“In the Shadows: Resistance in France 1943-1944 is another wonderful addition to GMT's expanding inventory of engaging games that focus on specific conflicts. Will you coordinate the resistance to defeat the German occupation, or maintain an oppressive occupation to silence the Maquis? The two-player and solo modes are well-executed, and overall the gameplay is reminiscent of some of GMT's simpler COIN series. There's no dice to roll, and the outcomes of conflict and operations are determined by the Resolution Deck. Historical figures and events are brought to life in the Event Deck, which drives the action forward and provides considerable player agency. Highly recommended for players interested in games focused on the WWII era, or for those with an interest in some COIN-style mechanics.”

“We were just playing it for a third time since Christmas. We each play two factions. Not only is it superbly planned, designed and executed but is beautiful in appearance. We know as we must have over a hundred board games. It has a wonderful swirling abstract strategy for success that involves cooperating with the other players so that everyone can “Get out of Dodge” before the sun goes supernova!”
