“I received a leaflet from Checkatrade and out of the 60 ads, they all contained the same area code - not one mobile number. Then I noticed that 57 of the ads shared only 2 district codes. I smell a rat, but I won’t be phoning Checkatrade for pest control. It’s obvious that these are different extensions for the same 2 numbers. I wanted a quote for fitting a water pump - labour only - and I would supply the electrical feed. I was told it was a 2hr job and £150. It’s a 30 minute job - max. Incidentally I was previously looking for a TV aerial installation and had a reply from a shuttering carpenter!”

“Checkatrade has been going downhill for a while. My negative review on a company didn't get published, they still have five stars, but it's not true. You can't trust their recommendations. Always go with recommendations from friends or neighbours.”

“After speaking to someone who called me asking whether i could do a emergency job for them which After explaining the job to me I declined to do as I was too busy this person which I have never met or been round to his property he left a bad review on my website with a score of 1 out of 10 so with 142 other reviews on my checkatrade website all with 10 out of 10 scores this person has totally ruined my profile after speaking to checkatrade they said that people can do this so after paying checkatrade over £2000 every year for 5 years as a member I've decided to leave because if anyone that one of its members doesn't know or worked for can do this personally I think that it is very wrong so hopefully checkatrade might be able to get in contact with the person that left this review on my website and ask him to join and pay £10000 over the next 5 years which they will not be getting from me SHAME ON YOU CHECKATRADE LOOK AFTER YOUR MEMBERS FIRST NOT JO BLOG'S THAT MIGHT HAVE CALLED ME FROM A PHONE BOX BECAUSE YOU WON'T PROVIDE ME WITH ANY DETAILS ABOUT THIS PERSON”

“I have left 2 mediocre reviews for 2 tradespeople of which check a trade say after they will contact me to verify my review before they publish them. They never do. Customer service are useless as just say someone will be in touch but no-one ever is. I believe they only publish good reviews to keep the paying tradespeople happy who have business accounts with them and don't bother following up the poorer reviews.”

“I've been a member of checkatrade for 6 years now and they have been exerlent polite and very helpful I've got a ten out of ten score rating but today I've just received an email from them saying that a customer called me and I declined the job that they wanted done and the customer wants to leave a bad review score of five out of ten HOW CAN THIS BE CORRECT BECAUSE IF I HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN TO THIS PERSONS HOUSE HOW CAN THEY EVEN LEAVE A REVIEW ABOUT ME SURELY ITS UP TO ME TO DECIDE TO DECLINE OR EXEPT WHATEVER JOBS I TAKE ON I'm going to call checkatrade tomorrow morning to get this resolved if they decide to leave this persons review on my website im definitely going to leave them if checkatrade decide to find in my favour then I'll leave another review on this website giving them 5 stars for backing me up ALSO WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANY OTHER TRADES HAVE A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE”

“You did not post my review regarding your member, but this is the type of poor workmanship and paint mess they leave on a newly renovated house! You obviously think this acceptable, as you sent my review to your member to comment on and decided to believe her over a customer!!! She has a contract with us and has been overpaid to value of works completed. She left the site because she was unwilling to discuss and negotiate variations, that were not variations but part of the original contract!! Last time I use your site and I will be posting reviews about checkatrade on any blog or review site that I research! I have been building for over 40 years and Jess Sherry Painting is the worst and messiest painter I have ever experienced.”

“I recently put up a review for their painters and decorators. This review was quite negative but honest, as I have been building for over 40 years and I know good trades from poor trades. Non the less, the painter quoted our decorating works for a fixed sum and was given the go ahead. They left the job unfinished and in a mess although they were paid up to date. Even though it was a fixed price, the painter tried to add many many variations as well, which most were already included within the quote! Checkatrade did not publish my review and then sent the painter a copy of my review! The painter then messaged me, abusing me and calling me a liar etc etc!!! Checkatrade are obviously filtering and covering up bad reviews for some of their members and not publishing the truth!!!”

“Hall Electrics 01903 257919 on Checkatrade, 01903 266611 (unobtainable) on Google. Appointment for today, no show, no call to cancel.... wasted my time. Sick and tired of being let down by companies on your advertising flyer. The term 'no job too small' should add 'unless we get more lucrative offer or can't be bothered out butt to fulfil our promise'!!! You're flyer is a complete waste of time!”

“I have had not even one good experience with the traders i used for paving. and they all had excellent reviews. i made an annonymous review because i was afraid of my safety, trying to make one official, but it's not worthy. You have 600 characters so not worthy it will just sound like a mad statement, not facts. i will never use checktrade again.”

“We used David Richards Property Refurbishments Specialists in May 2021 to replace and make waterproof our bathroom floor, remove and fit a new shower and tile around the shower area. Everyone was very hard working, honest, very considerate and trustworthy. The work carried out was to a high standard and a competitive price. I would totally recommend them to anybody!”

“Checkatrade are not to be trusted at all. They withheld my bad honest review for 12 days; only when I hounded the CEO with complaints did they put my review on, but they then hid it so that when you search for builders you cannot see my review and the overall rating is faked at 10/10. If you particularly search for this builder by company name and go into his actual advert only then is my review showing and the accurate overall score of 6/6, but you would never know this from the search function. The builder threatened me, damaged my property, broke my sink then covered new sink in paint splashes and hung kitchen cupboards in a very shoddy manner, with sides of cupboards extending beyond pelmet bar and different lengths of cupboards. CAB state the builder is guilty of Breach of Contract as he added spurious amounts to the invoice and charged for items not supplied and Checkatrade do not want to know. They ignored all emails from me and I was ignored when asked 4 times for their formal complains procedure. Only by emailing the CEO am I getting some responses but they are all unhelpful like charging me £15 for arbitration or £35 if I am claiming over £1000 in damages.”

“I have been with checkatrade a few years now at the beginning it was ok they make mutipul changes so it makes it harder for the enquiries to get to you ( almost like they control who gets what ) there is no support for the tradesmen. i was unevaluable to do a job told the customer i knew another electrician they used another company and left me a bad review, checkatrade said it would remain there as ii recommended them my monthly costs have gone from 75 a month to 360 a month and im now receiving less enquiries (less than half for triple the cost ) I would recommend not wasting your time and money they have gone south since home serve took them over.”

“They spam websites such as linkedin promoting jobs that dont exist. When our business joined checkatrade they basically promised to “manage” any negative reviews so only positive reviews would be seen Total scam”

“Brings in a decent amount of work, how ever it has the potential to ruin your business as checkatrade will post reviews from customers that are false and untrue. They don't look after you even though your paying there wages . If you want want your reputation put at risk then checkatrade is for you”

“Poor customer service. Provided concrete evidence towards a false statement/review a customer left with property manager also providing proof that there was no error from my side yet Checkatrade didn’t do anything about it. Had no calls or Enqueires in few months since that review so why pay nearly 90£ a month.”

“Wouldn't use any traders check a trade recommend again. Pressurised into paying invoice day work completed ask to pay into personal bank account on checking further company not listed in companies house. Seems they take anyone on who pays a fee. Work completed but with lots of snagging wouldn't want to complain to trader for fear of retribution.”

“The builder i used had 5 star reviews. He was a gypo. His work was apauling. He left a mess of building materials all over the outside of the house. It was left in a dangerous condition with sharp edges on the metal he cut. He actually put self levelling compount on a door step. He wanted half the money up front, bank transfered to a personal account not the business name. I dare not complain to him for fear of reprisals. I'll never trust check a trade again.”
