I have just read through some of the reviews here and it seems many of people have been in a similar situation... AVOID! My braking score has been on 0 for as long as I have had the black box fitted. I received an email to say they will cancel my insurance if my score does not go above 40... I mentioned to them that my braking score had not gone above 0, apparently this was 'looked into' and nothing flagged up when they investigated it, there reply was 'as the box seems to be working for your acceleration it be working for your braking'. So now, they're charging cancellation fee, no refund on the black box installation, and also another fee which I don't quite understand what it's for, something to do with the time I have been a customer of Hastings Direct SmartMiles. A friend of mine is experiencing a similar thing, although she is being marked for braking but a score of 0 for accelaration. Money grabbing scam!!!

Never have anything to do with this company. The information collected by the box is inconsistent and identified as being incorrect but they do. It have the professionalism to admit there is a fault. It's a ploy to make sure they make extra cash from you, STAY CLEAR

I'd definitely recommend Hastings Direct SmartMiles. After driving safely for a year with the black box fitted my premium is less than half that of the first year in my second.

Hello Hastings. Service was pretty poor I have to say.was quoted ?35 to protect my NCB but when I telephoned to renew that option was no longer available.i requested that a manager call me back within2 days of me renewing but goy no call to date...disgusting service.also you renewed my policy 4 hours ahead of my renewal time and ignored my previous request not to auto renew my policy.and lastly you were un-flexible with my request to remove the curfew measure from my policy.ridiculous that you insurance companies expect 18yr old students to be off the road by 10pm...i have a job that requires me to be working sometimes past 10pm.ridiculous.

Was a little worried when I read all the reviews, just done 3 journeys and scored 100%. I have a Jeep Renegade that as a eco screen for fuel economy , I follow this and it's quite difficult and usually score in the 80s. Your gear changes have to be bang on, acceleration, deacceleration and speed much harder. The poor reviews won't realise how well you have to drive, you have to slowly go up and down your gears and try not to use your breaks, when you do use them gently.

My first car insurance after passing, it was the cheapest with a monthly cost of £140, the box was easy to fit and stayed on 100 for 32 days and now I'm on 97 and it's been 57 days, you just have to be really cautious with speed, will definitely renew if the price is right.

absolute shite, acceleration score has been on 0/100 despite setting off as slowly as i can, please whatever you do pick another company seriously not worth any money even if it is the cheapest policy

Basically I once bought insurance for my daughter as a birthday present. Now Hastings insist on still using my contact details to try and communicate with her. If I try and give them her correct contact details, they charge an admin fee. Numptys

Car insurance policies found to be very competitive for my elderly parents, particularly the premier service, which has a zero excess and includes basic breakdown recovery. Doing it through comparethemarket got the best price and the 2for1 cinema tickets and you never actually know if the topcashback sites will deliver their cashback. Downside - call waiting times to speak to operator were horrendous this week -around an hour to be answered on more than one occasion (but 0800 number so no cost), however I tested the claim line and this was connected immediately.
