“CAR INSURANCE very poor service , constant lies on progress , very poor response to questions / feed back, very poor garage support / coverage following accident was appoint 3 different garages who could do work worst company ever used price not always the best way to go hence will never use them for anything again”
“Following an accident on 10th January I'm still awaiting return of my car on 1st April. This follows four promised and then cancelled delivery dates. while at no time have Saga been proactive in contacting me, rather they have waited for me to contact them. My experience from beginning to end has been nothing short of shambolic and for a company that that prides itself on caring for its customers they certainly do not walk the talk. Based on this experience I would urge anyone thinking of using SAGA to do so with a great degree of caution.”
“I'll never insure with Saga again after their blatant attempt at ripping me off with a near doubling of renewal premium for home and contents insurance. Prior to that I was also overcharged and they refused to repay my money "because they don't refund if the amount is under £5". Other companies offer a much better service.”
“I Was Unfortunate enough to have to make a claim with this company. Nothing compared to their promise:-
Own claims manager to deal with claim :- FORGET IT. You have about 3 or 4 different claim companies involved and each one blaming the other for being slow.
They will pay to accommodate you at other accommodation whilst they have qualified tradesmen dealing with your claim. WRONG AGAIN, We were without a toilet and wash basin in the house for days and no showers for weeks for a family of five. No mention of alternate accommodation and the so called Qualified tradesmen :- Well what a bunch of cowboys !!! I do not mean to insult proper Cowboys, but I would nor employ the ones I had in the house to cut my firewood for me, They lived about 50 miles away and only do insurance claims and turn up about 10.00 and go about 3.00. It took 6 months from 1st claim telephone call to get rid of these workers from my home, because in the end I did actually tell them to go and I would finish the work off myself. I am now redoing some of the work which I did actually let them do because many nights on my return from work, I would have to dismantle what had been done during the day and spend all night doing it right. Other days I would take time days off work to show them how to do jobs they had no idea how to do. If I had let them carry on the way they wanted to do the shower cubicles. We would have had floods in the house after the first use of the shower.
Forget cheap quotes :- you only get cheap and incompetent workers if you are ever unlucky enough to have to claim.”
“When does it cost more to insure a group 3 [value £4950] car than to insure a group 13 [value£12500] car? Answer-when you insure with SAGA - their claim to understand the needs of older people is absolute misrepresentation - if only I had read the reviews first !”
“Impossible to speak to this company. They run up your phone bill with irrelevant messages, then keep you waiting for at least ten minutes - the old 'we are experiencing high volumes etc.'
You will hear this same message at lunchtime on Christmas Day!
Truly a dreadful service.”
“My grandma (who is 84, but well) rang up SAGA as her yearly travel insurance was due to run out, as she was only due to take one trip this year, she requested a price for a 2 week holiday. She thought it was expensive but thought it was just due to her age, so paid the £300.
She then spoke to me, I thought that this was rather extortionate and checked on online price comparison sites, where I could get the same insurance, from SAGA, for around £120.
She rang them back (within 2 hours of taking the policy out) and they refused to do anything. Their only defence was that "the policy sold over the phone had £12 million cover rather than the £10 million available online. I have also complained to them and received a very bog standard reply admitting that the £2 million was the only difference in the products
From a company specialising in the elderly, this seems very unfair behaviour. She was not renewing an existing policy, and was not given the option of a cheaper policy on the phone (who would pay nearly £200 extra for that extra £2 million cover on top of the £10 million available?!).
This seems like a very shady practice on their part, especially given a large proportion of their customers likely do not use the internet for insurance quotes.”
“Had car insurance with Saga, fully comprehensive with protected no claims (had max no claims). Also had a motorcycle policy arranged through Carole Nash. Was rear-ended on my motorcycle at a give way sign whilst stationary. The third party admitted liability and claim dealt with very efficiently by Carole Nash. Advised Saga of claim on my motorcycle policy at next renewal and they sought to increase the premium on my car policy as a result for each of the next five years! Carole Nash advised "as the third party has admitted liability your premium [for the car policy] should not be effected or indeed increase". Saga would not relent therefore moved my car insurance to Carole Nash. Would not use Saga again.”
“The staff are not professional... Nobody knows anything, called 1000 times, they have promised their adviser keep in touch in 24 hours... Nobody called me back. I don't recommend to anyone. Avoid Saga...”
“Beware, renewal 325 over last years 287? No change or claims? £25 admin fee? For an existing policy with all correct details, why? Under righting insurance Lloyds. Compare with Hastings. Again with Lloyds insurance. Buildings £1 million same, contents 75k Saga 1.5k Hastings, accomodation costs 100k Saga..200k Hastings, legal costs inlcluded, accidental damage included, emergency cover included, all equal or better with Hastings....£202 Hastings £325 Saga.......having spoken to them no apology they can't compare due to privacy rules but they would be quite happy to let me pay the higher premium...oh yeah....all in all would never touch them again clearly making a killing on each policy.....”
“Yearly price hikes. Con. Price hike due to temporary and precautionary in error prescription for Statin taken for very short time and stopped when the error was superceded by a Dr. Perfectly well but price hike anyway. On complaint messed around for months with repeated emails staing about to deal with letter putting off for another month. Review put on TrusPilot.”
“My 82 year old Mother (a loyal customer) received a home insurance quote for £350. A quick comparison on the many comparison sites for a policy with identical T&Cs came in at around £115. Whilst these other companies are obviously offering good deals to attract new business; saga are clearly taking liberties with it's elderly customers. Shame on you!”
“Firstly my husband and I insured both our cars with Saga. When I sold my car and bought another- smaller engine car- I asked for a quote on my recent purchase- having given correct make, model, engine size.,fuel type, colour registration number etc I was given my quote- My certificate came back with wrong registration, wrong model, wrong engine size (stronger engine),wrong fuel.
Secondly, having gone onto a Comparison site to find out other Insurance quotes plus Saga's,it was decided to stay with Saga although they were not the cheapest . When I telephoned I was given a quote which was £128apprx more than I was previously paying. NO CHANGE OF CIRCUMSTANCES. I was told it was because I was taking out another quote and my husband's (as named driver ) history was being taken into account and I should pay more. Why? I had previously been told that as my husband insured his car with Saga his driving history with HIS car did not affect my insurance for my car because we were both insured with Saga. However, now I have been told this does not apply for my insurance. Why the change?????
Thirdly, when I telephoned to advise of wrong information and gave correct information again , I was given an even higher price!!!! The information given during original telephone call for quote was correct so why was I now being told the cost was approx £95 more.
This definitely needs investigating by an outside official-eg insurance Ombudsman, Consumer Complaints programme etc.
My husband and I can't change insurance company now but...............
Ps. I did send an email yesterday but telephoned today 10/12/18.
Have left my name off but had to give email address as proof this is genuine.”
“Saga car insurance is without doubt the worst of the worst car insurance companies. If it wasnt for the branded name, I would have thought they were a scam outfit.
I had a very minor 'no fault' car bump (less than £150 to repair) and decided to report it - I wish I hadnt! I was treated like a criminal, accused of fraud, recieved 12+ phone calls, three letters, and had staff badgering me on the phone - asking the same quesitons over and over, when i couldnt quite recall the detail I was told I was lying. If the police treated criminals like this there would be a public outcry.
The whole 'saga' must seem laughable to an outsider.
Avoid like the plague!”
“Fed up with saga. They increase their premiums by an exorbitant amount every year until you can stand the increases no more. Just tried to amend my car insurance policy and they wanted to charge me an admin fee of £25 and very nearly double my premium. The value of the car was comparable to my old car. No way! cancelled my policy and went on a comparison site. Much better deal. Goodbye saga!!”
“I received a letter from Saga offering me quote on car insurance but after reading the reviews I will not be entering into any contract as the customer service side is disgusting. Thank you to all that gave honest and very helpful reviews.”
“I had to cancel my insurance as my car was scrapped. I am a pensioner who lives on just my reduced married woman state pension and after I had cancelled my policy I had a letter saying that I owed £76.+ on my cancelled policy. I was not informed in our phone conversation that they would charge me a £50 policy cancellation fee and 26+ pounds for the legal protection. I rang and told them I was a pensioner and that this amounted to nearly a fifth of my monthly income, but the lady concerned said I was told at the time of taking out the policy that these charges would apply. It was a case of 'tough' Not only will I have to reduce my heating in the house now I will also have to reduce any payments I make to my grandchildren for christmas. Well done Saga. You are supposed to help the elderly not fleece them. I shall never use you again and will make sure all my pensioner friends don't touch you will a barge pole.
Lets hope you and your staff never get old.”
“Had to cancel holiday after cancer diagnosis, Saga rejected my claim as I did not inform them of my first visit to the doctors which incidentally was not related to the cancer.
Very disappointed and will not be renewing any policies with Saga.
The travel insurance is underwritten by Cigna who you have to deal with regarding any claim. I have since found they have a lot of negative reviews.”
