I paid for a monthly Carfax account, and it worked great for cars coming from individual sellers. However, if I looked at cars from Dealers, all of them offered the service for free. It was nice having the piece of mind knowing the car I was buying had been in an accident or not. It is a scam that they only allow you 5 carfax reports using VIN numbers. Especially when they advertise "Unlimited" searches. All of the private sellers did not display the licence plate number of the vehicles I was interested in, which happens to be the only way to get "Unlimited" searches.

The dealer carfax was useless; AFTER I had purchased the vehicle, I had to pay your price to get a history that included 2 owners and at least 1 accident, for which the PA DMV could give me no information on the extent of damage, etc. I'm not (so far) having any issues, but info like whether the frame(?) was damaged would be helpful.

The vehicle that I paid to get 2 car facts report on was involved in an accident and had $35k worth of damage. The report indicated that the car was accident free. I notified you of these facts some months ago and never was contacted or followed up on. Very poor customer service and a true disservice to those who rely on your information.

I am very disappointed in the information I received from Carfax. I bought a 2010 Volkswagon and found out when I picked up the car the airbag had deployed. I also found out it had been confiscated by the Minneapolis police since the driver had received his 3rd DUI. I also found out it had front end damage. None of this was listed in Carfax. I won't recommend you to others....

I purchased the FIVE CARFAX approx. two months ago for $56.00, used ONE and now have been blocked from getting the remaining amount because my other purchased reviews "Expired". That's BS. VERY DISIPPOINTED because it was not clear that purchased reviews had a very short time limit.

I purchased Carfax and Autocheck at the same time when I was shopping for my next used car in the first quarter of 2015. I found out that some of the cars showed no accident histories on Carfax, has accident histories on Autocheck. Carfax is not doing a good job in reporting accident histories. Luckily I bought two car history checking services to compare, otherwise I could have purchased a used car with an accident history without knowing.

It updates the data so late and has obvious costly mistakes in the reports.

Carfax gives the info you want....however lets look at the ugly side of carfax! No matter what plan you pick carfax gives you 60 days....REALLY!!! Big mistake on my part, i will not use/pay carfax for 60 days at premium rate of what they charge. There should be tiers on days you have depending on what you buy. unlimited purchase should be a year & the 5 should be 6 months.

beware, carfax doesn't always show the accident history and you can find those on auto check report, not the best, and also super expansive, what a great way to make money, good thing that they have refund policy, so if you don't like the report, I strongly suggest you to get your money back

I chose to look up info on my sister's car since I needed to know its value after it was in an accident last september. I bought a one time carfax report. The report showed no information even after 6 months had passed. It was a waste of money and not reliable. It said it had several reports, but it ended up being the 2 dealerships and nothing more. Unreliable for info!

Review: Sure: But I'm sure you will not use it. I applied for the 3 months of car fax, and maybe I did not read the fine print, but when you pay almost $60.00 for three months, you would expect that you would be able to look up more than 5 vin numbers - WHY? Because cars on lots, ((Many) lots do not have a license plate, soooooooooooo the only way you can really know the history is to get it from the vin number. Hey Car Fax, are you really that hard up for money? When a person is looking to not get ripped off, don't help the crook by limiting the car fax. Buyer beware, right? But even in the case of purchasing the car fax vin ability. Is it that costly for you to have more than five numbers looked up in three months??????? Really. Was I satisfied? NO! It kind of gets my goat when I have to take the word of a car dealer that the info which I just received is right- somehow I just do not have that much confidence in car salesmen - but limiting 5 vins, seems to place you on the side of the salesmen. Good thing I am old enough that I should not have to look for another car- if I did, I do not know to whom I would go? Car Fax????????? Maybe - Maybe not! lylesonntag@yahoo.com By the way, I was not going to send this, but either I did not delete this the first time or you sent it to me a second time. Ask once when I am going to give a not so nice report, and I ignore it. Ask twice and I speak my mind.

Because my vehicle's engine gave out, I was looking for a replacement vehicle for my family. When I signed up for the CarFax service, I chose the "Unlimited CarFax Reports. I had hoped to find information on about 20 different vehicles that I was looking at on several different auction sites. What I received from CarFax wasn't worth the $55--NOT AT ALL!!! And, by the time I found out, I was excluded from receiving a refund...excluded because of your rules of not being able to receive a refund simply because I had run 2 or more CarFaxes. I believe that you could have and should have been far more forth-coming! On the Selection for "Unlimited CarFax Reports", it states "Unlimited Reports by U.S. License Plate Valid for 60 Days." This is NOT Enough Information. Your information should have also included far more information that can only be found by clicking on and reviewing all information of the "Customer Agreement". What you do Not State is that you limit CarFaxes by VIN to only 5 but Unlimited by License Plate Information. A lot of good that does!! Many Car Owners would not divulge their license plate information so I couldn't even check their vehicles out. Also, on dozens (yes, literally dozens) of auction websites remove the plates prior to auctioning their vehicles off. If they don't remove them, they fuzz and distort the license plate area so that you cannot see the license plate information. So, how can I use the Unlimited CarFaxes by License Plate Information? I CANNOT!! Your Service WASN'T WORTH ANYTHING TO ME!!! All I could do is run 5 CarFaxes by VIN - NOT VERY UNLIMITED. And, with the distortion of license plates, I could NOT run any CarFaxes by License Plates - the only way you allow UNLIMITED CarFaxes for 60 DAYS!!! Okay - you can certainly see that I AM NOT A SATISFIED CUSTOMER. What could you do? Refund my hard-earned money immediately!! If you do, then you help pave the path of of making it right with this unsatisfied customer. What else should you do? Make the Unlimited CarFaxes to include Unlimited VIN CarFaxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What could you have done? More Easily Inform prospective clients of the challenges and difficulties of running license plates, especially when I couldn't even get the license plate information on virtually any auction site that I went on. There are other things that could also be done to improve your services. Fred Franke ffranke@cox.net 504-782-3337

I tried to use Car Fax and only got on line once. I did not buy the car. I tried to go on line again and never could get on your site. I was supposed to have 3 months service and got only a day or two.

Am seeing the Carfax value diminishing and therefore also it's reliability.....with the black market auto shops cosmetically fixing the weather/water/hail/etc. damaged vehicles so well....... from all areas of the country, and the "dealers/sellers" not taking on the responsibility "should" or "if" the vehicle results in a "fixed/reconditioned" car/truck, I'll not be purchasing anything even with the Carfax guarantee and/or report. ""YOU MUST"" somehow.....be it a milliamp reading of each vehicles electrical system to determine "if" corrosion is present, but not enough to detect from on-board systems, something "must be" done right now, or I see Carfax quickly becoming irrelevant. Thanks for listening. Larry
