“Have received this year's house and contents renewal, an increase of 51.83% on last year, no change in policy. Insured house and contents with Saga for 6 years, no claims, dread to think what their new enhanced quite would be. When I rang to query I was told that it was the under writers who put price up. (Not "our" fault then!) I was offered a 5% cut in total price!”
“Had SAGA car insurance for years. Went to change my car 5 months into the policy and they advised me this would increase my premium to £81 pounds a month for the remaining 6 months, making a total of almost £750 pounds for the year for a 60 year old driver with 10 years no claim and no convictions. Went into their website and not only was I driving a cheaper car to insure, but the total for the entire years insurance was £300. Blatant rip off attempt - cancelled insurance same day and went with different company, will also be cancelling my home insurance policy”
“Only once in the last 49 years that I made a claim(emergency) this was with SAGA. The way it was dealt with was appalling! It took nearly 6 weeks to address my complaint, not to mention the fact that they said they did not receive my letters. One of which I sent to their CEO Mr Lance Batchetlor. I will never deal with this company again, and I will advise anybody to do likewise.”
“We suffered storm damage to a dovecote on our roof, leaving a very large hole and the roof not weatherproof. I was also concerned that birds/vermin could get into my loft. Nothing was done to progress my claim despite the fact that I repeatedly advised that an urgent temporary repair at least was needed to make the roof weathertight. 10 days later, still nothing had been done to help me get a repair done. Meanwhile the weather had taken a turn for the worse and we experienced heavy rainfall. I therefore had no choice but to pay for the repair myself and I've now made a complaint to Saga. I haven't made an insurance claim for many many years, in fact I can't remember when I last made any claim. I took out this policy with Saga expecting to receive a good customer service from them if I needed it, but have been seriously disappointed. I strongly advise against taking out a policy with this company!”
“Purchased Home and contents insurance for my very elderly in-laws ,who do not have or wish to have internet ,WiFi etc ,so requested the policy is sent by Royal Mail. They are STILL waiting and after three phone calls chasing this up ,There STILL waiting ,NOT VERY IMPRESSED.Should be sorted by now !!!!!!!!.”
“Trying to download my car insurance details for the past hour ..... apparently there is a problem with a missing button on website so not available and wont be for 7 days. Unfortunately the guys on chat were not aware of this problem. The O800 helpline doesn't work and even the survey post call doesn't register key hit answers. I am not saying the actual product is necessarily bad but they don't seem to be set up as an on-line service business which is disappointing. Will receive details in post”
“Terrible inefficient booking experiences with Natasha. Promised to phone back ...didn’t. Later when I phoned was told mix up was passed to manager and would receive phone back ..didn’t. I phoned back...original offer of booking lost and additional week unobtainable which I believe could have been stated without research. What is going wrong with Saga? Used to be so reliable.”
“My husband received a renewal nice for his annual travel insurance. He called SAGA telling them that he would renew in a couple of months as he wasn't travelling til then. SAGA indicated that this was a good idea.
When he came to renew about 6 weeks later the premium had increased by about £40. When querying this we were told that "there's a very good discount if you renew on the renewal date", this was not mentioned previously. He has looked on a comparison site and obtained a much better price. Goodbye SAGA !!”
“I'm in the process of changing my car, it's actually the same car, just a newer version. Saga say they can't cover me for the new vehicle and they can't tell me why they can't cover me, so I'll have to cancel it (I only paid for a years cover a week ago) and arrange cover elsewhere, for which they're going to charge me £50. Utterly hopeless.”
“I had a engine fire in my Mercedes at the beginning of March. The notification process and claim was handled over the phone and was fine. The car was a write-off and was promptly collected and removed by a firm called Co-Parts; All well and good. 7 weeks later I have had no contact from SAGA. The claim is still outstanding, despite my calls to Saga Claims and Customer Services. I am now awaiting a review call from their underwriters ACROMAS. A delay of almost two months in a simple claim is unacceptable. My other vehicle is also insured with SAGA and I have 18 years no claims bonus. Needless to say I shall not be recommending SAGA to my friends and certainly not renewing my home or car with them again.”
“I notified Saga Car Insurance of the change in car from petrol to fully electric and was then informed by Saga they wouldn't be able to cover my new car; therefore the current policy was effectively cancelled and I would be charged a £50 cancellation charge. This is an absolute disgrace.
I fully accept this is not the fault of the operative (in fact I even took the time to iterate this during the call) so asked to speak to someone senior. Apparently they were all ins a 'meeting' and I couldn't be furnished with a name / contact. Very, very weak management.
I certainly will have no further dealings with any part of the Saga group
and I will be contacting Trading Standards.”
“Very disappointed. Total lack of communication and little or no customer service. I felt that Saga supported the repair garage far more than the customer. Definitely not a company one would ever use again!!”
“What a waste of time the legal protection is. Very difficult to contact. Slow beyond belief. Awful customer service and of course no cover when needed. Very disappointing!”
“My car was written off on the road by a tractor while I was out walking my dog. The farmer was on my doorstep admitting liability, very apologetic and supplying his insurance details. Straightforward you would think? My initial call to Saga was very reassuring but then they passed the whole matter to another company called Claimsfast (said to be a division of Saga). They were a bunch of nasty, threatening, disorganised rogues. For nine months I continued to receive letters telling me its not quite over, so dont relax, we may still need you to attend court if we dont get the 3rd party to admit liability. It was a dreadful experience, just when I needed support Saga were most definitely not there. Dont buy their car insurance.”
“Had an incident where a horse damaged my pick up. Rider admitted liability. Saga have been completely useless in helping me resolve the claim. When my insurance was due for renewal there was a 30% uplift as they had it recorded that the incident involved a motorbike!!!
Customer service is rubbish.”
“Cancelled house insurance (big increase)
Two days later they took the money out of my
Account, phoned up to complain its ok we will
Refund your money
Still waiting
Never use them again”
“My car insurance renewal was quoted approximately £80 more than the previous year, this was more than i expected as i now had one years no claims bonus which i didn't have the previous year. Out of interest i got another quote from the company that insure my other car and was horrified to find it was over £200 cheaper. The exact same thing happened to me a few years ago and has also happened to a friend of mine. It seems like the first policy you take out as a new customer is competitively priced then your renewal is very expensive and not competitive at all. This is very worrying as a lot of older people just renew without obtaining other quotes. I would strongly recommend all saga customers dont just accept their renewal price and always get some other quotes to make sure they aren't being overcharged.”
