“Seeing all the lovely comments of how easy it is to take out your car or home insurance and such an easy website to negotiate, I thought I would add my story, as
I have not seen any reviews of people who have successfully claimed
My Saga with Saga
My letter to Saga
I feel very disappointed in Saga I have only had three claims in about sixty years not all the time with Saga Insurance 1 A sink where I dropped a spanner in it. 2 A sheet of glass in our Lean-to which got cracked and a fire side rug when it got burnt. On this occasion the first thing I noticed was water coming through the ceiling I rushed up into the loft and I am eighty three years old and that is not so easy nowadays I expected it to be a sticking Ball valve but no it was a split in the side of the PVC cold water storage tank everywhere was saturated I turned the water off and turned on the hot taps to drain the tank I called Saga and was told someone one would come to sort it out I waited until quite late and as no one had come I phoned to tell them I had turned the water off and drained the tank and to come next day. I then had to fill the tank up to just below the split as my wife is an invalid and must have hot water as Carers come in three times a day to assist me. The next day a man arrived to check it out I’m afraid he did not seem to know very much and said turn off the water and turn on the cold taps to drain the tank I said my cold taps are on the mains and he said that was wrong I said I would not want to drink from a loft tank he took a few photographs and spoke to someone at the office and then said they would not be doing anything and they deal with drains and to call back to Saga which I duly done. When I spoke to the lady at Saga she said I was not covered for plumbing or water leakage I assumed I was covered and she also pointed out that there would be a three hundred pound access to pay I put this all down to myself being complacent in not checking my policy properly. Luckily I had stopped the water before it brought the ceiling down or got onto the carpet although all the Artex was hanging off or in bubbles I thought that if I was going to have to pay for a plumber and the first access I would have a go myself, if I had known I would have obtained British Gas Homecare four that covers everything which I have now done. I also managed to find a good plumber who knew what he was doing and fitted a new tank for me. I then had to clear out all the loft insulation that had become sodden and then go to B&Q for new rolls of insulation and putting this down was not an easy task for me climbing up into the loft and laying it while looking after my wife I had to have the heating on day and night to dry everything out and I have now started to scrape the ceiling and will have a go at Artexing myself. All of this has cost me about six hundred and fifty pounds but the worse thing has been the stress of looking after my wife who has Dementia and having to sort all this out. It would be a good idea to enlighten all us older people when we are not covered for certain things and recommend British Gas Homecare four for our peace of mind.
I cancelled my car and home insurance with Saga and will never use them again.”
“Company ok until you have to claim then you will regret ever going with them. Worse insurance company i have ever been with & I'm 61. 4 months to resolve & I'm out of pocket by over a £1000 in an accident i was totally innocent in. Pay a bit extra & go with a company more competent & more professional just in case you need to claim.”
“Rang their emergency line (we took out this add-on at a premium) following a leak from the bathroom (from behind the shower.) THREE days later (good job it wasn't an emergency as we had turned off the water supply) a guy turned up and surprise! surprise! said we weren't covered due to the usual 'wear and tear.' Because we had the temerity of actually investigating a claim our premium went up exponentially. Do not touch these people with a barge pole. Woeful nay risible! Shocking that they can get away with such subterfuge (particularly in the climate of PPI and the like.) As they say greed never learns its lesson.”
“SAGA= RUBBISH INSURANCE
Might be easy and quick to renew, we were with them for over 3 years and still are till August this year, WE WON'T BE RENEWING.
Had some storms and suffered roof damage, my neighbour had a complete new roof but when I tried to claim I was told -NO-...Aparently according to their wind speed records taken over 14 miles away from my home, the highest wind speed was 46 MPH, Aparently it has to be over 50 mph before any claim can be looked at......generally unhelpful and wouldn't listen when I explained that we had storm damage from gusts up to 83mph.
As I said, might be easy to renew and maybe they are cheaper than some but you try making a claim when you need them.
We WON'T be renewing or recommending Saga.”
“I had a leak coming from my bathroom through the kitchen ceiling, I have never made a claim before so thought as i pay insurance I will claim instead, just found out that SAGA will not help, I’ve been a loyal customer for years.... just goes to show you can pay all this money for insurance for them to do absolutely nothing! also SAGA got their surveyor company BVS to tell me they were doing nothing to help..... totally disappointed and disgusted, i will be leaving them and I will NEVER recommend them, thank you for nothing SAGA”

“DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT insure with this company. I have previously been insured with post office insurance never had a problem for 17 years. This year their renewal figure was way over the top so i shopped around and found saga car insurance was the most competitive. Move forward to NOV 2019 our car was stolen, after the first call to report it have had no call backs, no contact, no advice, nothing my wife has rang them 5 times. Finally today a manager has contacted us to tell us that the claim is null and void because we have miss-placed(not lost) the spare key the car was a 55 plate zafira worth about £400. We are told from children to be honest but if we had lied and said we only had one key they would have paid out. Safe to say I will never use, recommend or trust this company ever again. Why do I feel like the criminal even though we had our car stolen by some lowlife whats the point of car insurance if they find any excuse not to pay out!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DISGUSTED”
“I recently renewed my car insurance with Saga. I received several emails and letters (to the point of harassment) saying that I needed to send them evidence of my No Claims Discount from my previous insurer, which was them! When I told them that they were my previous insurer and so they could refer to their own documentation, they said that I needed to show evidence of where I was insured during the interim period. Cue me panicking, thinking that I had put the wrong renewal date and had been driving around uninsured. Nope, I had put the right date - they had been insuring me uninterrupted and I had to forward them their own email that they had sent me to prove this!! If they had apologised and admitted that they were in the wrong, then I woudn't have bothered posting this, but no apology. I won't be renewing next year for sure, even if they are cheaper.”
“Just to say referring to my previous reviews I never got my £30 compensation after being promised twice that it would be sent. Considering what I have had to put up with in the last year, that sums up for the way they operate nowadays.”
“Having all my Insurance with Saga from motor home travel landlord I always thought them a reliable understanding Insurer
However after making just one claim I have found they hide behind red tape and will try and find anyway they can to make it difficult as possible to claim
Even after complaining they kept coming up with different facts
I will be reviewing all my Insurance on renewals”
“A car with our number was meant to have been in a collision but the claims section on two separate calls have given me 2 dates 5 months apart and cannot say what type of car was involved or where it happened. My renewal premium (despite low mileage and 16 years no claims) has been increased by 30% but no-one can tell me why. The premium payment section cannot even transfer my calls to the claims section. It would seem the IT is too intelligent not only for the clients but for the staff having to use it.”
“Without a doubt the biggest mistake I have ever made was to take out Home Insurance with this mob.
Had a small leak...reported it on Wednesday. Plumber set round. Wouldn't touch it in case there was asbestos. Told me that it needed an Asbestos test and that he would talk to his company about it ( Metroplumb). Never heard a thing back so contacted Saga again. Passed from pillar to post. Eventually spoke to Axa Home emergency. They sent another plumber from a company called FixIf round. Guy said he could fix the leak but couldn't touch the celing because it needed an Asbestos test. I said I knew and thought that is what he had come to do. No ...so I contacted Saga again....passed from pillar to post again. Ended uptalking to the Co-op whowere very stand offish and simly regarded the whole affair as not their problem. Back to Saga...passed on to Axa who said I wasn't covered for an asbestos test. Back to Saga. Closed for the weekend. Friday night now....leak not fixed...water now coming down the light fittings and into the main fuse box. Saga not interested...Axa say I am not covered and need to arrange own asbestos test!
You couldn't make this up. Dealing with this lot could not be more difficult! Meanwhile a minor leak has now grown into a major emergency.
Do yourselves a favour....Do NOT even consider taking out a home insurance policy with this lot. They are not cheap but their service is. I cannot wait for this policy to expire. I will NEVER deal with them again...I shall cancelmy motor policy too.
Without a doubt the WORST insurance company I have ever had to deal with. I had to give one star...there is no box for zero stars . I wouldn't even give them that....minus 5 would be my preferred score. Absolutely useless.....the WORST.”
“Appalling company. Lies, expensive, errors in cover, refusal to inform of cost to cancel making it impossible to cancel.
I have been uninsured driving due to their errors and I will be referring them to the ombudsman.
Just don't! Go elsewhere, anywhere but these clowns!”
“Very poor response to a claim after a car reversed into my vehicle after I had parked it. The claim took over 9 months to resolve. If I didn't phone the company up, about once every month, nothing seemed to be done.”
“Further to my last comments earlier in the reviews. My new insurance company never wavered the access charge of £89. 73 which they put on my new policy after Saga had stated I had made a claim which Saga later stated in writing that it was a fault of theirs and I had not made a claim. And I am still waiting for the £30 compensation to arrive perhaps it will.”
“I had a broken window from a burglary. The glaziers used by Saga have messed me around. They cancelled two appointments without warning. Over two weeks later and still no window. How difficult can it be to fit a small piece of glass? Saga has not been much help in getting a speedy resolution to a small job. I dread to think what would happen if I had a really serious problem. I should have used a local glazier. Will be thinking carefully about renewal.”
“I had a crack in the windscreen. They palmed me off to auto windscreen who told me I’d have to wait a week to get it done. They then brought the wrong windscreen TWO hours late. Several long phone calls later they have said I’ll have to wait a further TWO WEEKS to have it replaced. Shocking, shocking service.”
