“Useless site, 2/3 of the tradesmen it suggested turned the job down which is fair enough but when the email saying so offered to look for more tradesmen it just messaged the same 3 companies again....”

“One of the worst! Directories full of diy people who claim to be professionals Checkatrade refusing to display the addresses if the builders. Fake positive reviews, unpublished negative reviews. Unhelpful when elderly people encountered serious problems with their traders. Obviously must be greasing the paws of some politicians as complaints against them going nowhere.”

“I was a trade member last year and after few months I decided to cancel my membership, I contacted them via email and phone call requested to cancel my membership but they would not cancel, they offered me 2 months free with a vision to review it after then I didn't hear from them so I assumed is done After 1 year they instructed a scam solicitor with terrible reviews to ask for outstanding balance When I contacted them they claimed I should have called them again after 2 months to ask again to cancel the membership They clearly use manipulative ways to trick people by offering 2 months free membership to ignore they cancellation request I noticed they intention when I joined that they tried very hard to make me commit to yearly membership instead of monthly They only work by calls to avoid emails or letters so there is no proof evidence of they bad intentions I will advise everyone to avoid them if you don't want head ache I wish I took others advice”

“I am a consumer and checkatrade is a farce! Encountered so many problems with their traders. One of them came to replace some roof tiles and in the same time decided to concrete my roof verges that collapsed few weeks later. Another recently cleaned my roof and managed to break 7 tiles then lied about it. When I asked checkatrade about their guarantee was told 'it depends' depends on what? My negative reviews not published, I had to take to court the bad roofer and looks like it be the same for the roof cleaners!”

“Been a member for over 15 years , they seem to just take on anybody. Recently , after having solid reviews over 450 they thought it was fair to let a customer who we haven’t worked for and only gave a quote and got in contact with , leave a review without any proof they actually asked us a question . They refuse to take it down even though we had been in touch with this person and apparently they asked another question after we visited but we never received anything , they have no proof from the person and yet they think that’s acceptable . Now who doesn’t have proof when they complain ???? The lady Shannon in the checkatrade senior reviews team , keeps avoiding my questions about giving us the required complaints procedure and where we direct our solicitors letter for defamation of character . Thanks for 15 years of being one of your real tradesman fully qualified with legit reviews you can’t fake for that duration and treating us in this way . Note- I agree that clients should be able to complain and give feedback but not when they have no proof and it’s just malicious content , and the so called person doesn’t have a shred of evidence that they contacted us . What’s odd , is that we turned up , gave a quote , but when she sent a question that never was received after we had been out to see the client , she leaves a review , when most people would think , well they’ve given me a quote and contacted us (we have email proof ) but yet I asked an invisible question, I tried no other means of communication and didn’t even get you from checkatrade but I’ll track you down and leave a complaint . Absolute joke”

“I enlisted the services of a conservatory specialist who is currently rated 9+/10 to 10/10 on the checkatrade website. The work was so poor, I’m unable to use my upstairs bathroom as when the South American cowboy builder replaced my conservatory roof, he, by his own admission, left the 45 degree pvc elbow termination off. He was happy for mine and my neighbour’s gardens to flood every time my household use the bathroom. This work was carried out in December 2021. On Friday 4 January 2022, Dyno Rod were called out as when this builder replaced the guttering as part of the roof replacement, he failed to screw down the external bathroom pipe which flew into my neighbour’s garden narrowly missing the dog during the gusty weather a day earlier. Dyno rod deemed his work as poor at best. Builder also attempted to charge extra for the guttering work until I pointed out that guttering was included in the quote. Dyno rod took pictures as very shocked and will be quoting to put it right. Damp has developed on the bathroom wall as a result of these South Americans shoddy work yet they are rated excellent on checkatrade.”

“I am currently in the middle of a renovation and have used CheckATrade's website in order to find tradesmen. Like alot of consumers out there, I assumed that membership with CheckATrade was my guarantee for high quality work and competence. Unfortunately, I was very mistaken. I have had problems with two of their members, both of whom have carried out work that requires correction in my property. CheckATrade have had the opportunity to refund me £1000 towards correcting the work of each of the two traders as a good will gesture but haven't. Their refund policy is very strict and regardless of the evidence I've provided, they rely on external forces (ie consumer reviews and ADR/court proceedings taken against their members) to pan out how they should proceed. This is tremendously disappointing and disempowering for any consumer who encounters problems with their members. As a consumer, I was fobbed off with the advice to either take one of their members who owes me over £10000 through a lengthy ADR procedure or sue him (which is an extremely costly method of action). They claimed if the trader doesn't refund me, it's to my advantage (?!!) because his membership will be revoked. It shouldn't come as a surprise to read that they were very quick to email me as soon as the trader, for whom I'd left a factual review on their website, requested I take it down as it didn't look good for his reputation or theirs. CheckATrade should be liable for introducing the consumer to their members and yet their terms and conditions help dodge liability (such as only refunding up to £1000 for poor quality work completed by their members, provided you meet their strict criteria). I'd like to score them a zero, but unfortunately due to the way this site is set up, I cannot. Consumer BEWARE, you may not be looked after when you use this company. Also, please see the last paragraph of my review on TrustPilot, as it proves my point about CheckATrade.”

“We have recently had work done to our roof by TJ Welch of Brigg, Lincolnshire. Mr Welch and his son arrived promptly. They worked continuously until the work was done and were very pleasant to us when explaining the problem and how they would put it right. We were happy with the price and would certainly use them again and recommend them. Christine Wall. Market Rasen.”

“I used to be a member of Checkatrade for 11 years,as a trader doing wall and floor tiling, It worked for first years, last 3 years are whorse, they just want your many, last year absolutely dead, no phone calls for work, nothing, I was complaining I don’t recommend Checkatrade to any trader,”

“As a member of checkatrade for over 5 years I feel its totally unacceptable that someone can post a review on a members page when the member has not done any work for them when I first started advertising on checkatrade this was not allowed personally I think that its because they need to sign up new members and are trying to lower the scores of the top traders to give new members a chance”

“Used one of their listed gutter, soffit, facia companies who couldn’t fix a leak on a new gutter they installed. Came back three times and it still leaks! Made a complaint to Checkatrade but they are only interested in new business. They are completely useless and disinterested if one of their members workmanship fails to satisfy otherwise I wouldn’t be writing this. Checkatrade status counts for nothing when things go wrong. You only have to read this review site to get the truth about Checkatrade.”

“Do Not signed up with this company!! They are doing the same thing to everyone and I am sorry I signed up and not read all the reviews They give you 3 months free of charge subscription and when you try to cancel it, they are saying you have entered in a year subscription and means that you pay for the rest of the year I would happily pay...BUT..no phone calls ,no new customers in 3 months, no gains..waste of time and money They are giving you 3 months free..in this time you get no clients whatsoever, then they give one more month free. This free month means you are actually liable to pay for the rest of the year. Impostors and fraudsters!!”

“Do not use this company as a Tradesperson. They will advertise a trial period, take your details and without consent they will have you paying £1700. What's worse is that if you're a new business, you will struggle to get work as you are up against others companies in a list form who already have multiple reviews.”

“I’ve already wrote a review thinking the honest way was going forwards but you have not aired it . These were the worst builders I’ve seen in my life make cowboys look good FFBuild owner Voldmyr Filliack we now have to ick up the pieces at our expense we have informed trade and standard s . The Council inspector will not pass th e work major issues outside and Shan inside but hence check a trade are not much help at moment they must encourage these clowns that impersonate builders absolutely disgusting rip off Britain thanks for nothing”

“Sandra working for the reviews team.Rudest,most unhelpful person I have ever dealt with.Anyone could see that the person who wrote a negative review about my company was lying through their back teeth! But not this Sandra,I had 314 mostly 10/10 reviews but the one lying customer,tarnished my reputation & after paying £1500 a year membership you would think this Sandra was paid to help you! Checkatrade & Sandra are good together,absolutely useless company”
