I took out insurance with general accident in July 2015 on my first car and made a claim shortly after (oops!), but the way my claim was dealt with was totally and utterly appalling. I was told that if I wanted a courtesy car (which is promised in my policy) I would have to wait two weeks for my car to go in for repair. When I logged a complaint about my experience I was told that this was not the correct procedure and the person handling my claim should have sourced a courtesy car from another company for me to use whilst my claim was being dealt with. In addition to this, I was given conflicting information on about 7 or 8 occasions over the course of a week as to whether my car would be written off or not (the damage wasn't that extensive, it was just the cost of repair and parts) and when it was declared a write off I was also given a number of differing figures regarding the amount I would receive as a payout. If you want to be supported and kept informed by your insurance company in the event of an accident, do NOT use general accident.

I change my car after 3 months and had a nightmare getting hold of a phone number and then they were totally unhelpful and said they were an On-line company only and didn't do anything by phone. Somewhat unusual for an Insurance group. They also took over £60 for cancelling fee so decided I'd go elsewhere - appalling NON service all round. Would never use them again nor recommend them - but advise how bad they are!

I would not insure with anyone on line again I would only want to do it by phone. It is far easer and quicker for me to do by phone. I am hoping I do not have to do so for remainder of the policy.

First year good quote so accepted. Second year, with no claims, the monthly payments doubled. No renewal notice either by email or post. Tried to call not accepted, tried email, no reply. Be careful.

DO NOT USE THIS POLICY!! After the initial 35 day period, general accident becomes non contactable for any query. This is unacceptable as the customer is cut off from its provider. It is also almost impossible to contact them in the event of an incident. This is of course, unacceptable. I am extremely dissapointed with the service provided by general accident and will never ever recommend them to my worst enemy. Deal with it!!
