“l had already bought and studied the book and then there was no option of just going to the exam. l had to go through each section. l didn't think this was necessary. also some of the questions are highly unlikely to be part of the average boaters experiences.”

Hi Nathan - We understand that you may find the 3-hour course lengthy in duration (but that usually means you know your stuff - so congrats, Captain!). However, please understand that the course content and 3-hour timers are a Transport Canada & NASBLA requirement and are consistent across all course providers. This is to allow you the convenience of taking the course from the comfort of home. The timer ensures that you get all of the information you need to successfully pass the Test, without having to sit through an 8-hour, classroom course.

“Learnt a lot of good information. I would recommend this course. After each module there is a quiz. If you fail the quiz you need to go through the whole module again. I would suggest a summary review of the module for one re-quiz attempt and if you fail again then there is a requirement to review the entire module. (If I remember right there are about 7 modules from 30 to 50 minutes long) I needed to take one of the modules over again. Overall a pretty minor issue, the benefit outweighed the negative. I have never been a boater previously so I was amazed by the amount of information provided. It has and will make me a safer boater on the waterways. Lastly, I really enjoyed the on-line experience. “Awesome system, very easy to understand, Extremely fast to do (one day for me) and I passed first try. The ONLY complaint I have is that I should be given the option to do the exam without having to watch all the videos. Since I did all my studying on book, when I was ready for the test, I had to watch all the videos again. Which was annoying personally since I knew all my materials already and its kinda of time consuming, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to review again.”

“I was told that this would take three hours it took me nine hours, so not sure why the discrepancy. I think the course needs to be presented as a full day course.”

“Boat Smart is a very good online learning program to prepare you for your pleasure craft test. It makes you think and the learning aids are very relevant and designed to make you a safe knowledgeable boater. “Some of the questions and /or format of reviewing the whole section if you failed the quiz were off-putting to some people I have talked to. I wanted to learn as much as I could instead of just learning enough to pass so it was not an issue for me.”

“Good learning tool ,lots of subject matter covered....quizzes are a good learning exercises why don't you let us know what we got wrong not just how many ....lets .learn through our mistakes!”

“The timer on each page is set too long! I'd finish reading a page and still had quite a bit of time left to wait before I could move on to the next page leaving me frustrated!”
