The guru, Martyn Lewis said 'Car Insurance prices would be coming down - if not, ask them why.' This year, my DL Car Insurance quote was over £80 more than last year, on contacting them as a long standing 'Loyal' customer (over 20 years), they couldn't reduce the price . . . so much for their loyalty to their customers. I mentioned all the like-for-like quotes from Go Compare, Compare the Market & 2 others all to no avail. Direct Line have now LOST a customer and possibly even more when I tell of my experience to friends & family . . . hang your head in shame Direct Line.

I was insured with Direct Line for years then in January last year the premium skyrocketed and this year they couldn’t even offer any insurance coverage either on line or by phone for my Ford Fiesta!!! Even the man I spoke with at Direct Line couldn’t tell me why! They have the cheek to send me Emails precedingly to insure with them which frankly is a load of garbage as it’s not possible! Direct Line have declined dramatically since the days of Winston Wolf not only in their advertising and marketing also in their in ability to offer insurance at all! They also don’t ask anyone who leaves insuring with Direct Line who goes with a competitor why they’ve left.

I just spoke with an obnoxious guy from direct line van insurance, his name is Taron. Who says I have to pay for my van insurance twice over the last 2months. This is because they didn’t cancel my previous insurance after scrapping my old van, they have insured my new van and have been charging me twice for this privilege. ?????

One of their drivers hit my car and wrote it off. Direct line sent me the full cheque to pay for the vehicle cost. My vehicle was sent to be scrapped so I was going to use the cheque to buy a new one. The second Direct Line found out I had no legal cover, they bounced the cheque and only offered me 1/4 of the initial cheque stating they did not believe they caused all the damage despite me sending my vehicle report from my insurers, my garage invoices and info that I had no insurance claims for my vehicle. They took advantage of me being a young, single mother who cannot afford legal fees to dispute their claim. Because they sent the initial full cheque, my vehicle was scrapped. If I knew they were going to cancel their cheque I would’ve tried to sell my car myself, now I am left without one! Direct Line will do anything to minimise their costs. The experience I have had with them has been very disgusting. I have put in a complaint and still have been told I will only be receiving 1/4 of the payment. DO NOT INSURE WITH THIS COMPANY

Home Insurance NOT....first damaged water pipe in driveway by tree root NOT covered so had to pay £750 myself for repairs. Next was next doors roof slate putting a hole in my flat roof as the owner didn't fix his roof despite me asking for him for some time. Directline deemed there was no evidence of negligence and tripled my premiums to pay for the repair which didn't work and roof is still leaking five years later damaging my timbers. Next doors roof still not repaired but hey there's no evidence the neighbour is negligent!

Direct Line have caused me incredible amounts of stress and led to a big fine and 6 points on my license after a system error caused them to delete my insurance. Following this deletion, they failed to communicate with me that my insurance had been cancelled leaving me without insurance until I was pulled over, totally unaware of what had happened. I’ve been with them 20 years and all I asked for was a letter admitting they’d made a mistake. They refused to do this. I was even happy to waive compensation and free insurance, but they wouldn’t help still. DON’T EVER USE DIRECT LINE - they are a horrible company.

I wrote to these guys for a full refund. They took my money by direct debit then told me they don`t do van insurance. They never replied back to me and have held onto my £600.00 + quid ever since. Absolute robbers. I had to click a star to write a review otherwise I would not give one at all. Then they have the cheek to send me pet insurance offers. Who ever owns this company is bad. Joe from Cannock, Staffordshire.

After years of being a dedicated customer I duscovered I was been charged more than double what I would be if I was a new customer and 10 times what Sainsbury would charge me for home and contents insurance. Absolute rip off. No wonder they're not on comparison sites.

I would give zero stars if possible. For around 8 months of my policy they had the wrong registration plate. Discovered this when the police pulled me for no insurance. You can imagine the shock. I was paying£75 a month for a policy that was for a car that had been scraped years ago (the police told me) Outcome: No refund at all from direct line, they tried everything to avoid refunding me. Total scammers. £300 fine and 6 points from police. I was lucky they didn’t tow my car away. Uber expensive experience with this mob I then got a letter out in October saying I could get refunded for Lockdown. I had 0 Millage at the time of lockdown. They refunded me £3 a month lol absolute joke of a company AVOID

I was a customer of Direct Line car insurance for almost 20 years. I never had any claim during this period and I was a good driver. Last year a guy stopped to let me out of a side road and then he changed his mind and hit me. To cut a long story short we pulled over and then he accused me of pulling out of the junction without looking! He had no damage on his car and only a small scuff. I had no damage on my vehicle either. He called the Police and said I was threatening him???? It was obvious it was a set up and I got blamed for nothing. He subsequently put a claim against me. I told Direct Line what happened and also send photos of his car to prove there was no damage. To this day Direct Line never told me what he claimed for and I had to pay up and I lost my claims bonuses. Direct Line refused to fight for me and treated me like total dirt. I recently found out that they done the same thing to a friend of mine. This company is disgraceful and should be ashamed. Terrible customer service and acknowledgement of receiving emails. They want everything done over the phone and that's impossible when you need to send evidence. I left and joined Co-Op. They offered me cheaper insurance by £450 less and I was left choked by Direct Line for not even matching their quote. Sickening to the stomach. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! BECAUSE YOU END UP PAYING FOR IT. Finally, I just received a letter asking for £11.35 for outstanding payment. I have no idea what this is for and find it disturbing that this company can chase a long term ex customer who's spent over £20k in premiums a measly amount of money.

Just been speaking to the call centre re one of our policies which is due for renewal on the 3 may and i think the operator was lying in bed with his computer off!! Also have another due on the 5 May but never got to discuss!! Only wanted a quote for an additional driver, my son, but became too complicated to deal with. Say no more. Sharon Always been very good but will look elsewhere.
