Customer service is very friendly and claims are easy to process. The only down side is that claim reimbursements take so long.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for your time and feedback. We’re glad to hear you feel our Customer Care Team is very friendly and your claims are easy to process. Rest assured, we’re continually focused on enhancing efficiency and reducing the time it takes to process claims. Claims are processed in the order they’re received. Claims take an average of 15 days to be completed. However, more complex cases take up to 42 days currently. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee specific claims outcomes, or the payment of a claim, until all information has been received and reviewed. Once a claim has completed processing, we send out an Explanation of Benefits via email to the Policyholder. If the Explanation of benefits shows a reimbursement for the claim, the first page of the Explanation of Benefits advises how the reimbursement will be sent, via claim check or direct deposit. The Explanation of Benefits also advises to allow 5 to 7 days for a claim check to arrive, or if the Policyholder has signed up for direct deposit to allow 5 to 7 days for bank processing time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience. We hope you have a good day. – PF

Disappointed on the reimbursement for a Wellness Plan visit. Spent 364.00 & only received 60.00!

Hi Frances, thanks for your time and feedback. Our Wellness Endorsements are a set schedule of benefits that are not subject to a deductible or co-pay. Each line item on the schedule is the maximum the policy would pay for that line item for your pet in a policy year. Unfortunately, your pet may use up the benefits quickly depending on what your veterinarian charges for their services. To keep the additional premium for the Wellness Endorsements reasonable for our Policyholders, they are not designed to fully cover all your wellness needs, but to assist you with the financial burden of your pet’s annual wellness care by providing some reimbursement of what you paid to your veterinarian for their services. You can find your Wellness Schedule under Documents and Forms in your account on our website. Policyholders can request to change or remove the wellness endorsement within 30 days prior to their renewal (anniversary date with us) for the effective date of their renewal, or within 30 days after their renewal for the effective date of their renewal, as long as they haven’t taken their pet to the veterinarian from their renewal date to the date they make the request. If you’d like, we’d be happy to go over your claims and coverage concerns with you. You can contact our Customer Care Team by calling (877) 738-7237. Our phone hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. MT and Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MT. Another available option is to chat with an agent by logging into our website at www.petsbest.com and clicking on the blue chat icon. Our chat hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. MT and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. MT. If you’re using your pet insurance for everyday wellness, this insurance is great. They were quick with approving my claim for wellness. However, I submitted a larger claim in relation to a minor trauma that was close to $1000 in medical fees and I have yet to have them even process my claim after almost a month. I’m hoping it is just because it is more money so they have to review more, but I’m skeptical since most pet insurance places promise your money in no more than a week.

Pets Best issues reimbursement for qualified vet services very quickly. Much appreciated. However, it is extremely difficult and frustrating to have claims accepted for the monthly preventive meds for ticks, fleas, etc. The vet doesn't make us visit or that. The vet says to order from Chewy and Chewy contacts the vet who approves the prescription for the right product and dose. I cannot understand why my receipt for that purchase is not accepted. I feel PetsBest will waste my time obtaining documentation and ultimately not reimburse me. That part of the insurance needs to be improved!

Hi Renee, thanks for your time and feedback. When submitting a claim for a Chewy order, we’ve found that if a Policyholder has placed a Chewy order, the Policyholder can access an itemized invoice for their order by logging into their Chewy account, and going to Account Order History and clicking on Details, then clicking on View or Print Invoice. There it should provide an itemized invoice that can be saved to the Policyholder’s computer for use in submitting as a claim. If you’d like, we’d be happy to go over your claim concerns with you. However, we are unable to go over specific information here, so you’ll need to contact us either by phone or by chat, so we can verify your information on a recorded line. They take a lot of time to reimburse a claim. The deductible works differently than human health insurance so that was a little confusing.

Keep in mind all Accident and Illness policies have a Policyholder chosen per pet co-pay and deductible that must be met before reimbursing on eligible claims. It is written into our newer underwriter’s Accident and Illness policy that we apply the Policyholder’s chosen Co-Insurance, minus the Policyholder’s chosen Deductible, up to the Annual Limit of the policy. What this means is, on an eligible Accident and Illness claim, we apply the Co-Insurance percentage first to all eligible line items, and then the Annual Deductible, and what’s remaining is the Reimbursement, up to the Annual Limit of the Policy. That’s because the Policyholder is responsible for the Co-Insurance percentage on the entire eligible invoice, even before meeting the Annual Deductible for the policy year. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee specific claims outcomes, or the payment of a claim, until all information has been received and reviewed. We appreciate your feedback, as it assists us in working towards better customer satisfaction. We hope you have a good day. – PF

The response time/claim closure is REALLY long.. over a month?? That's not an exception, that's your SLA which is tough. If you are going to be rather expensive (I have dogs with other companies) compared to others, please be faster.

Well we have not used it that many times. And the monthly price went up. I am not happy about that. Then I put in 2 claims and I thought I would get more money back but that is not the case. It says it covers flea meds. And I bought flea meds and it said it was not covered. Plus I got shots for him and it seems like I still pay a lot out of pocket yet I pay a lot every month. It would be cheaper if I just take that monthly amount and put it in a saving account to pay for his bills. So I am not happy with it at all.

Hi Heather, thanks for your time and feedback. We strive to deliver the best experience and apologize if any of your experiences with us have fallen short of that. Premium increases happen at your renewal or your anniversary date with us. That’s when we consider your pet to be a year older. The premium at renewal is not based on the claims you’ve submitted, but it is based on your pet’s age, breed, and the cost of veterinary care in your local zip code area. As pets age, their odds of needing medical care increase, as do the odds this care will be more expensive. Premium changes occur annually at renewal to balance these age-related health risks with rising medical care needs. Policyholders can review options to reduce their premium by logging into their account on our website and going to the Benefits button under their pet’s name. Our Wellness Endorsements are a set schedule of benefits that are not subject to a deductible or co-pay. Each line item on the schedule is the maximum the policy would pay for that line item for your pet in a policy year. It would truly be 5 stars but the turn around time can take up to a month especially if you forgot to submit all documents. So if you submit a claim that will take 2 weeks and let's say you forgot to submit extra information well add 2 more weeks on top of that. Then extra 5 to 7 days till the refund comes through. The quickest refund I received might have been about 3 weeks. The current refund I'm waiting for its about a month now plus 5 more days. It's OK overall.

Hi Howard, thanks for your time and feedback. Unfortunately, any condition that shows signs or symptoms prior to the policy start date or during the policy waiting periods, is not covered by the policy. The Accident and Illness policy waiting periods are 3-days for Accidents, 14-days for Illnesses, and 6 months for Cruciate Ligament events. These waiting periods start from the effective date of the policy. If the condition is not coverable, then the diagnostics and treatments are not covered for that condition. You can find your Policy Information under Documents and Forms in your account on our website. Anytime a Policyholder is in dispute of a claim that has been denied as a pre-existing condition and wants us to review their claim further, the Policyholder can submit an Appeal Form with supporting documentation to us. I have 3 dogs - 2 are on Nationwide and the newest member of our family on Pets Best - thought I would give someone else a try for different reasons pertaining to coverage. We have not had a whole lot of use for the coverage yet as she is just 1 but I just think it takes them way too long to process a claim. More than 4 weeks on both claims I have had to submit. With our other coverage I submitted a claim for my dog having surgery on Thursday and the reimbursement was in my account on Monday. Pets Best just sends e-mails apologizing for the delay. I am not sure why it takes them so long to process a claim and they were not any big giant claims - one was for a UTI. Very glad it was not for a large sum of money I was waiting on reimbursement for.

The insurance itself is great and has saved me a ton of money on our Goldendoodle who continues to love socks. However, this time has been absolutely terrible on the length of time for reimbursement. I have waited almost 1.5 months for reimbursement! The first time I had to file a claim it was 7-10 days, now 1.5 months I have been out 2k dollars! They need to figure out how to have a faster reimbursement the way it used to be!
