“the worst experience. totally dishonest. I paid upfront for a month and then extended my stay by another month and without any notice they added an extra EU 500 to the monthly rate and would not back down and only told us a week before we were checking out!!!............. totally impossible to get hold of when the fridge stopped working and all our food was ruined. they lied about everything......... The worst!!!!!!!!!”
“We unfortunately had a bad experience with Homelike, mainly due to the poor communication between Homelike and the apartment owners and vague additional costs. We payed the full rent up front of our stay but we were chased by the apartment owners as we had to pay extra for cleaning and additional service fees. These fees should either be included in the rent and in the fee of Homelike or should be mentioned upfront and clearly outlined. When we tried to explain that in our opinion we already payed the full rent and fees upfront the apartment owner warned us that they would throw us out of the appartement if we didn’t pay these extra additional costs. When we reached out to Homelike to address this we didn’t got any explanation about how, or why these costs weren’t added upfront and they just stated the amount that we had to pay extra which wasn’t stated on the website when we booked this appartement. To avoid vague additional costs we recommend to book your appartement directly with the apartment owners. Homelike can’t be trusted as it is vague about the total costs of renting an apartment on their website and doesn’t help their customers when they reach out.”
“I sent a booking request for an apartment in Nürnberg from Nov. 1 to Feb. 28. An agent from Homelike contacted me to confirm my booking and walked me through the rest of the process. The agent then contacted the landlord to accept my booking request. The request was accepted. I proceeded with the booking process within an hour of the request being accepted. I made the Kaution deposit, uploaded the bank transfer receipt, purchased the addition rental insurance they offer, and signed the rental agreement. My completed booking
was confirmed by Homelike.
I was instructed on my profile dashboard to contact the landlord
to coordinate details of the move-in. I sent the landlord an email. The next day the landlord emailed me back saying that he is not in the country and Homelike made a mistake by double booking the apartment?!?! What? Homelike told me the landlord approved my request. Not sure what is going on, but this is completely unprofessional. I am waiting to hear back from Homelike to see how they will fix this. I expect this issue to be resolved immediately with an apartment in Nürnberg from Nov to end of Feb which I have paid for and signed a rental contract.”
“Worst company ever, if u see this , take this as a sign!! They will take ur money and stop providing service even thought they provided poor service from the beginning , i paid a big amount of money only for the booking they leave you with a landlord who you can’t even reach whats even more ironic is that they confirm the booking when the landlord doesn’t even answer , they keep on insisting on not cancelling and even ask more money! I was waiting for a response for 2 weeks and time was going really quick :( Shame ! SCAM company , as an international student this was the worst experience ever”
“Beware of deceptive corporate practices as well as unresponsive customer service agents. Boarder line Entrapment!
Tried calling all day every hour and no response. Only response was via emails and even though I provided screenshots of their own policy they will not refund my payment.
Their process is: Apply > Approved > Paid > Booked > Finished
There refund policy for my application was: Booked date (90 euro penalty), 30 days before move-in (1st month rent) then Move-in date (termination policy).
They take payment then provide the contract to sign. There were inconsistencies with the contract and thus it has not been signed. I applied for the cancellation the same day.”
“I would highly recommend staying away from Homelike. I booked a room in a WG through them and as soon as the payment was made the name of the landlord came up. 'Habyt'. You just need to Google Habyt to understand why I was extremely concerned... What disappointed me the most was that the Homelike rep I was speaking to was very responsive and helpful at first, as soon as the payment had been taken they went completely silent. I emailed them 4 or 5 times due to my concerns about Habyt but 0 response. In the end I canceled the booking which cost me 90 euros even though it was only 2 days after the payment was taken.
Honestly I would use these agency's as a last LAST resort and only if you are completely desperate. At the end of the day their primary goal is to make as much money as possible. Your needs are secondary, you may get lucky and get a decent place or you might end up in a rotting horrow show of a room/flat. It's not worth the risk.”
“I agree they are facilitating dishonest Landlords. I rented a flat in Hampstead London on their platform (Jan 2024). First month fine but when I tried to extend the UK property company (Airlet) said dates weren't available so could I rebook directly and ask for refund. Unfortunately Homelike sent the refund to the UK Company Airlet and he is refusing to forward the refund and he has also refused to repay my deposit his words were "sue me" and "good luck with that". Im owed just short of £4000. Customer service was great but now they don't reply to emails or call. Any one else had dealings with Airlet?”
“HOMELIKE IS FACILITATING SCAMS! AVOID AVOID
AVOID AT ALL COSTS - SCAM COMPANY!
I rented an apartment through Homelike in Frankfurt. After returning the apartment in a better condition than it was given to us we are still waiting for our deposit to be returned from the landlord (SBC Office).
The landlord is not responding, and home like is just sending the landlord a reminder to reach out to me (tenant). Nothing else, just a reminder.
I have been following up with homelike for weeks. They said they have escalated it to a higher level but all they do is send emails. After weeks and weeks over and back today (May 7th) they just told me to get legal advice and they can’t get a hold of the landlord.
The landlord still owes me €1000 and Homelike are still advertising this landlord on their website.
So they have no binding agreement with the landlord that even if he doesn't respond to them they just tell the tenant to get legal advice? Unbelievable, I used your service to avoid this.
HOMELIKE IS FACILITATING SCAMS AVOID AND SPREAD THE WORD ALL OVER THE INTERNET TO STOP THIS COMPANY TAKEN PEOPLES HARD EARNED MONEY”
“They violated their own contract conditions and stole my rent deposit
The contract conditions state I must pay a security deposit "before" moving in. They do not specify --how long-- before. I requested to take photos of the current condition (including possible existing damages ) the day of moving in, but before receiving the keys or actually moving in. And then I said I would immediately pay the security deposit, after assessing the condition of the apartment, but BEFORE moving in. Homelike refused, without showing me any contract language detailing how long before moving in I must pay. They then cancelled my reservation, said I was a no-show, and kept my first month's rent as a cancellation fee. I call this thievery and am preparing to take them to court.
Date of experience: April 05, 2024”
“People.... stay away! I do not know about other similar companies. But I have been dealing with these people for 2 months now. They work with shady landlords, who literally try to suck the most out of your life. Typical frauds! I thought it was only me who got fooled. Look into their negative reviews from TrustPilot. These people would only side with the landlords, who could be frauds posing as landlords. I have filed a major complaint against my situation, and I really hope this message reaches the most people so no one would get into this situation anymore.
I am deeply sad and harassed and disappointment. And being a single parent, they never helped me get through this. All I would say is, ask around. And never ever accept a deal without having a look at the apartment.”
“Extremely aggressive and they give 0 support. They accuse you of non existing things.
P.S the person that called me was not even able to understand basic questions.”
“Homelike is the symbol of what is going wrong with online booking platforms. The customer service is as robotic as it can be (S/O Alberto), under the banner of their T&Cs (that they treat like if it was the First Testament) they are willing to do everything but to understand the person in front of them.
You should change your approach and try to be more customer centric, because without your users you are nothing.”
“We are in our 60’s, and are financially sound.
Found a place for an appropriate 2 month stay in Valencia, Spain on HomeLike.
The calendar confirmed my dates.
Sent in the request.
Later on Google, I found an enormous amount of bad reviews on HomeLike about poor landlords, landlords stealing security deposits, HomeLike reps disappearing after taking in a tenant’s money, etc.
I emailed my concern and asked if they could give my any reviews on the landlord or the apartment.
No reply.
HomeLike simply emailed me that the apartment was now no longer available for my time slot.
Feels very, very shady.”
“My recent rental experience with Homelike and their local agency, Checkmyguest, has left me utterly disappointed.
The apartment, marketed as a premium remote work space with a high monthly rental cost (even for Paris standards), turned out to be a nightmare.
The ongoing noisy building works, were suspiciously absent from the listing, despite having commenced six months before the start of our tenancy. This omission drastically disrupted our daily routine and made remote work, an essential part of our stay.
Even more disconcerting was Checkmyguest's ineptitude in addressing our concerns. Numerous non-functional items (including basic ones like heating) were reported, but they were left unresolved.
The garden, an advertised amenity, fell into disarray without any of the promised maintenance.
The most concerning aspect of this experience is Checkmyguest's arbitrary decision to withhold a substantial portion of our deposit, citing damages that were there prior to our arrival.
Homelike's failure to hold their local agency accountable for these egregious actions and telling us that our only recourse is to sue Checkmyguest speaks volumes about their own commitment to customer satisfaction. The "Homelike guarantee" amounts basically to paying for nothing. We elected to go through Homelike as opposed to directly (which would have saved us €5,000 at least) because we wanted to be covered by what we thought was a reputable company like Airbnb or Booking. Nothing further from the truth. They are just a leach in the process that get money but provide no service. Avoid them at all costs”
“Who pays pal charges landlord ot tenant? Has asked company as owner
demands tenant to pay paypal charges in CASH and keep adding to the rent
“As the recipient of funds, you are responsible for all PayPal fees. Fees for receiving money are typically a fixed fee plus a percentage of your transaction total. PayPal fees also vary by payment type, currency received, payment method, and whether the transaction is domestic or international.”
2. Blaming the tenant staying in 3 plus months has created the mould when most of the windows do not open ( told by the owner not to open certain ways)
3 no heating or hot water ( owner controls through smart home system )
Does not want to fix the issues and blames tenant?”
“On my own with terrible company based on Spain called for you rentals
Beware!! They provide an apartment that has nothing to do with the.pcitures and descriptions
They trying to blame me for electrical.problems that we experienced from day one and they holding my security deposit.of 3000 euros that they are trying to steal.
Maybe police and legal ways will be involved .”
“Would stay away from this company. Tried to book an apartment in Berlin, they debited my account then cancelled the booking straight away. They eventually refunded my money less about $120 in fees They haven’t responded to all my messages. I would never recommend or use this company”
