I cannot speak highly enough of the care that I received at the Newcastle upon Tyne vein centre. Dr David Shaw went above and beyond to help me with my problem. Mine was not a straightforward case and required an extra level of caring and knowledge which I definitely felt I received. Professional but kind, Dr Shaw put me at my ease as did the attending nurse. I also had a call from him at a later date to check up on a couple of things which was very thoughtful. I wholeheartedly recommend the centre and Dr Shaw. Thank you Yours sincerely. Jane Vergnano.

I attended a consultation last July. I was very nervous as I am very conscious of my legs however I had saved hard & decided to go for it & change my life. The clinic was very nice, I arrived on the hottest day of the year & was quickly offered water etc. I was however very disappointed with my consultation. I wasn’t made to feel comfortable & if I’m honest I felt very rushed, the consultant didn’t seem positive & quickly told me all of the cons of treatment & rushed through any questions I had. Eight months on I have still not had treatment despite being so excited to book in prior to my appointment.

It is important that our Consultants discuss every aspect of the treatment process including the risks to make sure that you are fully informed before consenting to treatment. First impressions were good, receptionist was nice & welcoming. Doctor was thorough too & went over everything I needed to know.

Dear Mr Sharif, We are sorry to hear you felt there was a time shortage.  We have a standard time allotted for each appointment, which should cover all required aspects of it. While we do keep to a time schedule, in the event that an appointment should need more time, this is something that we always consider and regularly accommodate. Made very welcome by the receptionist. Dr Mark Bratby and his nurse did a very professional procedure on my legs and thoroughly discussed everything after the procedure. I will recommend using your services at your Centre

Was made to feel very at ease throughout the consultation both by the Doctor and the nurse. Both were lovely and I felt very comfortable having my legs examined and having the ultrasound carried out. Everything was explained throughout and I feel confident going forward for the treatment

Very informative, discussed all options available and which one would be the best. All my questions were answered and I was made to feel at ease throughout visit, I was informed of full cost during the consultation. Overall very good experience.

Everything from my initial phone inquiry to the consultation was professional. Everyone was very helpful and I felt at ease. I was very impressed with the treatment I’m going to have, the consultant explained everything in detail and I’m looking forward to the end result.

The service and attention I received was outstanding. I was made to feel very welcome by all the staff . Got offered a cup of Tea and biscuit while waiting and the reception staff were very chatty & friendly . Dr Susie Goodwin was great and made me feel at ease. She listened to me attentively and explained very clearly the various procedures that were available and also any risk that comes with any procedure . The examination was very thorough and she explained everything that was happening on the ultra sound scanner. She gave me peace of mind that she would be able to help with my unsightly varicose veins issues in both my legs . I left the consultation feeling confident that when I receive my treatments that I will be in safe hands of Dr Susie and the rest of the team .

My experience of booking an appointment via telephone wasn't great. Background noise was very loud. However when I arrived for my consultation I was treated very nicely.

My first telephone consultation assured me that being on a form of medication ( apixaban ) would cause no issue to my objective of having varicose veins cosmetically enhanced . This was not the case. When I met the consultant, he confirmed the opposite even stating I was a complex clotter and “ maybe a risk of losing a limb “ if we were to progress. To date , I have not been refunded. I must emphasise however , the consultant was professional, assuring and empathetic. His communication and SME feedback was excellent, To date however , I have not been reimbursed my initial £100 phone consultation

Dr Letto Mailli, nurse and receptionist were all lovely and friendly. I have probably the worst legs in the world and I'm very self conscious about them, so this was a big step even having the first consultation and ultrasound. I am just waiting for the report to come through and then I have a couple of further questions before I book treatment. I am very scared, but I will have the Recommended surgery, I've had two children, it can't be worse than that can it?

I was happy with the consultation but not at all happy when I phoned up to make an appointment to have my veins done. I was told I needed to pay a non-refundable deposit of £500. When I asked what would happen if I was ill I was told it ‘would be taken into consideration’ with the implication being that the deposit wouldn’t be transferred to an alternative appointment. I think this is taking advantage of people. The procedure is an awful lot of money and I certainly didn’t go down this route half heartedly. The consultation itself is very expensive and the start of the commitment to the treatment. To be told that a £500 deposit paid for a booking is very likely to be lost seems unethical. I was also told at this point that the consultant I needed to have to do the procedure only worked one day a week which is highly inconvenient for those of us with full time jobs. At the time of phoning I said I wanted to speak to someone at the clinic I had attended. The person I was speaking to seemed very reluctant about this but did eventually say they’d get someone to call me - I have heard nothing.

Dear Mrs Gibson,  Thank you for leaving a review. Sorry to hear that you are unhappy regarding the deposit. We would like to take this opportunity to explain things further.  A non-refundable deposit is taken at the point of booking to ensure that we have commitment to the appointment as organised. We understand that there could be times where circumstances change, such as illness, and we would of course transfer that to a future appointment. The deposit is more to safeguard against excessive "no show" patients.  Consultant availability, in some locations, is limited to one day per week. That picture does change over time and consultants scale up and down their availability throughout they year to cope with demand, whilst balancing their commitment to the NHS.  We hope the above helps and our clinic manager will be in touch soon to discuss this further.
