“I posted a review on Checkatrade.com concerning a heating engineering company who had been sent to my home by my insurance company to investigate a fault with my boiler. To summarise, the engineer had deliberately deceived the insurance company by telling them by boiler had failed due to sludge and limescale in the system. This was proved to be false, I provided evidence from another heating company to my insurance company and they agreed to pay for the repair. I put a review on Checkatrade to warn others so I provided same evidence to Checkatrade and they agreed to publish the review. To my amazement the review they posted started with exactly the same words I had used but went on to state that the heating engineer had fixed my boiler and done a service- all of which is completely untrue. They had doctored my review to make it look positive even giving them a score of 10. When I spoke with Checkatrade they lied to me and said it was another review from a different person- completely false. I will never use Checkatrade again.”

“After 5 years and with 130 reviews all with ten out of ten scores for my reviews my bathroom website is listed on page 21 in my area so it means that when someone searches for a bathroom installation in my area they will see 210 people before me with less reviews and a lower score HOW CAN THIS BE RIGHT when I joined they said the more reviews you have with the best score then you should be always found in your area they are saying that the new algorithms system is to help new members get a fair share of the work so as JO BLOG'S IS TOTALLY USELESS WITH LOW SCORES AS LONG AS HE PAYS CHECKATRADE ITS SOD OFF LONG STANDING MEMBERS DOWN THE LIST YOU GO”

“After many years using checkatrade with excellent customer reviews we went from page one to page 7 because they changed the review process. No leads received since. They also stopped using review cards saving them a fortune in postage but still increased annual fees. Have now cancelled my membership”

“If I could put zero I would. Absolutely shocking stressful experience from my business point of view. I tried the free trial to see how I felt about the situation. I got my page up and running. 30 customers or so left me reviews and I felt that it could work. How wrong I was. The reviews were customers I’d previously done work for and helped build my initial platform. Over 90% of the enquiries I received from checkatrades users weren’t even either 1) in my area or 2) what I actually do for a business. Sometimes even both. I’m a window company in derby and I got asked to fit a kitchen in Surrey. I stressed this to checkatrade and asked to be taken off the website completely and cancel. This was in December. Come January I was still receiving time wasting and consuming leads. But I followed them up to explain I don’t work in their area. Then to be asked if I can recommend anyone. I then realised not only am I not getting work but found myself as an unpaid member of staff for checkatrade. Tried to cancel again but yet again I was kept on the website. Finally I’m now ‘blinded’ from their site, however not off it completely. I’ve asked for this for 2 months now. I’m 100% positive they shouldn’t be retaining my information after I’ve asked to leave them. After over a dozen phone calls I’m still no further with this. Plus they want me to pay for a subscription I’m not using not want. The whole experience has cost me 100s of hours to date with little return. Very stressful and I certainly won’t recommend them to any trade. They refused to let me speak to a manager, keep getting fobbed off. I see so many annoyed customers on their. I can now see why. Stay well clear and save your time.”

“, I explained that I never wanted to pay anything until I saw the service was worth it. I gave them a the 30 day notice that I didn’t want to be charged and yet I still did get charged£150 for a months subscription. I have spoken to checkatrade about this issue and they promised a reply on multiple occasions but I never got one. After calling them 3 times I got my response that I wouldn’t get my money back as there are notes to the contrary I never got one job from checkatrade Checkatrade have changed reasons for why I was charged. Multiple times I feel cheated.”

“Offered 2 months free trail they messed that up offered another 2 months free trail cancelled with them still sent invoice which was not what was agreed by ourselves and agent still chasing for payments but will not send any emails just random phone calls when we have requested calls at certain times do not use this company as they say they can do everything for you but all you get are sales calls offering deals we had to block the numbers it seems that one department does not know what the other are doing no communication poor handling of complaints just want your money had to give them one star to leave review it should be minus one star”

“Checkatrade gave us three months free trial and then invoiced us after 3 weeks, when queried we were told there is no free trial, not one single enquiry from these shysters and £114.99 to cancel the free membership - avoid like the plague - when they said you have no reviews listed, we said how can we get reviews when you don't provide any leads - they said take some from other places and put them up on your profile page - what a bunch of conmen”

“Absolute scammers your looking on indeed for work in my case as a bricklayer and come across a ad for a job. Then ring it up sign up for 2 months free membership then I cancel in the first month but then I've got to pay a cancellation fee of £100 plus vat Absolute scam. For 1 they shouldn't even be on indeed.com and then 2 in hard enough times as it is you have to pay £120 to cancel a membership what's free for 2 months surely what there doing is a illegal”

“Great when you first sign up!! (Shock...) nothing but leads in the 1st few months and then suddenly hardly anything. When I called to complain I had no calls through they say we can see you’ve been contacted twice this week when I blatantly haven’t absolute rubbish and I find myself on page 4 of local listings even though have a score of 9.8!”

“DO NOT SIGN UP!! Checkatrade have brought in a new algorithm that put me on the 5th page on my own postcode so my next-door neighbour would be given details of a plumber 30 miles away. Used to be worth it but not anymore they have got greedy and want to spread the leads to thin to gain more monthly subscriptions.”

“Reviews disappearing on page,not that it really matters now, But i rang up today about this and my customer who owns a couple of properties Wrote the wrong postcode, so without talking to him it was just taken off + have noticed others now, just waiting for the same genetic reply 😄”

“Plumber charged me £20 for a bottle of drain unblocker, claiming you could only buy it trade from a plumbing merchants. Found it in Tesco - £4 for the same product. Rip off. Will never use them again.”

“Was a member of Checkatrade for years, It worked for first 4-5 years, but now it doesn’t, they treat there old members like rubbish. it’s a company that has got worse year after year. I decided to leave this month, as they now have brought in a system where you spend 5 days out of 7 on like page 20 in your area even with up to date reviews and good ratings etc. I would of recommend them to anyone a few years back but now I would advise avoid at all costs.”

“Don't waste your time once you join and change your mind a couple of days later you will have to pay over £100. What ever they tell you don't forget the vat on top. They call me every day about 3 times off mobile numbers with silly music playing”
