“Check-out their Board of Directors, some are are bit ‘dodgy’. Although, claiming, they did not about the scandals, not me ‘guv’.
Have had a John Lewis Credit Card for nearly 20 years, I pay it off every month, obviously not a cash cow for New Day Credit Card. Now retired, tried to apply on-line, New Day wanted to know my gross monthly salary. I do not have gross monthly salary, you idiots.”
“Offered £250 credit limit on new John Lewis card to replace current one which offers £7,800. Some kind of sick joke! Talk about feeling devalued. After 37 years loyal service to John Lewis there is just no point in getting the new replacement card. Given the amount of money I spend with this company £250 is a pure insult. What a sad end to what was for me a very long and happy relationship, and for John Lewis a very profitable one. They just don`t care about their customers anymore.”
“Less than one star. Are JL serious about staying in business and keeping customers? Transfer process useless, trying to apply to transfer, they blocked my existing card. I AM NOT JOINING MI5, just transferring financial providers!!!!!! Useless, useless, useless. I am now considering ending relationship with John Lewis.
Lost my husband last year, got covid, cannot communicate with useless dr surgery either. 'We will not tolerate abuse' Why not? At the end of the day, if there are no patients or customers, how do these companies workers get their mortgages paid? I've said enough......... if I have to go private for medical, can I opt out of NI? Get a grip and look up work ethic.”
“I've had a John Lewis credit card (operated by HSBC) for about ten years, always paying off the full balance every month by direct debit. Last summer, as we were doing major alterations to the house, they increased my credit limit from £3k to £10k without question. I continued to pay off the full balance every month as before.
John Lewis are now ending their relationship with HSBC and offering a new card on the same terms with Newday. I applied online today, and my application was declined without reason. John Lewis' helpline didn't really want to know, and just referred me back to Newday. After reading other reviews, I realise that I've had a narrow escape.
The end of a long and happy relationship with JL. Shame.”
“Bought a cooker on AO 12 month intrest free first DD one month later before that could happen had a £5 transaction fee (as yet not explained) added to my newday account. Got a text to say they had not been paid set up the portal account and found there is a charge but no details as to what its for. Attempt to pay it and card wont process takes up to 72 hours. few days later I see the payment plus a new £12 charge for LATE payment. wasn't late you processed it 2 days after I made it!
Then i get a email tonight saying because iv broken the credit agreement there now going to charge me interest at 19.9% for the rest of the contract. i log in and attempt to pay the entire balance to avoid any such rubbish. only to be presented with a OOOPS something went wrong every time i try to make a payment same as when i tried to pay the £5 *fee*
This will lead me to never use AO again for any service and have all ready contacted them to close my account (which you can only do by phone) ill be calling new day in the morning but having looked at the reviews here i don't hold much hope.”
“They changed me interest on an 12 month interest fee plan. It was ok for 6 months then they changed me interest. This was for items on Ao. I've cancelled my account and will never use again”
“ABSOLUTE SCAM STAY AWAY
After applying and being accepted your encouraged to set up an online account. A code is given to do this.
IT WILL NOT WORK.
Your only option is to then ring them on a premium number to get it sorted. AFTER SPENDING 6 HOURS RINGING THEM ON THE GIVEN NUMBER. NO ONE ANSWERS.
I'm now complaining to the financial ombudsman as this has to be illegal.
MY CREDIT SCORE IS AFFECTED. YOURS WILL BE TOO.
BE WARNED STAY AWAY.”
“Awful company with no customer service. They even invent fake employees. I was awarded compensation by financial ombudsman because Newday lied to me repeatedly in order to add charges. They never once tried to resolve the matter and refused to discuss. And still not received the compensation they were ordered to pay for inventing employees, charges and for non communication. AWFUL”
“Avoid Amazon credit card, I paid over £1300 and received an email stating the payment was unsuccessful and no money was taken however it was taken and received by New Day. I raised the issue with them on 19th Nov and 5 days later I'm still waiting. I phoned and asked to speak to a manager on 22nd and I was told no manager was available, I asked could a manager phone me back, I was told they would, two days later I've still not received a call back. This morning, 24th November I phoned again and asked to speak to a manager. I was told they would get one however I am still on hold 30 minutes later. Customer service is appalling, they don't care that they have lost £1300 of my money.”
“Having had a Debenhams Newday card for 8 years I was very happy with the card and rewards. With the demise of the Debenhams stores I canx my account and went with Amazon for the rewards and for my Amazon shopping. However I found out it was NewDay as the card issuer and thought my history with them would extend a similar credit limit to that which I had with Debenhams. How wrong could I be, my Amazon CC limited was 87% less than Debenhams CC. No point in having the card! I complained through initially their customer AI which was frustrating and eventually credit card limit department only to be told THE SYSTEM says it will not increase my CC limit. Complaint to CEO John Hourican got me nowhere, palmed off to a numkin. So paid up my balance and closed my account. With respect to other reviews it does appear that Newday are targeting CC for challenging credit users and not a retired executive who pays up monthly with a credit score of 686 out of 700!!”
“AO.com, use this shower of a company, to extort more money out of you. Bought a laptop at 650 at 0%. They are charging me 40% interest on a 0% finance deal. WTF. It seems every month my interest goes up and the total outlay never goes down.
Avoid at all costs, true charlatans”
“Appalling, had their amazon credit card for 4 weeks, spend all of £12 on the card and they charged a £12 late fee for missing paying a £5by 7 days (was on holiday) , so they charged the equivalent of 2.5 min payments and send a really snotty unhelpful letter too. Closed account not the type of company i would want having my business”
“Just cleared one of my cards with Newday Off, and the rest will be going as soon as I can do that, they must have loads of bad debts on their portfolio, because good and long standing customers are getting their collars felt, I am frankly sick to the back teeth of letters from this Company, one minute its persistent debt, the next is reduced credit limit, then account suspended, never missed a payment on any of their cards, we have been, as a country through the most horrendous 18 months with the Covid issues, people losing their jobs, or furloughed, god help anybody that might need help from this shower, oh and if someone pays off the balance and asks for the credit card to be cancelled then that is a request that these people should rightfully honour, not try to spit their dummy out....”
“I got an Amazon New Day card a few years ago and used it from time to time, I had a few installment plans on the card with a responable interest rate.
A couple of months ago, I was informed that one of my installment plans was cancelled for "breach of contract", I quickly checked my account and all my payments had gone through (I pay way over the min required each month) so was kinda confused. So I Called the guys up about this and the support team said "Oh, ye, our bad" and re-enstated the installment plan, I asked what it was I had done but they said it was an error on their side.
I heard others report this issue so decided to settle in full, then 2 months later on a £0 balance I get charged 0.15P interest?
Tried to call but got nowhere as they are unsure why this happened but after reading other reviews this seems like a common tactic employed by the company, it seems like they do this to damage the credit rating for people who try and close the account a month after clearing the balance in full.... guess I was lucky I waited a couple of months to see if they tried to pull this scam and it appears they did. I paid the 15p and closed the account... utter cowboys, avoid this if you value your credit score.”
