disgusting service don’t bother using them !!!! Had to call out rac due to a tyre blow out as my car is a new car without a spare wheel. Was told they would be with me in half an hour. They sent someone to ely after telling them 5 times we were nowhere near Ely we were in Harlow. After an hour sent someone from peterborough over an hour away from us. After 2 hour wait in a Dangerous spot On an unlit Roundabout under a bridge on a slip road we still hadn’t had anybody come and had to resort to driving it home with a blown tyre. They finally sent someone from Braintree who works at sawbridgeworth and he arrive an hour after we managed to drive home at 5 mile an hour 8-10 miles down a dual carriageway just to get ourselves to safety. Now they won’t even refund d my money so I can take cover with a reliable company. Disgusting service do not use this company Case number of my complaint is UF47476103. Refused a refund!!

I'd like to share my first day as an RAC customer, Having broken down on the 21/12/18 at 1330 on the M25 I and having no cover as I had only brought the car a few weeks before, I chose to call RAC as I believed RAC to be a reliable and trustworthy service that was just as good as the AA, but boy was I wrong. After speaking to an RAC representative I was told it would cost £150 to send out a RAC patrol to try and fix my car, if not a tow truck would be needed to get me and the car to 50 miles from that point, also I would have 12 months free breakdown cover, the RAC representative said it would take no longer than 60 minutes, I happily agreed and paid the £150 fee. After 60 minutes and no RAC patrol I received a call that I did not answer as I was looking at the engine of my car, that number left a message but no information, just background noise so I didn't think anything of it, So after another 20 minutes I called RAC to ask where the RAC patrol was, I was then told that waiting time had increased to 4 hours, not happy with this I asked why am I only now being told this now and especially after paying £150 for the service, I was told the RAC representative should of told me this but failed to, and also leaving no message was another bad example of RAC 's practices, I was told someone would call me back regarding the miss-information that was told.....I never received that call. Eventually after 3 hours more of less a RAC patrol turned up to look at the car, he soon decided that it was un-drivable and would need a tow truck, I agreed and was told it should not be too long, I waited an hour and called RAC for them to tell me that it would take 2 hours and that I should of received a call telling me this...again I never receive that call. After 2 hours I called RAC to ask where the tow truck was, I was told it would take another 45 minutes, after 45 minutes and still no tow truck I called RAC to be told that the tow driver will call me for an update, after 10 minutes he called to say he will be 30 mins. The tow truck arrived at 10pm to load my car and take me home. Now from breaking down at 1:30PM and finally getting my car towed at 10pm is shockingly bad service and completely unacceptable by RAC standards, I believe I was told wrong information just so I paid a fee with no real timings or updates, If I had the truth from the beginning I would of never paid the fee and went with a more reliable service such as the AA. Will never use or trust them again .

Never left a review before but after being a member of the RAC for over 12 years and had only had to use them twice, this second occasion leave me angry, disappointed and disgusted in their service!! Car broken down outside the house over the holiday period and because it was a snapped belt could not be driven with no power steering or brakes so needed recovery to my local garage a mile up the road. Arrangements were made to phone the RAC back and recover the car when my local garage was open again after the holidays. It's been two days now and despite a number of calls to both the RAC and their recovery contractor my car is still sat there waiting to be moved. Been promised many times that someone will be there in 50-60 minutes and even once told they were only 15 minutes up the road, but still didn't turn up after 90 minutes. I've been promised 6 times over the past 2 days that someone is either on there way or will be with me!! I have put a complaint in but just had the usual standard reply saying that they will look into it. One comment in the reply has to be a joke as it reads : "I understand that this experience may have affected your overall impression of RAC. However, I remain confident that should you require our assistance at any point in the future, this will be up to the normal high standards that we pride ourselves on" I have lost complete faith in anything that the RAC tell me on the phone or state in an email. I've paid the RAC £1000's over the years and have had nothing in return except excuses and poor service. Just contacted a small local reliable recovery guy who has arranged with me to collect my car tomorrow and take it a mile up the road for a minute fraction of what I've paid the RAC over the years. Certainly wouldn't recommend them and myself and family members will certainly NOT be renewing any RAC memberships in the future. I do question the word "Royal" in their name as I'm positive it stands for something a little different that we might chuck out in the bin!!

Called them at 3pm on a cold Friday when my car wouldn't start 14 miles from home, only to be told that it would be at least a 5 hour wait. Having read the horror stories online, I made other arrangements. RAC claim 30 minutes on their website! What is the point of their service when they don't come when you need them?

Your engineer come to us and said that we've put in wrong feul. We told him we hadn't. Yet he was very sure. He then practically left us with no choice but to pay 225 pound for feul to be pumped out only to find out the battery had problem and the car just needed to be jump started. Great job RAC whole day wasted and 225 pound down the drain and fill tank of feul.

I had to ring RAC this morning at 6:03 as my car had broken down on a dark road. I was told somebody would be with me between 7:05 and 7:50 I thought ok that’s not to bad, I was in my pj’s ( only take partner to work) freezing cold, full of a cold myself, all alone, I decided to ring them up again at 7:21am to see where about they were, to be told no one had been dispatched to me yet, Luckly I got my car started and I only just made it home before it cut out again, I would never recommend these !! I should have NEVER LEFT the AA !!!

Rac are a waste of money people who have been recovered in a good time should feel lucky. I had a flat tyre on my car and was unable to change it due to a bad wheel brace. Called rac told it would be about an hour. Ok I thought an 1.5 hours later got a call from someone who was given the job but he couldn't get to me for another hour. Ended up getting my father to bring me the tools I needed to do it myself. When I complained I got generic response basically saying sorry but that was it. Judging by the amount of complaints this is not unusual and is making me think how long I would have really waited. Been paying them for 2 years and never used them before. My advise is keep some money aside in case you break down and you can pay for a recovery truck yourself. I'll be doing this and keeping some tools in my car in case anything does happen to me again. There is not much competition for breakdown services so they really don't care.

DONT USE RAC- the first time I used them, took 7 hours to get towed! Then the second time they didn’t even answer and I had to leave my car and walk home in the middle of the night and then the next day they was three hours later then what they had said and right now is the third time and I’ve been waiting for 3 hours and no one has showed up and my car has broken down on a main road which from 2-3 you can’t park there so I’m going to get a ticket! RAC are awful!!

Took over six hours to get to me in August with hot summer dry weather. Took 40 minutes to get through to them. Claimed they were busy , paid £105 for 1 callout disgusting company have made so many cutbacks but still the premiums go up and up you have no chance in the snow, make sure you break down near a nice warm bandb. No point in having rac cover

What has happened to the RAC? I had previously been a member, but when I had a breakdown and agreed to a recovery and new membership I was conned out of £150 and left for 7.5 hours in a service station. When they finally arrived, I was told my car could make it home and didn't need a tow. It juddered and stuttered alarmingly all the way back. Now they won't refund me. When I originally called, there was no mention of how long the maximum wait time could be - but an estimated wait of 2 hours was given. This was pushed back three times, eventually to an unreasonable length of time. I feel this is at best a breach of trust and at worst a breach of contract. Trying to contact the RAC is very difficult - call waiting times for customer services are many minutes (I have just given up on one attempt after half an hour). I have been promised callbacks that haven't happened. Email correspondents have told me that it would be 'unfair to refund me' and then stopped responding. I have asked for information on whether recovery service capacity is reduced on a Sunday relative to typical demand when compared to other days, particularly just outside London. I haven't received any response but I suspect that it is, as originally the RAC was going to send a third-party company to me, until those mechanics clocked off and an RAC van was eventually dispatched. I think the RAC used to have a reputation. Now it seems to be desperately overstretched and willing to take money from beleaguered drivers in exchange for an unacceptable level of service. If you are in any way vulnerable, I would advise that it is not safe to use them because you cannot rely on when they will turn up.

After several years covering myself with RAC I had to call them for a breakdown for the first time. Quoted 2 hours at first, then a further 90 minutes , then a further hour. After nearly 6 hours on a cold wet December night they finally arrived at 1am. Numerous phone calls and difficulty getting through. Some of their operators were understanding whilst others clearly wanted me to shut up and go away when I started complaining and refused to escalate my concerns. Sadly I have only renewed my membership a couple of weeks back but, will not renew again next year. Shocked at how poor they are.

RAC told us they would charge £5 per month to keep our membership ticking over but actually they are charging £37.50 per month. We can’t get hold of them to change this as by the time we finish work, they put us on hold for so long (30 mins plus) that the office closes and they hang up.
