• This is an insurance company with no ethics and when it comes to having to deal with claims for damages, the company resorts to all the ploys in the book to wriggle itself out of the responsibility of paying out. From my direct experience with them, L&G tend to treat you with contempt and unfairly, simply because you've had the misfortune of claiming damages from them for the losses covered by your insurance policy. Having experienced such a problem with L&G, I lodged a complaint against them with the Financial Ombudsman, thinking that the Ombudsman’s intervention will help me to get a fair treatment; unfortunately, it has taken the Financial Ombudsman over a year to come up with a rubbish, manipulative assessment of my complaint. The question then arises that where can we get justice in this country if all the systems in place are all established to prevent you from succeeding against the wrongdoings of the likes of L&G, banks, utility companies, telecom Companies and so on.

Instantly renewed - let me know by an email not stating anything about renewal in the title. Also spammed me with nonsense so never checked emails coming from them. Charged me to leave. Waited a year to talk to someone, ultimately will never be using them again and would highly recommend others not doing so.

absolute joke of a service. The online system would not take my payment, so I paid for the renewal over the phone. Little did I know, they took the premium twice! I then remembered the same thing happened last year, and it took a while to get my money back. After speaking to them, they said the refund takes 21 days - absolute joke. Nearly a month later I still wait for the refund, and I never received any confirmation of the renewal - in the post or email. I cannot login into their online system. I WOULD NOT USE THEM EVER EVER AGAIN.

What an awful service, L&G duplicated my policy so I was paying double for it each month and after spending 40 mins waiting for my call to be answered which was costing me money they authorised a refund which has still not come a month later and I have just spent another 20 mins waiting for my call to be answered whilst being charged and have given up I will never use them again..wish I could have scored 0.

Cancelled home insurance within 14 day period. Still haven't got my money back 2 mths later. They don't reply to emails and take forever to answer phone calls. Please don't touch them - dreadful. On the 2 times I have managed to speak with someone they have promised refund is on way yet it never comes. Try to complain but can't get through to complaints department either! Joke.

- My late husband took out his original mortgage decreasing life insurance with Legal and General, through Nationwide, on 21st May 2010. Policy No 013580654-5. This was when we bought our house. - In September 2015 we decided to add me to the policy, so consulted with the Nationwide Building Society who ‘advised’ that the only way of adding me, was to cancel the original policy and start a new policy. We agree to take out the new policy on 3rd October 2015. - It then took Legal and General 6 1/2 months to actually start our new policy. The start date for this was 23rd April 2016. The policies were set to run consectutively so as the new one started the old one ended. There was never any break in premiums. - My late husband commited suicide on 28th March 2017. - Myself and my financial adviser spoke with Nationwide on the 4th April 2017 to explain my situaton and agreed to open a claim based on the positive reassurance from Legal and General and Nationwide. - After much chasing and no further information I finally heard from someone at Legal and General who informed me that under no uncertain terms would they pay out for a suicide in the first year. - Ive sent several letter to Nationwide and Legal and General but both parties deny any culpability and simply passing the blame. We are now 7 months down the line and no closer to getting anything sorted.

Legal and General home insurance are so terrible, I had lots of jewellery stolen from my house in August and since then they have been coming up with every reason possible to delay a payment and saying there were only 4 items when I sent an email 2 days after the burglary detailing all 20 + items. I have to chase them constantly and now have to have a phone call for an hour and a half detailing each piece of jewellery which I have to do when paying for childcare as this phone call would be impossible with my 2 year old around!

My son smashed our window with a football on the 8th of October. It’s a big window and therefore quite expensive so we called L&G immediately to place a claim. As it was a Sunday I was told I’d get a call back the next morning . No call came, so the following afternoon I called them (at least 30 min waiting time every call) and a rude man took the details, said they would get a company Martindale to call about a date to verify claim. I then received a call from martindale saying they couldn’t come out until the following Tuesday the 17th! For a smashed window! Supposedly because we are so far away from where they’re based. This was ridiculous so I called a local company and asked them to quote me on the window. Once they came out and quoted, I spent another 30 mins on hold with L&G asking if they’d accept that validation instead. I was told yes, get them to email it in and that’d be fine. So the local company emailed them and I called Martindale and cancelled their visit. This was Tuesday the 10th. On Thursday the 12th I called L&G to see what was happening to be told they didn’t receive any emails from the local company (which they did as the local company have confirmation emails) but it didn’t matter as Martindale were needed to validate and they can’t use another company. I was nearly in tears explaining I’d cancelled them as I was told we didn’t need them, and now we’d need to wait even longer for someone to validate. I was told to email Martindale pics of the window as well as the local company’s quote and see if they can validate through email instead. I’d supposedly receive a reply that day. I did all that immediately. Today is the 24th Oct. I have had no word from the insurance company or Martindale. I am still left with a smashed window 17 days after initial claim and not one person has been out to even validate this claim yet. Absolute joke of a company. I spent another 30 mins on the phone today to cancel my claim as we can’t go on any longer with a smashed window so we are having to pay it all ourselves, and to put in a complaint. I was told by a lady she’d look into it and call me back to go forward with the complaint. I did not receive a call back.

Reported my break in - still 3 weeks later and they still haven't managed to arrange to have this fixed. On top of this, they never return calls and I am sick of being passed from pillar to post with this diabolical company. Do not insure with them if you want someone who can take action in the event of an emergency. Quick to take the money but when it comes to doing the job they're paid to do, I can only describe them as SHOCKING.

DONT BOTHER!!! WORST COMPANY FOR HOME & life insurance. Cancelled my life insurance as said I had not made payments and said they had sent me letters to let me know the premiums had not been paid! I did not receive one letter about this but they just cancelled my policy leaving me & husband with no life insurance!! It took over a year to sort it out -again many mess ups on their part which they compensated me for 3 times due to their incompetence and admitted fault. When it was all sorted 3 months later I then get the letter that out the blue they have cancelled it!!!!! Please please don't waste your time, money or life on these scum bags for any kind of insurance. Home insurance and life insurance have both been over a year of stress, money and time wasted AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Having been with Legal and General for the past two years I was happy with the cover and price. However, when I tried to renew my policy this year I was unable to speak to anyone despite trying for three days. The automated payment process didn't recognise my "Unique Payment Reference" and it didn't work online either. Therefore I have found a new insurer.
