“stay away from saga
they will not fight your corner and will leave you in the lurch when you need them most
Unless you pay for all the upgrades they will not even recover your excess in a no fault accident.”
“I was an existing customer
Bought a new Nissan Leaf (electric) car and wanted to switch my cover from previous car.
comparethemarket.com Saga = £356 (the top ten companies were all about the same price).
Called to arrange it:
Told 'Oh your underwriter doesn't cover electric vehicles, but the underwriters will cover it for £669.55
Went to M & S slightly better cover with the extras £375”
“Saga the clues in the name tears, long stories and absolute frustration, staff toeing the company line with no empathy at all for your unforeseen circumstances, through no fault of your own. If you get hit by a Saga driver I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT accept their call to take on your claim, it might possibly save your no claims bonus but at what cost. They offered to take away the damaged car and have it fully repaired and provide a loan car. They don't mention if they deem the repair un-viable they will write it off ! They take days and weeks to respond and I personally felt they manipulated us into submission! Final straw they give you a loan car then say you can keep it max 5 days after agreeing a settlement that takes 7-10 days to pay into your bank account, so your car less ! and all because they've used a third party company to value your cars repairs at top dollar prices! Does the picture look like £4000 worth of damage !??”
“Received an accident claim from SAGA that was not a valid claim
SAGA had not investigated it but just assumed I was in the wrong.
No evidence provided with the claim, just a note that they would be taking money from my bank account.
I now have to prove that I did not have an accident 4 hours drive from my home?”
“Do not use saga home emergency service. Not fit for purpose.
Reported water coming through kitchen ceiling at 820 am. It was raining so they decided roofer needed. First avail appointment was in five days. I complained and they agreed to send plumber to check pipework at 950.he arrived 7 hrs later and found hole in roof. I arranged a roofer that eve at cost of £150to myself.
Saga customer services don't want to know and referred me to underwriter whose complaints dept isn't interested. Delay has caused damaged to ceiling which will need to be replaced.
Saga emergency services not fit for purpose.
Final insult.... After five days the roofers turned up even though job cancelled”
“Saga car insurance. Dreadful, simply dreadful. Traumatic doesn't describe it. Saga regard older people as things to be absolutely fleeced. One of the most despicable companies I have ever encountered.”
“Avoid this company.
Thankfully I have never had to claim from this outfit, but if their claims service is as bad as their customer service, then I would be concerned.
They offer Cashback, but once your policy is paid, they decline it. Nobody responds to emails. I had a motor insurance policy thankfully paid before it’s commencement and I noticed a discrepancy that meant I wouldn’t have been covered if I hadn’t notice their serious error.
I have phased out two of my car insurance policies and when my home insurance expires next year, I will not use Saga who I have no faith in whatsoever.
Avoid.”
“I paid an amount up front, then opted to pay for the premium on a monthly basis. I have just cancelled my motor insurance as I've had to get a Motability car with hand controls and my insurance is covered by them. I was paid right up to date at Saga so expected that to be the end of the matter. NOT SO!! I've just received a bill from Saga for £58.98! There is no mention of WHY I supposedly owe this money, and my entire year's insurance was only £15 a month. It is absolutely outrageous! I will never use them again!”
“Anyone trying to claim insurance please check any documents you receive regarding insurance renewal. On page 8 of 22 headed Endorsements it reads Buildings Limited Accidental Damage.
* fixed glass in windows, doors, …
the omission of a semi colon after the "in" makes it read that you should be insured for damage to doors.
On Thursday 20 August a gust of threw wind caused my front door to slam against the frame. The gust was so strong it broke the hinges off. I had no front door.
Thursday and Friday I tried to find out if I was insured. No joy. Also the agent could not tell me how much it would cost to have an emergency tradesperson to call out.
On 24 August I cancelled the insurance with Saga and was assured the payment would be repaid that day. It is now the 30 August and no repayment received!
I have complained about the poor service and also pointed out this grammatical error. My complaints have been passed on to an executive.”
“Do not use this company for Home emergency cover. First call took 15mins to be answered. The trade person did not contact me within the 2rs promised. Second call took 40mins to be answered. Seems as though the operator did not pass on my mobile number for the trade person to call me. Eventually I was put through to the tradeperson who promised to call me back within 10mins. This did not happen. Called tradeperson back again and they said sorry too busy to come even though emergancy will have to wait until morning. Suggested i call saga back to arrange for someone else. Tried to call saga back but lines said too busy to take your call and was cut off!!! kept getting same message. On a positive note the trade person came out in the morning and they were excellent. had a night of real worry hoping situation would not get worse. Saga Home emergency in my view are not fit for purpose and i intend contacting them later with my complaint. They need more operators to answer their phones and need to then do their job correctly and pass on phone numbers.”
“Awful . Outrageous fees for policy changes .Unlike a lot of companies who have refunded policy holders due to huge reductions in claims because of lockdown ,Saga didn't offer any refunds at all. Again a lot of reputable insurance co.have waived all fees related to changes on policies but again Saga HASN'T WAIVED any fees .
If you are considering a Saga policy just checked any midterm fees before you hand over any money .
Takes a Lifetime to get a customer and a minute to lose one ..Saga is the latter .
*************AVOID***********”
“My dad's insurance is due for renewal in November 2020. I wanted to put myself his daughter 49, pharmacy assistant no claims on to his policy as he had 2 strokes in may 2020. Saga wanted £42 pound to do this. Disappointed 😞”
“As with previous reviews, they bombard you with FALSE offers and appear to waste your time going through quotes. They apparently know that you will be refused cover due to age but keep you on the phone for marketing purposes! How can they write to you with discounted offers when they are not prepared to even consider covering you? Imagine how they would treat you if you made a claim. Avoid like the plague. I was an Insurance Broker for many years, take my advice!”
“Saga are ok until you make a claim. Then they are USELESS.
They let us down badly.will NEVER insure with them again.
They use some company based in Gibraltar. TERRIBLE.
Where they got there Defaqto 5* rating from is beyond me.”
“I fail to comprehend how many customers give 5 star reviews without even testing Saga when it comes to a renewal or a claim.
Why do customers give high ratings just because Saga are very efficient at taking their money ?
I have recently foolishly taken out a 3 year fixed price car insurance. The price is not actually fixed as they fail to mention in any literature or adverting that you pay a yearly administration fee. You have to pay this admin fee whether your circumstances change or not.
My second problem is that when changing to a smaller car part way through the year I am loaded with a 15% rise in premiums. And no that does not include the £25 admin fee which I actually expected to pay so absolutely no problem with that to be fair to Saga. However what is not fair is that a smaller car costing £10,000 less than the car I traded in .. a smaller less powerful engine and 2,000 less miles a year !!!
Third problem.... promised by customer service advisor her manager would ring within 24hrs. Now plus 48 hrs and counting.
4th problem... asked by customer relations advisor to contact them. Its now plus 24 hrs since obliging them with the information as asked. Bet you can guess if they have actually responded... a big fat no.
They now ask me if I would like to take out house insurance. I now award them 5 stars for their audacity !!!”
“Avoid, terrible service. My windscreen was vandalised overnight whilst we were 250 miles away visiting my 93 yrs old mother in law for the 1st time in 3 months. SAGA gave me their ‘windscreen’ telephone number to ring, this got me through to Auto Windscreens Limited. My BMW is still under warranty so I required a BMW genuine manufactured/supplied replacement windscreen with ADAS for this I would have to pay an excess of approx £600 and wait 8 days for it to be supplied and fitted. No assistance for a replacement hire car or accommodation. If I knew this useless service would be experienced if my windscreen was smashed I would not have purchased this SAGA car insurance, avoid!”
