I chose to look up info on my sister's car since I needed to know its value after it was in an accident last september. I bought a one time carfax report. The report showed no information even after 6 months had passed. It was a waste of money and not reliable. It said it had several reports, but it ended up being the 2 dealerships and nothing more. Unreliable for info!

Review: Sure: But I'm sure you will not use it. I applied for the 3 months of car fax, and maybe I did not read the fine print, but when you pay almost $60.00 for three months, you would expect that you would be able to look up more than 5 vin numbers - WHY? Because cars on lots, ((Many) lots do not have a license plate, soooooooooooo the only way you can really know the history is to get it from the vin number. Hey Car Fax, are you really that hard up for money? When a person is looking to not get ripped off, don't help the crook by limiting the car fax. Buyer beware, right? But even in the case of purchasing the car fax vin ability. Is it that costly for you to have more than five numbers looked up in three months??????? Really. Was I satisfied? NO! It kind of gets my goat when I have to take the word of a car dealer that the info which I just received is right- somehow I just do not have that much confidence in car salesmen - but limiting 5 vins, seems to place you on the side of the salesmen. Good thing I am old enough that I should not have to look for another car- if I did, I do not know to whom I would go? Car Fax????????? Maybe - Maybe not! lylesonntag@yahoo.com By the way, I was not going to send this, but either I did not delete this the first time or you sent it to me a second time. Ask once when I am going to give a not so nice report, and I ignore it. Ask twice and I speak my mind.

Because my vehicle's engine gave out, I was looking for a replacement vehicle for my family. When I signed up for the CarFax service, I chose the "Unlimited CarFax Reports. I had hoped to find information on about 20 different vehicles that I was looking at on several different auction sites. What I received from CarFax wasn't worth the $55--NOT AT ALL!!! And, by the time I found out, I was excluded from receiving a refund...excluded because of your rules of not being able to receive a refund simply because I had run 2 or more CarFaxes. I believe that you could have and should have been far more forth-coming! On the Selection for "Unlimited CarFax Reports", it states "Unlimited Reports by U.S. License Plate Valid for 60 Days." This is NOT Enough Information. Your information should have also included far more information that can only be found by clicking on and reviewing all information of the "Customer Agreement". What you do Not State is that you limit CarFaxes by VIN to only 5 but Unlimited by License Plate Information. A lot of good that does!! Many Car Owners would not divulge their license plate information so I couldn't even check their vehicles out. Also, on dozens (yes, literally dozens) of auction websites remove the plates prior to auctioning their vehicles off. If they don't remove them, they fuzz and distort the license plate area so that you cannot see the license plate information. So, how can I use the Unlimited CarFaxes by License Plate Information? I CANNOT!! Your Service WASN'T WORTH ANYTHING TO ME!!! All I could do is run 5 CarFaxes by VIN - NOT VERY UNLIMITED. And, with the distortion of license plates, I could NOT run any CarFaxes by License Plates - the only way you allow UNLIMITED CarFaxes for 60 DAYS!!! Okay - you can certainly see that I AM NOT A SATISFIED CUSTOMER. What could you do? Refund my hard-earned money immediately!! If you do, then you help pave the path of of making it right with this unsatisfied customer. What else should you do? Make the Unlimited CarFaxes to include Unlimited VIN CarFaxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What could you have done? More Easily Inform prospective clients of the challenges and difficulties of running license plates, especially when I couldn't even get the license plate information on virtually any auction site that I went on. There are other things that could also be done to improve your services. Fred Franke ffranke@cox.net 504-782-3337

I tried to use Car Fax and only got on line once. I did not buy the car. I tried to go on line again and never could get on your site. I was supposed to have 3 months service and got only a day or two.

Am seeing the Carfax value diminishing and therefore also it's reliability.....with the black market auto shops cosmetically fixing the weather/water/hail/etc. damaged vehicles so well....... from all areas of the country, and the "dealers/sellers" not taking on the responsibility "should" or "if" the vehicle results in a "fixed/reconditioned" car/truck, I'll not be purchasing anything even with the Carfax guarantee and/or report. ""YOU MUST"" somehow.....be it a milliamp reading of each vehicles electrical system to determine "if" corrosion is present, but not enough to detect from on-board systems, something "must be" done right now, or I see Carfax quickly becoming irrelevant. Thanks for listening. Larry

I was selling my VW Golf with no accident damage, and CARFAX told me I had structural damage! The car's rear bumper was clipped while parking at Safeway the year previous. The rep I dealt with was very nice and professional, but it took me over a week to get this fixed, and CARFAX provides no phone number on their website. I'm not paying for this dealer tool again!

We came across a great deal on a C4 Corvette. I activated my CARFAX membership but for some reason my password got reset. I tried many ways to reset my password but contact via customer support was the only way to get it reset. I then found out CARFAX only has email customer support. It took several days to have my password reset and I missed out on the opportunity to purchase the car because I could not look up the CARFAX. Two years ago I got a great deal on a Cadillac SRX because CARFAX showed it was AWD and had clean title. Fast forward to 2014 and CARFAX let me down. BTW, In the late 1980s, I actually worked on CARFAX's DEC computer in Columbia, MO when CARFAX's entire data center was in a room the size of a closet.

The only feedback I got was from your sales reps. posing as potential buyers; suggesting that I get a report to publish with my ad.

I was in the market for a pre-owned car and decided to look on Craigslist. Of course I needed validation of what was being represented in the advertisement and knew of Carfax so that was my next logical step. When I went to the Carfax site, I was presented with 3 options, I chose what I thought was the best value with "Unlimited Searches" only to find out that unlimited means 5 VIN number searches and then unlimited if you know the, or the automobile happens to have a, license plate number. (Note to Carfax, not all cars for resale have a license plate.) As it turns out, the car I was interested in was "#6" so I was forced to purchase another search, which the site really doesn't want to do so I had to set up a new account as well. My question: Who makes the Carfax to check on Carfax?

Be VERY careful when purchasing CARFAX. If their system is down, it's your problem. Try to get assistance? Your problem again. We purchased a CARFAX package while looking for 2 vehicles on Craig's List. After a long drive to one vehicle, we could not access our CARFAX account or get any assistance because it was a weekend. Refunds? They've got your money. Proceed with caution!! I'll never use them again.

thought I was getting unlimited Carfax Reports for the more expensive fee. I apparently didn't read the fine print.I am a widow and have promised my 3 granddaughters that I would buy each of them a good used car. I depend on Carfax to help me in finding good dependable cars for them since I don't have a man to check them out. I discovered that I only get 5 real carfax and unlimited checks with their "plates" most dealers remove the "plates" plus cars get new plates when they come from a different state or get vanity plates. Why dont you just give unlimited checks for the fee and be done with it. VERY disapointed.
