“They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. ;) The course material is very easy to follow and the quizzes do a great job at preparing you for the final exam. One thing that surprised me was that I had read quite a bit of "free" course material online and was prepared to write the test, only to have to go through all the course material again.”

“Great course - I was totally over prepared for the test, but the knowledge will be very useful. I didn't like the slide timers - in most cases it was fine, but it would be nice to have the option to advance any time. I only noticed one error on the slide that shows all the info signs - the top sign says 10 kWh instead of 10 km/h.”

“Recommend that the time allotted to each segment be no longer than it takes to read the information. for persons with boating knowledge, it is very frustrating having to wait for each segment to time out before being allowed to advance to the next segment. I would not recommend your site to others based on this issue alone. Otherwise I found each lesson well presented.”

“I liked that there were interactive video versus just having to read. However there are some details that are really detailed that are attempting to replace common sense and takes up valuable time. Marine licenses should be a separate license than small lake boating license as much material only applies to ocean or Great Lakes.”

“I was very impressed with the content and the easily understood animations and explanations. I really learned a lot and it greatly helped me to pass the exam on the first try. I have one significant criticism though which I think bears adjusting your presentation. And this is not a frivolous concern. All, and I mean ALL, the people depicted were white! And almost all the people depicted driving the boats and doing the significant actions were male! Considering this is 2017 I would have expected BOATsmart to pay attention to this and make your product inclusive. Obviously the message is exclusionary if only white males are shown doing most of the significant activity. For me, it does not matter so much, but for my daughter, who will write the exam in a few years, she will more easily internalize these messages. Please make your product more inclusive to make everyone feel like they should be enjoying boating in Canada!”

Thanks for taking time to leave feedback Tawny. We understand the test can take awhile for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada and NASBLA to ensure students of all reading levels are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. Thanks for sticking with it, and safe boating!
