A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION!!

Over the holiday weekend, I along with three friends rented a car from someone who was listed as an “all-star” host on Turo. This car was not properly maintained and was past its inspection date. The car ultimately had a full engine failure, leaving us stranded in a parking lot for 4 hours and 3.5 hours from home. The Turo support team did not offer much help, and I was left to contact the tow truck, find a mechanic that was open on the holiday, and arrange transportation home. I was unable to get in contact with my host at the time and Turo was unable to either leaving me with instructions to get in contact with the host when the host returned my calls and messages to give them the tow truck information and update them on everything that had transpired. Given it was a holiday weekend, and the distance I was from home - my only option was to call an Uber to safely transport us back. This Uber amounted to more than the original rental. When I first spoke with the support team, I was ensured I’d be reimbursed the full cost of the rental and Uber ride home. For the reimbursement they said the “executive support team” would reach out to me. The executive support team offered to reimburse me a measly $38.74 for the Uber and said the first support representative was incorrect and they would not reimburse the full Uber. This would have left me with an expense that was more than the original rental. The executive support team also refused to speak on the phone with me and would only communicate via email. This did not allow me to describe my side of the story and allowed them to cherry pick which emails to respond to and not respond to me all together. Overall, I would not choose to rent from this company again given the poor customer support which left me to handle all the necessary actions to ensure the car was fixed and get myself and others home safely, that does not stand behind its customers, and refuses to speak on the phone and is unresponsive via email.

BEWARE PET OWNERS. I recently booked a "pet friendly" van through TURO. My trip was over 2000 miles and , of course, there was pet hair in the van upon return. We spent one hour removing the hair from the van even though we not asked to clean the vehicle. I received a $150 fee from turo and a threat to not let me rent a car through them because i had a pet in my car. When i pointed out that the van was listed as "pet friendly" they then claimed that there was excessive hair. My host was also surprised by the fee I was charged as she knew she allowed pets. Turo is a dishonest company, in my opinion, who looks for ways to make money off of people using their service. I am still fighting this charge but want to warn other pet owners that even if a car as listed as pet friendly, you will be charge a fee if you bring your pet- unless you have a bald pet!

I have been a 5 star host on Turo since June 2021. I have gone above and beyond for guests. Turo takes absolute advantage of hosts and constantly change policies and host requirements. Hosts are left paying several non-reimbursable costs and do not make their fair share of splitting payments. They complete “random audits” and will require you to change your listing, even if it puts the host at risk for liability. Hosts aren’t allowed to have any say in what they are or aren’t comfortable with guests doing with their car - if you decline a trip, your rating goes down. I will never host on Turo, rent on Turo, or recommend it to anyone I know. Stay away from this scam of a company.

I booked a car over 3 months ago, the guy cancelled while I was on the plane and was left stranded at Luton Airport alone at 3am. I have been charged in full, been unable to book another car, unable to get hold of anyone from customer service via the terrible chatbot, trying to call, and even reaching out to team representatives on LinkedIn. From what I can tell this is SCAM!! DO NOT BOOK WITH TURO

On my trip in a Turo rental, three of the four tires failed. I looked closely at the third, and it was a passenger car tire rated for a max load of 1929 pounds... on a Ford Transit 350 XLT, which weighs 10,000 pounds unloaded and comes from the factory with light truck tires. I payed for the first two tires to be replaced being assured by the owner that I would be reimbursed, and I used the spare on the third. It took Turo over two months to get back to me after telling me they were going to seriously look into the situation for potential action against the owner. Their communication at that point was to tell me that I was not liable to pay for any damages to the vehicle and that they were closing the case. I responded that they owed me over $400 for the repairs I did to the vehicle, and it took them another two weeks to issue that refund. With at least that resolved, I went in to review my trip, and was locked out. Either the organization is very incompetent, or they purposefully drag out cases that could potentially result in bad reviews for their owners beyond the period of time they have arbitrarily set as the review period. The owner of the vehicle in question still has a five-star rating, and Turo customer service refused to open up the option for me to review my experience. Unlike other rental companies, I am convinced Turo cannot effectively regulate the upkeep of fleets of cars owned by private individuals. As such, finding your drive with Turo may mean finding your last drive ever.

2 cancellations by host. 1st was over a month from trip date. The second was less than 24 hrs notice in Juneau. Came in on cruise ship and checked my messages to find out where to get the car and had a text. Joemilo decided he had better things to do than hold up his end of the agreement.
