I lost my wedding ring worth £500 and made a claim through Halifax Insurance but I am deeply unhappy and disappointed with the options and response we received from them. The options Halifax gave us were a £175 cash settlement or a £500 voucher. The voucher is only valid to use in their 'nominated' jeweller- the high street chain Goldsmith's- instead of the our preferred jeweller where we bought the ring originally - an independent business who design and manufacture the jewellery themselves - which is the primary reason we purchased from them. During multiple phone conversations with Halifax we asked for them to state the specific section of our policy that says we will be unable to get a replacement from our jeweller of choice (i.e using a cash settlement) and no one from the company was able to clarify. In our correspondence attached, Halifax also mention they tried to contact us by phone. They only phoned us once to discuss their decision and when we called back the next day they had already sent a letter saying our complaint had been rejected. I have been left with no choice to complain about Halifax's decision and note the Financial Ombudsman Service's ruling that "the option to replace the jewellery is not properly exercised by offering a policy holder an authority to buy jewellery up to an agreed value at a particular jeweller's shop. That is wrong in principle, although it seems to have become hallowed practice. It is in fact, a denial of true indemnity." We would like Halifax to offer us a £500 cash settlement so we can buy an exact replacement from our jeweller of choice, not a substandard version from the company they get a discount from. We would like the value we are entitled to under their policy. Halifax's decision has cost me time appealing their decision, emotional strain and will cost me money if their decision is not overturned. We insured out belongings through Halifax as we thought they were a trustworthy company and expected to receive assistance should any of our items go missing - as that's why we are paying them - instead we got rudeness, unhelpfulness, inadequate customer service and stumbling blocks making it difficult to simply get a replacement item of exact quality. I have now been left without a wedding ring for many months.

Do not recommend this insurance company - they refused to pay for water damage in house as decreed by phone without inspecting the damage that it was due to ‘wear and tear’. Also informed me that no insurance company would pay a claim for damage caused by a leaking pipe which is not correct as claimed 8 years ago for exactly that problem and insurance company paid claim with no difficulties.

Bought the home insurance policy two weeks ago and despite several telephone request for policy documents to be emailed to me, I still haven’t received them! Every time I have spoken to a Halifax customer service representative they have argued with me saying that I only need the policy reference number then reluctantly said they’d email it to me and haven’t done so! Terrrible customer service and doesn’t bode well if I needed to make a claim in the future. I have just spoken to them yet again and been advised that they will email my documents to me. If I’m not in receipt of them within the two hours we agreed to,I’ll be reporting the matter to the financial conduct authority.

We have been with Halifax for nearly thirty years. Month after month, year after year never missing a payment and having no cause to make a claim...but over the last two days rain started dripping in from the living room ceiling and I found Halifax to be TOTALLY useless in every conceivable way. Long story short, they did their level best to avoid helping us in any way. That's fair enough, but as of Monday we are changing who we use to insure our property. Bye bye Halifax. Better cover for half the price than we were paying them. I strongly urge everyone to look elsewhere, shop around 'cos Halifax are rip off merchants.

If you want your premiums to be increased by 20% per annum, even with no claims whatever then this is the company for you, my premium doubled in 4 years, rip off for loyal customers, don't touch!

If I could give your Home Insurance no stars I would My burgulary claim was presented 3 months ago and due to extremely poor customer service ,errors and delays by their jewellery and electrical suppliers I am still no further forward.Halifaxs own claims handlers have also misinterpreted their own policy wording and breached laws.Avoid them at all costs.

I took out a personal policy just a day before my Iphone was stolen - knowing that this isn’t a good look I accepted that there would be a lot of information gathering. It took a few weeks of them requesting a range of documents and evidence but it was eventually settled. Once it was settled I was able to get my replacement phone the next day. I have nothing bad to say about the staff who I dealt with and I am so thankful I went with Halifax in the end. Only a loss of one star as they did on occasion request the same documents multiple times.

I received my £50 cheque for taking out Halifax insurance, but unfortunately it was issued in my incorrect/previous name. I telephoned Halifax to advise them of my new name and change of address. They said they would cancel the cheque and reissue. I waited for the re-issued cheque to arrive but it never did. I telephoned Halifax again and they said that the cheque must have got lost, so they would cancel and re-issue again for the 2nd time. 2 weeks later and I am still waiting. This has been on-going since Feb/March.

Terrible experience. I was a loyal customer (11 years). Never made a claim, and due to letting the insurance roll year on year, I was paying a over the odds for my insurance (my error). I call to advise them that I have had a leak from a radiator which has now damaged my carpet. They offered to sort that no problems but with an excess of £300 combined with a water escape fee of (250) I was estonished that with the amount I was paying, my excess would be so high. I asked them to transfer me to the cancellation team, who immediately looked at my policy reduced the cost, and the excess to £100. I went back to the claim team, to say I was happy to go ahead with the now lowered excess, but apparently, because my claim was submitted before the excess was reduced the £550, would stand. Nice work Halifax, I've left you after 11 years and would recommend that everyone stays clear of them.

Had to call Halifax because I discovered a slow leak in my bathroom I explained looking at the damage the leak has been ongoing. The company then stated due to my description of the leak it started before I was insured by them and to contact my last insurers who also wasn’t interested I have today received a quote from a bathroom company to fix the issue at a cost of £8k

Awful company, the worst of the worst. My wife lost a 9 carat gold and diamond watch. The watch was no longer available new, only second hand. The value of this was set at £595. The policy says "new for old" however the tiny small print says when the product is no longer available they'll only pay out on the second hand value or nearest equivalent. So they have got out of paying new (where can you get a 9 carat diamond watch for £595!!) Its a minimum of £1500 for a new such watch. We've been well and truly stitched up - this will apply to lots of items - whenever these items are no longer made, they'll just offer you peanuts as second hand value not "NEW FOR OLD" at all. Beware and AVOID this company AT ALL COSTS

I tried to make a claim after my roof blew off in high winds. Told I'm not covered as it wasn't windy enough. I telephoned to complain and to request investigation re claim as I'm taking it further. Told customer services would be in touch. 7 days later I telephoned again told would be 7 days again. The service they are giving is atrocious. I will never insure with them again and I will be going to the press.
