“Checkatrade are absolute criminals. I am furious with them. They lie through their teeth on sales calls and then when you are signed up to a 12 month contract they show their true colours. They will tell you on a sales call they they are there to help every step of your journey, my experience has been that they have consistently worked against me. 1. They have advisors who make “suggestions” on your profile to get the most amount of work..however they cannot spell, or write sentences that reads properly l, or listen when you disagree with advice. I had a profile that literally looked like a 5 year old had written it before noticing several months later. 2. They have tried to take too much money numerous times, so I’ve had to cancel the dd. 3. A review disappeared off my profile and I noticed by chance that my overall score and number of review was inaccurate. The review happened to be a 10/10. I have called and they don’t know why, promised to call back twice but haven’t, it is still inaccurate now. This I ta a breach of agreement. 4. The website and app are so badly maintained that it literally takes hours to upload photos from each job. Each photo uploads the wrong way around and you can only turn it 90 degrees at a time. Each turn takes about 20 seconds to load. After about it on 3 turns the app crashes and you have to restart the app. In the phone they just say “we know about it so it’s ok” 5 on a sales call you will be promised 3 Calls or messages a month on average. This is a lie. The three messages (or sales calls) are generically sent to every trader in the area, when a customer makes a general enquiry for anybody to respond to. I’m about to seek legal advice over Checkatrade. They are in breach of their agreement and simply couldn’t care less. They have literally pulled my reputation down with incorrect stats when I’m paying them to help! Avoid like the plague!!”

“Shambles of a company was registered for 3 years they hold you to ransom when got lots reviews put up your membership fee up every year customer service shocking complete idiots have now left them and put my money into Google AdWords full of fake reviews avoid this company like the plague”

“Checkatrade is where cowboys that can't get recommended by customers go. The company is on the side of the trader, as they are the paying customer, and complaints go round in circles and rarely result in resolution for the customer. I've had painting work and a patio from checkatrade traders, and BOTH ripped me off. Go on personal recommendations only. NEVER use checkatrade.”

“Very bad service. All about there image , Don’t be fooled into joining if your a tradesman. Have not received any job leads in months . When I brought this up , they said if you don’t like it then leave . Con artists”

“An absolute joke of a company, was mis sold a contract from them, cancellation is impossible. Have placed a block on their direct debits via my bank as they're a con company who think I have the time and energy to call them MONTHLY to put my account on hold, every month I must renew the hold on my account or else.... ( like today ) the account renews and you get billed another £129 or whatever they signed you with. Its true, VERY friendly when signing you on, once they do... impossible to get a hold of.. fact when I needed to speak to then I instantly got through on the ' new client ' number... existing client ?!? Doesn't exist.”

“Very good at communicating with you when they are trying to sign you up, once you pay nad gwt tied into the contract don't even bother trying to contact customer services. Takes days to get a reply. Wrote me an advert for their leaflet drop, think a child wrote it. Made my company sound like we couldn't be bothered. Won't be renewing my contract when it's up.”

“We purchased an existing company but Checkatrade would not allow us to transfer the existing advertisement, we were told we would have to start a new one. Needless to say we wont be using them. Trustatrader are way more consumer friendly. Also found the female member of staff we spoke with to be very unprofessional hence has lost her company a customer.”

“It's not the traders that need to be vetted, its the people sat at the desks at Checkatrade, amateur, unprofessional and utterly incompetent. Give them a call and wait for their repetitive emails and calls, they will even send you and invoice in a few hours and a direct debit mandate, before they have even completed the onboarding process, cash struck business springs to mind.”

“What went wrong... this is 100% truthful, greed comes to mind. Checkatrade lies to their members, you can buy postcodes which seriously hurts the local traders but it all boils down to checkatrade making more money . No cap on how many traders they take on for Areas. They have shocking company's that have bad reviews yet they don't see them as complaints so keeps them on which is nothing from what I was told. I strongly recommend people stay away from checkatrade if you're thinking of becoming a member.”

“This is essentially an advertising site for trade with no consumer in mind. We had tried to post a negative review for one of tradespeople we found via the service who had a rating of 9+. The tradesman being the liar that he was in all of our dealings with him obviously denied ever doing the job. Despite providing an absolute mountain of evidence about the tradesman and the job Checkatrade refused to post our review claiming that they could not match the person with the business when our evidence could not be any clearer - emails showing their Facebook page and logo, bank transfers, text messages, even a picture of the bank card with their bank details. This is purely a website for trade to advertise on since they make money on membership fees, not from the consumer. As a consumer I will never ever rely on this service again and I will make sure that no other friend or family member or their friends or family members does either. Absolutely appalling”

“Terrible, visited by a salesman and offered a free month to see if we would like to carry on with it. 2 weeks in, Checkatrade try to take money by direct debit. We cancel the direct debit and try to get into contact to see what is happening and why our free month isn’t being honoured. We were told they will look into it and get back to us, as it needed investigating as it was a agreed by the salesman in person. Weeks go by and we completely forget about the whole thing. Then we start getting solicitor letters advising we owe Checkatrade over £2,000. Absolute joke! We finally get this escalated and sort it out with Checkatrade’s management team and close our account because of all of the agro and hassle, and for what!? Our advert was up for all of 2 weeks, and they wanted £2,000, I completely understand that this is just protocol but it’s an utterly broken system. A few months have go by and we are now receiving emails that our account is in arrears. Stop contacting us and do something useful with you time!!!”

“Only care about the customers when it’s the trades people that pay for the service! Publish bad reviews without establishing if they are true or not and in one case even 7 months after they received it! Rolling contract and terrible customer service, every attempt to complain gets met with a sales pitch to try and get you to buy more areas. Phone did not ring for weeks despite 10/10 rating. Total waste of money.”

“Damaging to small businesses. Checkatrade are an appalling outfit, they ask big money from traders and deliver nothing. If you are a tradesman and you want to through money away and be contacted by lots of sales people rather than actual customers then Checkatrade is the company for you. If you want to protect and grow your business, steer clear.”

“Checkatrade publish positive reviews without properly checking them, negative reviews are not investigated properly neither they are always to the detriment of the consumer. Checkatrade money is made from traders so why would they truly investigate them? no they actually go to the point in punishing consumers who dare raising their voice. Their ceo Mike whatever does not care somebody else is reading consumers angers. They now tell you they guarantee work of their tradesmen up to 1000 which is untrue as my cctv filmed wrong doing but 4 weeks down checkatrade is not doing about this except trying to intimidate me in anyway they can even via facebook. Unfortunately they are not the only one. We have lost trading standards who no longer interested by consumers.”
