“Luv our new furniture, great service thank you”

“During February 2016 I took delivery of a bed and mattress from Oak furniture land. The delivery men were polite, helpful and completed the task in a professional manner. Job well-done. Unfortunately the delivery took a sour note when I was handed a ‘card’ asking me to unpack the bed and mattress and report any issues within 24 hours of receipt. This was not practical as room decoration was incomplete and there was no available space in the bedroom for the next few weeks. I emailed Oak Furniture Land requesting an extension to allow time to complete the decoration but their proposal was limited to one week. I found this small-minded approach disappointing and stressful particularly as the Consumer Rights Act gives me the opportunity to return goods within the first 6 months if they are not “fit for purpose” or not of a “satisfactory quality”. The bed and mattress are now in place and as expected appear to be in good condition and blend in very pleasantly with the surrounding furniture. Notwithstanding that, it is most regrettable this company was not able to take the high ground at the beginning and have more confidence in the quality of their goods to grant me a relatively and modest short extension. Perhaps Oak Furniture Land will learn from this experience and modify the 24 hour deadline to wording that is more in line and more appropriate with Consumer Rights. I do hope there is an improvement to the wording of the ‘card’ as customers should not ever be placed in an unreasonably, uncomfortable position and subjected to unnecessary, undue pressure. AND Oak Furniture Land does have very good products on display and such inappropriate after-sales wording should not be allowed to impede even more sales.”
