“I ordered two red Cordylines which not only took nearly three weeks to reach me but were the poorest, pathetic specimens I have ever seen! Half dead leaves (dried up and wizened) so they must have been despatched in that way. For £20 plus postage it’s a joke! Never again!”

“Just had the worst online experience with a company called GARDENINGEXPRESS. The eneacheas I purchased from them have been eaten by a big they delivered to my home in Cheltenham. I also had the same plants delivered to a friend Huddersfield. The same thing happened, the plants got eaten. The only way to can complain is on a chat line. I spent 2 hours yesterday and no one responded and an hour today. I sent photo graphs and they responded by saying they could see nothing detrimental to the plants. They then asked me to dig up the plants and return them. That’s when I blew my top. My advice is never do business with GARDENINGEXPRESS. £50 down the drain!!”

“I bought a fairly expensive magnolia tulip tree from Gardening Express. When I received it, I soaked overnight, planted in good compost and watered regularly. No growth, no sign of buds opening. I contacted Gardening Express who advised that the tree was dormant when received since it had been in cold store. I waited for several weeks for the tree to come into bud as advised, but nothing happened. Contacted gardening express again but was now told the tree was dead, and I couldn’t claim under the warranty as that had to be done within two receipt of the tree. How am I expected to discern within 14 days that a bare root tree that is supposedly dormant is in fact dead? I gave the tree full TLC, planted it in good compost, checked it every day and watered regularly. The warranty is valueless. I shall not be purchasing any more plants from Gardening Express.”

“Received a bare rooted tree which turned out to be a stick and remained a stick. They would do nothing about it. When you look at their reviews there are many saying exactly the same thing. Beginning to realise that they are a scam company”

“Items turned up half dead and with about 2 years of moss/algae on top. Described as ‘Pair of Beautiful French Lavender Trees’ - strange business plan, I assume they don’t expect repeat business. Would never use again.”

“I purchased a bare root quince tree for nearly £30 in May. The plant arrived bone dry and looking dead, but the advice sheet said that was normal. And that there was a guarantee as some plants fail. We planted and watered as per instructions, waited a few weeks- nothing. In early July I scraped back some bark as per the instructions and found it dead underneath. I contacted customer services to be told that this plant is exempt from their guarantee and I had had it for too long- BECAUSE WE WERE WAITING FOR IT TO ESTABLISH!!! DO NOT BUY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. We will be applying for charge back via our credit card for faulty goods”

The online chat has a wait of around 2 hours and all they do is send a scripted reply. No understanding for genuine complaints that could so easily be resolved. I will not be using this site again and wore others to be cautious.”

“I really wished I had read these reviews before. Unfortunately it appears I am not the only one experiencing such dreadful service. The on line chat is a joke. Just tried again, 2 hours wait. I've wasted enough time of my life trying to get in touch with these people. Spent a considerable amount of money with them. Some plants were ok but others just rotted in pots and some I am waiting to see if anything comes of them. Still waiting for last plant to arrive, ordered in May! Recommend them .... you are joking. Wouldn't use them EVER again.”

“Dishonest, deceitful, a total con! Their guarantee is worthless, they do not take phonecalls, they do not answer emails, they ignore complaints. They shouldn't be allowed to trade or steal our money. I ordered a shrub from Gardening Express in Feb 2021, described by them as 'established and bushy'. That was a lie. I got a twig 7" tall with 3 spindly 'branches'. I complained immediately and was told to give it time, it would thrive come spring. It did not thrive, it languished and slowly died. I sent many emails with photos but they ignore them. Their website now states that, for a refund or replacement, they need the dead plant returned, in its original pot(!), with the original label and proof of purchase and at my expense. That is ludicrous and just means the guarantee is useless. I am currently waiting on their chat facility, have been for 42 minutes and the only thing I see is "currently replying in under 2 hours"! My advice is clear: YOU SHOULD NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY.”

“DO NOT BUY, it is a scam, they take your money, make you wait 3-4 weeks then send a pile of rubbish you cannot get a refund from. Go to retailer disputes and raise a dispute for a refund, if enough people complain in this way they will have their merchant credit card facility removed and will not be able to trade.”

“No customer service, plants are nothing like they advertised or described. Half dead tiny sticks of plants arrived along with a plastic bag of roots and no idea of what they are, at £109,00. Disgusting, do not ever buy from this company. No point in trying to return as you can’t talk to anyone.”

“Why has trading standards not shut this company down? They don't care about customer service, they give you the standard phrases that there's nothing they can do and continue false advertising. Their revenue stream is from substandard plants at high prices. Hope they end up in court!”
