“Fantastic website and marketing - if only it followed through into the product and customer service . My choices: drill two large un-level holes in my wall to compensate for uneven holes in the shelf or pay for my own return. Definitely won’t be shopping here again .”

“Delivery was prompt. However, I am very disappointed with the shelves. They are not at all the colour described. The stain has been scantily applied and is patchy. Given that these shelves are priced higher than comparable items at lower prices, I am disappointed with the quality and the service. They have not offered a refund and expect you to pay postage to return the item even though it is not of standard or as described.”

“I was very disappointed with the finish of the walnut shelves I ordered. They were a very strange colour that was nothing like walnut and it looked as if only one coat of stain had been applied when they needed a lot more. I did not want the hassle and cost of returning them so was obliged to spend over £13 on some Briwax walnut polish and stain to bring the finish up to an acceptable standard. We had been happy with some previous shelves which were a different colour so I was surprised how poor these were.”

“I was disappointed with my product. I chose the shabby chic style, however the item looks unfinished. I was gutted because the depth, width and cutting of the wood was just what I was after. I plan the return my item but would like to suggest an alternative style. Really gutted ☹️”

“I have to admit I’m quite disappointed. It looks well done yes but I paid over £50 For my item and I do not think it was worth the money I wish I had got a real oak shelf and now I can’t return it”

“The colour is not as expected and differs greatly from the previous order I made I am at Ben Simpson Furniture so we are very disappointed with this. We bought again to get a shelf to match however one is oak coloured and the other is a light grey/white. We will now need to treat the wood in order to attempt to match it with the existing shelf which is frustrating due to time needed and further expense.”

“My order arrived very well packaged and promptly. However, I rang you yesterday at 9.35 to complain that the end of the metal brackets were bright silver where they have been ground and chamfered. I was told (pleasantly) I would have to degrease them and paint them black if they were to fit in with the new woodburner I am having fitted. Now ordered spray paint from Amazon at £9.80 plus I have all the additional work Not happy. - hence the POOR grading. All your literature gives the impression of complete black metalwork. I was contemplating purchasing hairpin tables to complete my new look - will I need to respray them also. ??? In the interests of objectivity I must say that the wood is excellent.”

Hi Steve, I am very sorry to hear you were disappointed with your order. I thought it would be best for me to respond to you by explaining the nature of our metal brackets. Our rustic metal brackets are handcrafted locally in West Sussex. They are made from raw steel, we coat them with WD-40 to reduce surface rust. These brackets will vary slightly in colour and texture due to the handmade nature of the product, this does not affect the quality or strength of the product and we feel it adds to the character of the product. Unfortunately we are not able to paint the brackets black due to the amount of sawdust in the air in our workshop. I hope this clears any confusion up and gives you an explanation on your issue. “The table itself is nicely made - very sturdy, and of good quality. When it arrived, the stain/oil on the wood was still wet, so it bled onto the cardboard box, and we had to let it dry out for a few days before putting it together. I'm not sure why the holes aren't pre-drilled - seems odd for us to have to do it. The provided drill bit snapped in half after two legs were put on, so we had to improvise. We also weren't given enough screws so we had to use some of our own, which didn't match the original screws so it looks a bit funny. All in all - quite disappointed.”
