I came to get advice about my V850 Epson scanner bought online. I have problems-like many other users- with the medium format holder. The person didn't seem to know anything about the scanner and just said I should contact Epson...(oh sure thanks I didn't think about that before!!!). I hoped for a little more concern with helping me with a product I bought at Calumet. This time was not such a good experience. But in the past, I usually had nice people. Sometimes I wish though they would be more interested or concerned with my needs.

I ordered a Canon EF 35mm f2 IS USM and a Manfrotto tripod on the saturday (30/08) of the most recent bank holiday monday (for pick up at london wardour street branch). Both items were displayed as "in stock" when i As I didn't receive a dispatch notification by wednesday, I called the customer service. I was told that the tripod was already ready for collection but the lens, which was on back-order, would be available in 7-10 days time. I was told I would be emailed once the lens becomes available/in stock. As I live locally, I visited the wardour street branch and asked for their ETA (stock-wise). This was

I asked for a quotation for equipment in May to include everything I need for my videography, including follow focus rig. When I went to pick up the follow focus rig it was only the wheel and gearbox, not the rods to fit it to my tripod. Very disappointing and I didn't buy it from you. I have now ordered what I need from Wex Photography who were able to help. You also MUST make your website more intuitive. It is very clunky and hard to navigate. Sorry, but you let me down this time. Let me know if things change over the next 6 months as my next purchase will be a 1dx and ninja blade. Best Wishes. Mick.

Hello dear distinguished gentlemen, Thank you very much for giving me this opportunity to tell what I was thinking about the service I received almost a week ago. As you may know I did purchase a CANON XC10 camera and several memory cards. All went well till the last moment when the time came to fill up the VAT refund form. One of the stuff did try his best and fill up the form for 3 times believe it or not. And at the end; he did forget to stamp it. Well; it was the end of the day and I thought he was tired. At the airport they did not except it. And I was asked to post it to you or keep it until I come back to UK next time within a year. I did feel happy this will give me another chance to see you guys again! That's all from me at this moment and I wish you all the best. Omer Faruk AKSOY

The advice I received from the guys in Drummond Street was great - there were some items not available in the store but these were sent on quite quickly. So the store is very good. I had to then order a load more gear (as I have set up a new Photography business). Some of the items were listed as out of stock but 'accepting orders'. I expected some delay in these items but I did not expect to have to wait 3 months for the last few items to arrive!! The items arrived in dribs and drabs over that period with the last item arriving only 2 days ago. I do not think that is acceptable these days and would urge anyone ordering something that is out of stock to check when the delivery date will be. Come on Calumet I know you can do better than this. My rating was increased only because of the great advice I received in store.

The camera was delivered quickly, and when I reported a possible fault, it was collected at no charge to me very promptly. I was able to track it back to the Calumet warehouse, but there was no response. It took me four phone calls over a period of several days before a refund was given. I thought that was pretty poor!

The staff in the store are excellent. They could not have been more professional and helpful, particularly Jack and Lesley. However I was not happy that I had to pay in full for the Canon EOS5Dsr when it was not available. This is a considerable outlay for any photographer. I would not expect to pay in full for a new car months in advance! A deposit would have been reasonable.

The staff at Drummond Street were exceedingly helpful and I will want to go back again. Unfortunately I bought a second hand Canon GPS receiver which lacked the usually bundled connecting cables and software. I fried downloading from the website but was unable to find the map utility software. In the end I had to return the gp-e2.

I have mixed feelings about my dealings with this company. I wanted to purchase a substantial lighting kit but pre-sales communication was little short of abysmal and turned my order into a needlessly stressful experience that dragged on unnecessarily. At times I felt that I was doing the company a favour by wanting to buy from them. However, the poor pre-sales was more than rescued by my treatment in the store itself. Given my previous experience I'd fully expected my booked demo not to have made it into the diary and that all my items wouldn't be in stock but I was happily proved wrong on both counts: everybody knew I was coming, I received a perfect one-hour demo in a separate room and yes, miraculously, I walked away with every one of the nine items I required. Would I use Calumet again? Yes, definitely. They're pretty well unique in the marketplace (though for some reason they don't deal with Olympus) and their staff are friendly and knowledgeable - when you get to speak to them, or in the rare event that they reply to an email or call you back.

This time it was fine. On previous occasions I've had to walk out when staff have been chatting on the phone and have totally ignored me, or, when I have asked for something on the phone and asked them to ring back (which they offered to do), they just haven't bothered. I started an account with the predecessors of Calument (Keith Johnson, Pelling, KJP etc) in 1972 and service has deteriorated substantially. Certainly nothing like as good as it was.

Good service! Not much in stock for a large store though.

Great service from the contact centre staff. However I did expect that my order would arrive on the same day and it actually came 2 days apart. The contact centre staff told me it would be despatched as one order so not sure if this was an issue with the store sending me the products.

Camera arrived a day late, which was disappointing as I had stayed in all day to collect it. The box was already opened when i received it, with a big thumb print on the screen, although it was sold as new. Not sure why this was, did someone check it first, or maybe demonstrated in a shop? Service was good except for these points and email was very effective. Price was very good and overall not too bad.

Popped into the shop to buy a a bag choice was fine and so was the price. Service however is very slow and I had to wait for the sales person to complete some sort of transaction on the till before she served me. No apology was made for making me wait and then checkout was again very slow. I suggest investment in new Epos may be a good idea and some service training for staff.

Ordered 2 things on the same day, a backdrop and a cleaning cloth. Both arrived on separate days and the small cloth came in a huge box!

On entering the Glasgow store, we weren't greeted with a hello. We were asked later if we needed help though. On first appearance the store is very tatty and sparse looking in stock and decoration. It wasn't clear exactly where things were so I think more signage is needed for customers who have never been before. On asking some advice on lens specs in stock to buy, the gentleman was helpful but I couldn't help feel like I was a beginner and I didn't know what I was talking about. I felt that when I asked about Canon L lenses I was almost looked upon like "do you realise the cost of these and that they are professional lenses sir?!". At one point, the member of staff dealing with a 'pro photographer'. I say pro, he had a big case with lots of things in it. I can only say he seemed to get more attention and respect. He interjected in our conversation a few times with some advice but again I felt as If I was a lesser photographer in the room. I own a business that specialises in design, photography and videography throughout the UK and have a series of full frame Canon cameras and L lenses for this reason and to be honest I am not sure why I would want to visit the Calumet store again unless it was something I needed quickly. Overall I feel the store and staff in general are very off putting and it needs a breath of fresh air to welcome and keep new custom. To note, I visited the Calumet store when it was in the centre of Glasgow and felt the same then. I took the decision to give the shop a second chance and can only say my thoughts have been confirmed again.

The initial issue I had with my Manfrotto LED bank of lights was quite good after some frustrating calls, Calumet made good their position by sending a motorbike and collecting exchanging the lights. The repeat issue has been somewhat protracted to sort, to avoid issues I paid to parcel and send the lights back as I could see a situation arising where Calumet would call to collect and we would be out. This second return has been somewhat protracted, I do have mails on file apologizing and fortunately I have not needed the lights so the pressure has been off, that said, tomorrow, 17th June I do have an outside evening shoot and would like the lights at hand but as I write, I still don't have them.... Disappointing... Can you find out where they and advise please. Clive Martin, 07714134985
