As a "One Call " member, just wondering why I had to pay £20.00 for the call out. Ashley, the mechanic, from, James and Aldridge Garage Ltd, was superb, very professional and polite.

I’ve broken down twice recently. Getting through to call centre to report breakdown takes over half hour. When they eventually answer they ask you to hold then promptly cut you off. Not much fun when your a lone female on busy motorway in pouring rain. This happened repeatedly on both breakdowns. 1 st breakdown I waited almost 3 hours, I’ve complained to Lanes. I kept being told another 40 mins, your totally at their mercy. No apology. I was soaked through to my underwear, I suffer pneumonia and have 2 chronic lung conditions, can you imagine my distress. I’m still upset to be treated in the way. Fitter got in my car with no mask on, by now I was freaked out! I drove home with car windows open. I’ve never had a breakdown report. I took car to garage following day as recommended they could find nothing wrong as I had no code to give them. Last week I broke down again, same problem it says car overheating stop immediately. Same issues with call centre. Recovery lorry sent, this time great wearing a mask and within an hour. Car towed to garage. You have no doubt cost me a packet on repairs, still waiting for estimates. If I had the breakdown report in 1st instance I could have had it fixed and not broken down a 2nd time. Some businesses are shocking to deal with your at the top of the list & lanes is 2nd.

I wish I could give NO Stars. Having broken down in the middle of nowhere, we were told by the call handler that whilst the car could be towed to a garage, we had to make a booking at a garage before they would authorise a breakdown recovery. We were on our way to West Wales for a holiday, and were an easy 2 hrs from our destination (where we didn't know any garages), and 2 hrs from our home.( where we did know a garage) She also told us that there was no transport for us, our luggage and our two small dogs and told us to arrange 'a lift with someone'. Who for goodness sake? We were in the middle of the countryside! We waited for an hour and a half for the recovery man and when he arrived he was lovely and said he would take all of us but by then we had contacted my son who was meeting us in |West Wales and he drove for 2 hrs to get us. And then 2 hrs back to our holiday accommodation. Our car was taken to our home town garage some 2 hrs away. We had to hire a car for the rest of the holiday and to get us home again at the end of the week. Our holiday was marred by the frustration of not being helped satisfactorily, the offhand, unfeeling and unsympathetic manner of the call handler who couldn't have cared less. A very, very bad service which I will be seeking some recompense for. And I will never use this service again

I unfortunately had to use one call breakdown today, my car broke down on M4 motorway. I called at 14:14 Long wait for recorded message to finish-so stressful. My car said engine overheating stop immediately. It was raining - I was a lone female. I have used a competitor in the past and know I should be priority- not for these guys. I wasn’t even told to stay out & away from vehicle, but I’ve been in this position before so know the drill. I was told 70 minutes wait.. I have my hands tied here. I work it out approx 15.25 I then get a text to say 15:53 It starts to rain harder, thunder, lightening the lot, I’m like a drowned rat, there is no escaping the spray from lorries etc. I call 16:06 Still no sign of recovery vehicle. I have 2 chronic lung conditions and I’m wet & freezing. I’m told 20 minutes wait. 16.31 they call to say their 20 minutes away. I’m no annoyed I could cry. I have to risk pneumonia or dying by getting hit by a lorry & wait in car. I take my chances & wait in car. Weak with exhaustion the recovery person turns up, It’s now 16:52 he gets in my car, no mask on.. I’m speechless .. he tells me he’s reset it, I can now drive home & take it to garage for diagnostic tomorrow. I waited almost 3 hours in pouring rain for this! What a shambles.

Very bad service. Call operator second time was very rude and nit helpful. Be very careful of their recovery policy. It is designed to ensure they do very little for you.

I waited 3 hours and 10 minutes for a recovery vehicle to get to me. I made a call at 18:36 and was told they should be with me in an hour. After about an hour and a half I called again and was told their was a delay and they would be another 35 minutes. Another hour I called again and was told they would be with me in 15 minutes but anothe 30 minutes later they still weren't with me! Although the One Call agents were helpful when I telephoned them and did put in for a call out straight away, I was left waiting for over 3 hours. I am disabled and couldn't go anywhere without my car. I also suffer with panic attacks and had a panic attack while I was stuck waiting because my phone was running out of battery and I was really worried that I would be stuck there all night. It seems from what I was told by the recovery man that the original breakdown van had a fault and instead of getting somebody else to come to me, they messed about. The mechanic who eventually came to me said he was sitting around for the previous 6/7 hours (since 3pm) and only had a call to go to me 40 minutes before he arrived at 21:46 This really is not good enough!

My wife and I left home at 9:30am to travel to Calne, Wiltshire to see our new grandson and his family. I hit a pothole on the B3011 @ about 10am. The closest village is Heckfield and I believe that Rosie's Tea Room and a Farm are to the right of the incident. There are 2 potholes covering virtually the width of the road. We knew we'd hit a pothole but not the extent of the damage until we'd entered the M4 at Junction 11. I turned off at the first opportunity which was the Moto Services, West Reading. I phoned the Breakdown number (02031080444) included in my Gold Breakdown Membership. The wrecked tyre was replaced by my Space Saver Wheel Tyre. I didn't think it advisable to carry on with our journey on such a tyre on a motorway so began the journey home. I've since received a bill for £60 after overstaying at the car park while waiting for a response We hit our second pothole of the day on the A322 dual carriageway soon after leaving a large roundabout near roadworks @ about 3:30 pm. Once again it was impossible to miss the damaged area. We knew the tyre had 'popped' almost immediately but couldn't stop on the dual carriage so drove about 100 yards and turned into South Farm Lane. We phoned the Breakdown number and explained our circumstances. There was nothing they could do because we didn't have a spare! I telephoned our insurance Claim number (02037387300) and spoke to Mike. He advised the incident was classified as an "Accident" and the car must be taken to a garage for repair. I told him all we wanted was a replacement tyre so only needed to be taken somewhere for that like Kwik Fit. That wasn't possible. I asked if we could be taken home and we'd organise the tyre replacement tomorrow. That wasn't acceptable. The Recovery lorry arrived and the driver was as bemused as us. He phoned his boss to be told we had to be taken to a garage in Reading, some 18 miles away where we'd have no way of getting home. Home was only 10 miles in the opposite direction. The driver suggested we contact a roadside tyre replacement company and he found us a phone number. I telephoned to be told it would cost £250. Should we pay up or be taken to Reading and have no means of returning home? I accepted the offer and signed the driver's form saying I'd rejected the transport to Reading. We set off for home again, arriving at 5:30 pm, 8 hours after we'd set off. For most of this time we didn't have access to facilities such as a toilet. I still haven't received notification that my claim has been cancelled. Would you be happy with this service?

I waited 6 hrs no one came some taxi drivers helped me in the end and a traffic warden was fantastic checked on me several times. But after I rang up 3 times asking what was happening each time begging told soon my phone died apparently one call cancelled by tow in the end after 4.15 hr of me waiting because the tow company keeper delaying my pick up time and they thought it was unelectable. They rang me and left a voice mail on my dead physio be that I was unable to get so I just waited and waited alone and cold in a town centre on a Friday night one have apologised and refunded me my £20 excess back they upgraded me to gold if I break down again free wheel change ( my car has form in a can no wheel to change) 20 miles instead of 10 tow distance I very rarely Tavel more the 8 from home hotel if needed it’s never gunna be needed so a load of perks am never gunna use so nothing of any use

Had to pay £105 to be recovered to home. All other insurance breakdown covers I have had recovery has been to hone or garage local to my home regardless of mileage. Plus I had to find and call many local garages to try and sort out repairs.

My husband was on a motorway slip road when he smelled burning from engine. On checking, he realised oil level was low. As miles from any garage he rang breakdown but was told this was not covered and chargeable. He decided to walk the half hour to nearest garage for oil. He filled the car and drove back home without a problem. Next day we drove car 6 miles when temp gauge started fluctuating with steam coming from bonnet. The oil level was normal but radiator had apparently developed a leak. Further problem occurred when after filling radiator with water the bonnet would not reopen. After abandoning car at roadside, we rang breakdown only to be told by a very rude, impolite assistant that it was our fault due to poor maintenance as we had called day before re oil, even though we hadnt used breakdown call out. Our car is regularly serviced and has never broken down before. This was an unconnected unforeseen second fault. He refused to arrange a tow truck but was willing to quote for one. What are we insured for?? We will never use this company again. They'll find any excuse to wriggle their way out of paying out for the breakdown service you're entitled to. We now have to arrange a tow truck independently.

we have gold cover. we called them out as the car wouldn't start after dropping my son off at school. They sent out a sub contractor(not a mobile mechanic), who started the car and advised us it just needed a good run as it had been sitting idle over Christmas with only a couple of short runs in between. we gave it a 40 minute run on the bypass. during the afternoon school run the same thing happened. onecall refused to come out. they said that as this was a recurring fault they would not provide any service. when we asked how they determined it was a recurring issue the said as we stated "the car wont start" on both call outs this would be classed as a recurring issue. when speaking to customer service the confirmed that they had not received any report from the contractor used and that the call centre operator had no mechanical training and the decision was based entirely on our statement " the car wont start" my pensioner mother with chronic arthritis and 8 year old son where left stranded longer than necessary at the roadside during storm Brendan. when i had recovered the car, the garage replaced the 18 month old battery under warranty

Be very careful. I suffered headlight failure. Called these people for roadside assistance as its included in my car insurance policy. They refused; they don't even carry spare light bulbs. They will try to start your car if it's failed but that seems to be all that's available. They will offer to tow you but in the case of the basic cover will charge you a £20 fee + £3 a mile for each mile over 10 miles. Shunted from One Call Insurance to One Call Breakdown when I sought clarification by phone and Livechat. Not worth even one star to me and my family. Strongly suggest you look elsewhere.

Absolutely appalling was told call out would be 60-90 mins. Three and a half hours later I was still waiting and was told it would be another hour. I luckily had my 95 year old father picked up after an hour as it was getting dark and cold. I ended up cancelling the call out when I was told it would be another hour and will deal with it tomorrow . You are not worth one star. This is meant to be free call out with insurance but it is not as you have to pay £20 before they will even process it and then they tell you about the extras you might incur .

Do not use this company - woeful customer service. Spoke to individual named Stuart who was very patronising, and their other colleague did not explain certain items about the policy which means that I am now stuck in the cold without recovery. Thanks One Call - I won't be recommending you.

Disgusting customer service. Lone woman in the middle of nowhere 2 am in the morning. Been told they want 20 pounds up front can’t take the car to a garage as it is closed, won’t leave it outside of garage because they can’t. £3 a mile to get recovered to my home address as no garrage and earliest they can recover me is 6.30 am. If I feel I am in danger call 111.
