“Don't bother tradesmen,since they've been taken over by homeserve they are useless...was with them for 7 years had 315 mostly 10/10 reviews then did a job for a customer from hell,the lying tw*t gave me a negative review because I walked off the job (she didn't stop moaning from the off) Sandra from checkatrade reviews team backed the liar 100%....save your hard earned money don't give it to checkatrade”

“Have been a trade customer of checkatrade since 2001 in early days was in 7/8 brochures so over the years have spent 10 of thousands pounds am now retiring contacted checkatrade said hanging up my tools, so after all my years off being a loyal customer they informed me got to carry on paying my fees till my Contract ends which is over £500. If you consider joining checkatrade at the end they will shaft you.”

“2nd experience with a shoddy trader off Checkatrade. Published review online for minimum number of stars - had to go to extensive lengths to prove the case as prior instance of poor Checkatrade was rejected as having insufficient proof. No refund, and software inexplicably ignored review in calculating the average review points, nor was it published as most recent review. It's important to know what checkatrade is & what it is not. It is a directory of traders who pay at least £100 per month to be listed. That is the business & those are the primary customers of the business. The reviews & end customer are secondary to that. In discussing with the agent they accepted the reality of phoney 10/10 reviews that are short & meaningless distorting the average ratings - often following blizzard like negative ratings that checkatrade accepts. Agent also noted the reality of the published pushback from traders when criticised was largely meaningless - they are the customers and allowed to publish in my case absurd pushback for shoddy service. Next time you use Checkatrade put the positive reviews to one side & note the negative, these are far more likely to be real than the positive reviews. Endless lists of 9.5* traders is not realistic - but a 7.5* average which people would normally accept makes you look like a basket case. So all the reviews need to be treated as the far less valuable currency than the site purports to set out. Don't be naive about what Checkatrade is - it is protect a trader who pays his subs first, it is Check a trader as a distant second. Caveat emptor.”

“hi tried to join checkatrade advised them on moving they could not verify me as my address was different ( i did tell l them about this on first call) 17 days later they asked me to send address on my bank mobile app then told me no good. 18 days wasted when they should have told me there system would tolerate a change of address. no stars”

“Peter Miles painter from Hilsea Portsmouth. Did a shoddy quick paint job on the outside of our property. Didn't like the fact he had to do a third coat on the new render and didn't even know it was to be applied on new render. So much for a professional. Was told it would take two days by the boss. Mr Miles did a quick paint job and even moaned when I asked for a third coat of paint. In was so angry that he did another coat under the supervision of my partner. All in all the work with all the hours where he kept vanishing on the job added upnto a days work . Charged 650 pounds with paint unfinished and on facia . Would never recommend this guy .”

“Having took the jump and becoming self employed in January 2021, I signed up for Checkatrade which had a 3 month trial period. Within this period, no calls came through and on investigation, it was discovered that when a customer clicked on my number on the website, it wasn’t being linked to my phone and hence no calls received. Checkatrade apologised and despite potentially losing £1000’s worth of work in that 3 months, they could only offer me another 3 months free trial and a chance to go in their physical directory (which turned out to be a complete waste of time). Once the glitch has been fixed, I began receiving calls which was great. Unknowingly however, this time it was the direct debit that weren’t working. Having gone unnoticed for 4 months, I received a call from checkatrade demanding I pay the £650 worth of unpaid invoices, and despite my challenge that this is the second time in only 6 months the platform has fooled me around, they were adamant that every single Penny had to be paid. This left a bitter taste in my mouth and so, I decided to leave the platform and the £650 I had to pay has lead me to once again return to full time employment (as I almost had to do within the first 3 months of being self employed - all because of their glitches and lack of attention). If I do decide to give self employed another crack, I will certainly not be signing up for checkatrade and will look at other directories who are a bit more personable to small, new business.”

“Poor response to queries. Do not resolve issues. Charge a lot of money and the accounts department can't sort No account support, just take your money each month with no review of the account. Very disappointed in the service”

“We left a polite and informative negative review about a trader who provided a very poor service. The website confirmed my review had been received and would be published. Soon after, an email from checkatrade stated: "thank you for confirming you do not wish to have your review published". Out of curiosity, I looked at the 168 reviews for this particular trader, and not a single one was negative. I read through a number of reviews on trustpilot and here on googlereviews, and it is clear that legitimate negative reviews are not published by checkatrade. I cannot trust checkatrade and do not recommend using them.”

“Checkatrade so called 'Traders' do not reply. Most of the trades in my area are working for Wickes or similar, assembling flat pack furniture. Any professional trader would always reply to a quote request. Poorly trained cowboys don't.”

“WARNING FOR THE PUBLIC DO NOT INGORE!!! We got a builder on Checkatrade website in 2013 called APF Builders trading in Mitcham (Paul Jones and Peter Fleckney we’re the builders names they quoted us £37,000 for a single ground floor extension I was building for my elderly mother with disabilities. The builders keep on asking for cash payments and making so many excuses about why they need money for my build which was complete lies!!! I came to find out. In total the builders ripped me off and took £25,000 in cash and ran!!!! We trusted them as they were on CHECKA TRADE!! Check a trade advertise builders you can trust and are vetted absolute b***s*** Check a trade are not to be trusted whatsoever they didn’t even gave no care or consideration for us when contacted. CHECK A TRADE IS FULL OF COWBOY BUILDERS AND THEIFS!!! POSING AS TRUST WORTHY BUILDERS!! STAY AWAY YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!”

“We are a company registered on Check a Trade and what we have found recently is that Check a Trade are not getting enough reviews hence why they are slipping down on their position on Google. Now, they have fallen into an all time low by sending out to Tradesmen fake negative reviews that they themselves have made up. Also, they allow anyone to put anything on, whether it was from a real customer or not. We had one sent to us at the end of last week. We did not do any work for that person. Check a Trade still published it because they want us to go and get more reviews to pop their website up. This is a very sad practice that they have now taken on because of ratings and greed of money. The staff are quite arrogant and condescending as well. As a customer of Check a Trade we can confirm this. Think twice about joining them.”

“Absolutely SHOCKING. I was missold membership. I was GUARENTEED an average of 4 calls per month. I have so far received ZERO. When I complained they simply said I cannot cancel and I'm committed to a 12 month contract and I have to pay £40 per month till the end of 12 months. I now have requested the recording of the sales call and will have to waste my time going to the Ombudsman to get me out of the contract (even though they have breached this contract) They promise you the world and deliver nothing!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS”

“Today I had my carpets cleaned by a company called Valet. Paul was really friendly and nothing was a problem for him. Would I use this company again? Absolutely!! The carpets smell fresh, really clean and absolutely painless. This is the firm for me in future, excellent.”

“Well here I am again just letting other members of checkatrade know what happened about my complaint from someone that called me and I declined to do the job and that someone left me a score of 1 on my checkatrade profile so I sent a email to CEO Mike Fairman of checkatrade and also checkatrade complaints team but never got a response back from either so I've cancelled account with them which they have accepted by email also the 6 other tradesmen that I recommended to advertise on checkatrade over the last few years were thinking about leaving already because of the price increases so as a full team of exerlent tradesmen we are all going to join trustatrader WHAT A SHAME THAT CHECKATRADE DOESN'T LISTEN TO 5 YEARS +MEMBERS SO 7 MEMBERS LEAVING THAT PAY ABOUT 2 GRAND EVERY YEAR THAT IS A LOT OF MONEY TO LOSE WAKEY WAKEY MIKE FAIRMAN SORT YOUR TEAM OUT”
