CarFax is absolutely essential for anyone who is buying their first ever car. Since the used car market is not 100% transparent, its easy to get tricked into buying a faulty car with hidden defects that does not match your expectation. I'm glad I purchased the CarFax account and was able to check the complete history before making a decision.

I wanted to buy a newer BMW but they were very expensive. I came across a very good deal but I was scapetical and used car fax to check the Vin number history. It turned out the car was partially flooded and with the help of car fax info I was able to lower the price drastically. I fixed the car and I got myself a great beamer for a very low price and very low milage. All thanks to car fax.

On New Years Eve a man ran a stop sign and totaled my car. I needed to buy a replacement and didn't want a car payment. I am a single woman that doesn't know much about buying a used car. I was told to go to CARMAX because they had a return policy but they didn't have anything in my price range. (under $10,000) I searched all the dealerships and was surprised at how high they mark up the used cars. Finally, I started looking at private party sellers on line and found the prices were much lower and I had found dozens of cars in my price range. When the price was too good to believe it was a car with a salvaged title. I found a Hyundia Tiburon SE 2007 with only 31,000 miles in excellent condition $10,000. I went and saw the car and fell in love. Everyone tried to tell me it was too low milage for that age. I ordered a report on the car from a company that said why pay $40.00 for the information when I could get 3 reports from the for $12.99. I ordered the report from them that they claim was just as good. The report showed the mileage at 129 four different dates that the car had been serviced. This made it seem like there was something funny going on with the odometer readings and I almost decided not to buy it. The man seemed so honest but then again a 2007 with only 31,000 miles! I decided to contact CARFAX and pay the higher price report. You get what you pay for in this type of service. The CARFAX report was detailed and showed everything that the car had been done to the car and the dates and mileage were not showing anything that might be suspicious or make me think there was any reason not to buy the car. I am so glad I went and got the CARFAX report because the car is really great and I got lucky to find one with such low miles. When I purchased new tires it was easy to add the information to the history and keep the records up to date. Thank you CARFAX I love my new car and it's worth every penny to get a report from you.

Carfax cost us $9000 in trade in value. We were told by our insurance company and the other responsible party's insurance company that the car was NOT totaled after an accident. However Carfax reported that it was totaled so we lost money on the trade in. We didn't know how to contact anyone at carfax and had no choice but to take it. We're not at all impressed by carfax.

my subscription to carfax recently proved to be invaluable. I was moments from purchasing a used vehicle after 3 months of searching and thanks to CARFAX I discovered the vehicle had the motor replaced and was being misadvertised! the seller was a smooth talking pro - and clearly he was able to fool me! if it had not been for my last minute decision and instinct to run a CARFAX report I could be out tens of thousands of dollars. I was able to discover the vehicle had been bought and sold 9 times, once simply 2 days after it was sold - so clearly the vehicle would have been problematic. I can't thank you guys enough at Carfax. you saved me from making a potentially disastrous

I was looking at a Chevy Suburban. I fell in love with Suburbans when my dad bought his first one when I was 14. Well, the Carfax showed great records with one owner for the vehicle. I knew for sure it was a winner, though, when I saw that the dealership acquired it on my dad's birthday. After purchasing it, I found the original sticker in the glove box just like my dad would have done. And, it is a wonderful vehicle.

This is not that I purchased a car but because of Car Fax i did not purchase ! Found out thru Car Fax that the car has many accidents and was owned by many. The owner did not disclose this and gave the impression that this was not the case. This was not the first time that Car Fax allowed me to avoid a purchase. I will not purchase a car without Car Fax

We were looking to replace my wifes 1993 volvo 940 wagon ( which my 18 year old daughter now drives) and found a 2008 subaru outback for sale by owner. The car was immaculate and the carfax showed 1owner and 1accident. We talked extensively to the owner and found out the mishap occurred right after they purchased it. We had a chance to talk to the repair shop and found out they were very reputable and did quality work. We ended up making an offer on the car below blue book value and now drive that great car. We have used carfax twice since then and have found the information obtained to be very valuable in making used car purchase decisions. Great product with great useful information. I would highly recommend carfax to anyone purchasing a used vehicle. Dan from Detroit.

My boyfriend had found a pre-owned car in another state. He was anxious to drive 8 hours in a snowstorm to pick up the car. Obviously, I expressed my concern in a oh so loving way. :-) He explained that the dealer sent him a car report that showed the car was 'clean.' He did say it wasn't a carfax report. We hung up the phone at odds. A few minutes later he called me back to say that he made one of the best decisions $40 could buy him. He ran a carfax report only to reveal that the dealer's report was incorrect. This car had been in an accident, towed away and then sent off to auction. Needless to say, my boyfriend did not purchase the car. He is now the proud owner of another pre-owned car that he found locally and of course, used carfax once again! So thank you carfax for saving our relationship! You ain't so bad kid! :-)

My son age 19 wanted to buy a 2013 Mustang (in Ohio) from a Craig's List ad (we're in Illinois). After several conversations between my husband, my son and the person who listed the ad, it was agreed that they would all meet in Ohio, cash in hand, to buy the vehicle. Here is where I come in. Ta Da! I asked them if they wanted to do a VIN search to see the activity on the car before going out there. The responses from my husband and son were amazing -- Nah, won't be necessary! I did it anyway (!) and found that the car had been in an accident. They revealed this to the seller who verified the information and reassured us through repair receipts that the accident was minor and would not affect the car's performance.

1. I understood your rate was like $25.00. Your fee was $54.00. You gave me the information regarding if the car was in an accident, not what the price of the car should be. I never bought the car because because it was to big for my garage also she wanted a deposit but not ready to sell for couple of months while she is using the car. This was my first experience with you and I think $54.00 is to much just for one car information.

I am very disappointed in the information I received from Carfax. I bought a 2010 Volkswagon and found out when I picked up the car the airbag had deployed. I also found out it had been confiscated by the Minneapolis police since the driver had received his 3rd DUI. I also found out it had front end damage. None of this was listed in Carfax. I won't recommend you to others....
