Whilst going about my job in the Piersfield Terrace area of Edinburgh on Tuesday December 3rd, , I noticed these 2 frail old ladies they must have been in their late 70’s or early 80’s and under 5 feet tall struggle with what looked like 2 oil filled radiators, these things looked heavy and they must have weighed in excess of 15 Kg each, they came out of MACHINE MART and these poor old biddies could hardly lift these things of the ground, they then struggled with great difficulty to lift them up into their car, a hard enough job for a fit and healthy young man. I could see what looked like 2 or 3 guys in the show room window just standing watching these poor old women, they really struggled with these boxes. Shame on you MACHINE MART, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves, disgraceful behaviour and a totally unacceptable level of customer service by MACHINE MART. What’s happened to this country, when men stand and watch old ladies struggle to lift heavy boxes and don’t offer assistance. You guys are probably the same ones who would fail to offer your seat on a bus to an old person or a blind person…. You make me sick….

Machine Mart is a company I have used for many years; since the 1990s at least. But today they lost me (4/11/2018). I am prepared to pay a lot more for the same product- if it means that I will be trusted as a customer, treated with compassion and respect, and valued. The low price is soon forgotten - the lousy customer service isn't. They sold me a power pack and it was faulty the moment it was unboxed. I showed them less than a day later and I was astonished that I could not have my money back. I didn't realise that companies could get away with this for faulty goods - and that you have to wait until it is inspected to get your money. This can take several weeks. What Century is this? Machine Mart. You are in competition in a world that offers immediate refunds to customers buying inferior products. If you don't put a stop to this convoluted returns policy you will soon be nothing but a memory. All is fine if the products are fine - the 5* ratings on here. But your customer service is nothing short of disgraceful. You can't and won't survive. You can't punish decent people for the dishonest actions of a few of your customers. This is what business insurance is for. It's goodbye - and I have spent many £100s since the 1990s.

I will never use this company again. The generator I bought was of poor quality - it didn't work out of the box. Having paid to have it serviced and fixed it still did not work. It was returned in a damaged condition. Customer service was appalling. The website says they go to great lengths to ensure customers are satisfied. This is just not true. Avoid at all costs.

I bought a fuel transfer pump, and the first time I used it, it leaked fuel. I rang their customer service department, and they said to take it back to the shop. I did this, and after many phone calls by the staff, it was swapped for another very reluctantly. I took the second one home, and it was exactly the same. Admittedly, the second had some "O" rings with it, so I was optimistic, but they made no difference. When I returned the second one, they refused to let me have one, until they had inspected it. This was despite the fact that I had already returned one that they could've inspected. I returned home with the unit, and rang my solicitor. I was advised that under the Consumer Rights Act, I was entitled to a full refund "without question". I rang their customer service department again, and explained this to them. They still flatly refused a refund. I have no option now than to make a claim through the small claims court. I have never known a company with such a shocking attitude to their customers, and I will never use any of their products again. Having read through other reviews, it appears that I am not the only one.

wanted to return a trolley jack which failed after only a few uses, took 5 weeks to "repair" and fault was still there upon collection. was told they would just send it off again, rubbish. To make things worse, I was in a queue of people who were all bringing items back. I am going to have to stop buying from this company. I am forever returning faulty goods. it ends up costing me more than paying for better branded , more expensive items. I VOW IN WRITING TODAY THAT I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM MACHINEMART AGAIN!!!

I've had to rate 1star because i did not have the choice of any minus ratings. Where do I start? I bought an sds impact drill to remove old tiles off my kitchen floor. Only LASTED ABOUT ONE HOUR. Returned it to the Gloucester branch who would not give me a refund and said it would be down to the DINOSAURS based at head office whether I get a refund or not. Baring in mind this item is not fit for purpose, the only suggestion the manger had was that it must have been made on a Friday and that i Got unlucky. Thats not the point, I was entitled to a refund. After two weeks of deliberation by the DINOSAURS at head office it was completely broken but I was STILL NOT ENTITLED to a refund but I could have a credit note. I spent nearly an hour driving into Gloucester where I went to claim my credit note against another product I DID NOT WANT TO BUY but was forced to, this was ordered in branch where I paid extra for postage to be posted direct to my home address saving me another hours drive into Gloucester. Nearly a week later I have just received a phone call from the manager of Gloucester stating that the new item has been delivered to branch and could not be home delivered by Bosch and therefore I would need to waste another hour of MY TIME driving into branch, so why did I pay extra for delivery????? I WOULD NOT RECOMEND BUYING ANYTHING FROM MACHINE MART UNLESS YOU ARE RETIRED AND HAVE PLENTY OF TIME ON YOUR HANDS TO SORT OUT THEIR PROBLEMS FOR THEM. Buy from either TOOLSTATION OR SCREWFIX with their no quibble REFUND POLICY and you will save a lot more money in the long run. I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING ELSE FROM MACHINE MART AND RECOMMEND YOU DO THE SAME OTHERWISE IT WILL COST YOU A LOT MORE OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY. WHY WOULD ANY IDIOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. ASTA LA VISTA DINOSAURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Move aside and let the professionals take over you idiots.

A absolutely appalling company behind the scenes who sell dangerous repaired items and dont care. I feel sorry for the decent staff on the front line with tied hands. I purchased 2 repaired items from the green tag repair bay (mig welder and 200l compressor) and both were faulty. The compressor was sent out with a faulty psi gauge and no pressure switch setting so it ran and ran until the emergency valve kicked in. It also leaked air at the joints... Excellent quality from their engineers! Left unattended this could have been a disastrous and dangerous scenario. Best of all machine mart merely told me to fix it myself and offered no apology at all until prompted. There attitude is so blasé its shocking. The welder again never welded right from day one, came battered out of shape and missing bits. The experience and inconvenience the customer service department inflicted on me was unbelievable. The working standards of their repair engineers is now the pits and the company could not care less about you. Its all about what suits them or tough. I was so disgusted with the repairs i had been given i demanded new or nothing... Machine mart refused on all accounts and i returned the welder and fixed the compressor myself rather than letting their donkeys loose on it again. As a experienced engineer from aerospace, automotive, marine and manufacturing backgrounds i urge you to not buy from this company anymore unless its a simple product. They do not have the technical abilities to safely repair remotely complicated equipment and such are a liability. I will be taking my case further to ensure this does not go unnoticed before someone gets hurt.

Forget about refunds unless the item is faulty you will not be able to return. Very unhelpful but from Argos or B&Q where you can get your money back.

rang up almost a week ago to check If a part was available was advised the part was coming in stock the following Thursday when I rang to check I was told they only stock 1 item at one time and as this 1 item they had was going out to someone else that may come to collect? or may not If they didn't collect I could have it or I could order another 1 ! to collect next week that someone else might beat me to it and then order again for the next week , phoned customer service who was no help at all total sham please stop sending junk mail showing products you do not have and wasting peoples time

Refused a refund on un-needed items, unopened and returned within hours of purchase (same day) No refund, only credit note. Will never shop there again.

Somehow I'm getting emails for a Mr Davies which is not me. I have clicked not to receive anymore, but no they continue. I have emailed back asking not to email me and no response whatsoever. Please don't send anymore I am not interested at all in buying anything from your company. Thanks

Worst customer service I've ever experienced! After being told how great a Honda generator is by the staff, I bought the eu10i for over £800, this lasted just 15months. Whilst sent away with them to be fixed (which by the way took a month for them just to get back to me saying what's wrong.) I bought the Clarke generator for £300 so that I had a spare and something to use whilst waiting for my other to be repaired. The pull cord then broke exactly a month after purchase and they refused to refund or exchange until it had been sent away which would be a minimum of two weeks. I was then directed to customer service, then to another number and then to an email address to make my complaint and seek a solution. Absolutely disgusting service and it's so frustrating that they can get away with this!

I would like to express my severe disappointment at the service I received from Machine Mart I purchased a Clarke IG1000 1kW Inverter Generator to charge my Caravan battery when we were on holiday at the Great Dorset Steam fair. The last two years we didn't use the generator so we have only use once the previous year about 2-3 hours per day, This year we did need to use the generator it ran for 20 minutes and stopped and would not go again the was the second day of are holiday so I had purchase any other generator for the remaining days of are holiday , I did contact Machine mart Liverpool who told me that they could send the generator for a repair costing £24.00 for assessment. The would tell me the cost of the repair I contacted Machine Mart Liverpool today and was told it would cost £290.00 to repair it. It would be cheaper to buy another one, I have been a customer of Machine Mart for years and this is the first time I have been very very disappointed at the service and quality of the product . it is absolutely ridiculous that the generator has only run about 20 hours in its life should need a repair costing £290.00 , I put to you that the generator was not fit for purpose.

Clarke IG1000 Inverter Generator - Really bad generator kept breaking down. Even thought very well maintained. Got a replacement that broke down as well. Then MACHINE MART said the second generators warranty was under the first generators. This was despite the fact the second generator was only four months old. They will not admit there is a fault with there generators despite me seeing five in for repair at the Edinburgh Store. The message is simple do not buy from MACHINE MART they sell faulty equipment.

I have spent thousands here since it opened and had to return something recently which was not a nice experience! They offered me a credit of the full amount or 10% restocking fee - I opted for the credit and promptly tried to buy some work gear but they didn't have what I wanted (not my fault) so they said they would refund me less 10% I explained it wasn't my fault I couldn't use the credit, I was a good customer and all my staff are sent here and I really didn't like the restocking fee and asked for it to be waived. They explained that some people use their tools and bring them back once the job is done for a refund hence the restocking fee. In these circumstances I fully agree with their policy! however, I was returning a sack barrow unused and unwrapped therefore sought leniency or discretion. They refused pointing to the back of the receipt where there was a load of fine print to fine to see never mind read and also to the typed up paper they have on the front counter. I explained I wasn't happy and spoke to the manager to see if he could help. He just pointed out the same policy which I can't dispute...... I was told to complain to head office which I did! they emailed me a standard copy of their returns policy........ I am not disputing their return policy, just think it is ridiculous to fall out with a customer for less than a fiver! I will spend my thousands at screw fix and tool station in future and urge you to do the same as Machine Mart do not respect their customers and don't deserve us. If there was a minus star I would use it! A lost customer and a bad review - was it really worth it for under a fiver!

Left a generator for repair. Paid for the estimate and carriage there and then. After hearing nothing for 3 weeks, I contacted them for a progress report. Was told that they have it at the service place, and will get round to doing an estimate for repair soon. Then they'd contact me for approval of the cost (or not). Then I'd have to wait for it's repair and return.....how long would that take?....no idea. Do I want it back immediately? (un-repaired, of course because they haven't even looked at it yet after 3 weeks) - no of course not....I want it fixed. Ho hum - they're clearly not bothered. This lot are a waste of time, and I agree with other reports - once they've got your money, they don't give a toss. Avoid this outfit - go elsewhere, and spread the word.

On 23.02.15. I ordered an item by 'phone but cancelled it 20 mins later and was promised a refund. On 06.03.15, I rang for a third time as the refund had not reached my credit card. Spoke with am obvious zombie who asked the same few questions over and over until it became super tedious. Zombie man advised that 'admin' would ring next day. No call so I rang again. This time I spoke with a man who twice ticked me off for criticising his imcompetent co-worker, forcing me to remind him that I had often spent money in my local branch and was still a MM customer. After his third pompous outburst I was compelled to promise Moron2 that I would never shop there again. Well done, Zombieman and Moron2. Your customer service is notable for all the wrong reasons.
