“I complained to Saga six weeks ago about substandard service via telephone and webchat facility. This related to home emergency issue.Whilst I understand that they conveniently pass the buck to the underwriter Axa( I am also waiting to hear from them the after six weeks).
Saga called me today to say that they have investigated my complaint and found their people acted impeccably!
If this is impeccable service I would hate to see substandard service.
Having been passed from pillar to post by a succession of so called advisors (seriously had about seven of them) each passing me on or doing a Pontus Pilate, they now say they were good.
Advice to others? Consider someone else”
“After a 4 year battle with Saga about removing a bogus claim against me from a dubious 3rd party who removed their claim and Saga kept it open so they could charge me a higher premium. Today, they sent me an e-mail stating that they do not have the power to remove it from the records (CUE). They advised me to contact their insurers which I have done over the past 4 years. SAGA has admitted that they are NOT INSURERS therefore they are just BROKERS and that is why they are more expensive as they have to have their cut of the premium. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AS THEY HAVE NO POWERS OVER YOUR INSURANCE”
“My car insurance was up for renewal and saga renewed the policy and took a payment out of my account..I am having great difficulty getting that money back so I will now also be cancelling my saga home insurance so this cannot happen again”
“Wanted to upgrade insurance to new car. Price being offered was 2 times cost of competitive quotes. Would not even cancel existing policy without a £50 fee.”
“Shocking. Bombarded every month with letters quoting £194 premium then when I called they asked for over £400!
Renewed with Tesco for £198.
Seem to prey on older trusting demographic in the hope that they use price comparison sites.”
“If you are thinking of moving home, don't insure your car with Saga. They will charge you over £100 extra to change your address, even if you are moving to a lower risk area. There is no point in questioning the extra cost as they are not interested as they have you over a barrel.”
“Tried ripping me off because l changed…
Tried ripping me off because l changed my car, wanted to increase the policy from £450 to £998, JUST BECAUSE YOUR OVER 50 WE ARE NOT DAFT!!!!!”
“Took out 3 year home insurance with Saga unfortunately they use Covea. My roof was damaged by wind and storm damage confirmed by two independent roofing companies who recommended claiming from insurance. Covea sent an assessor who was totally uninterested took pictures of the roof from the ground. Wrote an almost unreadable reason for refusing claim as incorrect mortar used. Not taking samples or going up on roof. Based on his report the claim was rejected twice not taking into a count we had 70 pH winds in the last two months The roofing company said if the winds were not so bad the tiles would still be there so nothing to do with wear and tear. Reading the financial ombudsman guidelines I am now appealing with them I thought Saga would use companies that were age friendly. I was asked to confirm his decision by saying yes on his phone, even though I had no idea if he was right of wrong. So my advice check who Saga are using to cover you. This has been a very stressful 3 weeks.”
“having spent hours searching the different options of river cruises iwith Saga, I decided to phone their number to request information on the cabins. My first call resulted in me holding on for 14 minutes before I became rather angry. I made a coffee and called again and have now been holding on for 20 minutes with no answer. This is NOT good service.”
“I took out buildings insurance I paid by direct debit each month never missed a payment , sold the house and rang saga girl was too busy trying to flog me car insurance which wasn’t even due questioning not relevant to call , conveniently forgot to tell me on the phone that I would incur a charge (sharp) a week later got a bill for £50 odd pound for cancelling , explained I didn’t own the property so no need for insurance ? Won’t be using saga again or recommending them either .Enjoy my £50 hope it’s worth it losing a customer 😡”
“I simply cannot recommend Saga, as when I took out my car insurance policy, I specifically asked the question regarding when I swapped my Mercedes for an electric car, whether it would be any problem to carry on with it. Saga saiid no problem,
Yet when I asked for my insurance cover to be swapped over to an electric model, they told me categorically no. Further remarking that Saga does not insure electric cars and promptly cancelling my insurance.
Quite simply disgraceful!!”
“I have just looked at your "quotation" £617.00 to insure my 2012 one litre Ford Focus! Your statement about "a special service for the over 50s" is rather a hollow statement! Obviously designed to whoo the er, ah, let's say the more "challenged" amongst we "oldies"!
I also have a top of the range Mercedes AMG 3.5 liter convertible. The insurance for that is £355.00 and that is EXACTLY the same insurance requirement/specifications. The exception being no NCB on the Focus. I am obviously the same age, I have NEVER had or caused a car accident in 50 years. The cars are both kept at my home. Neither is driven in busy times, both are kept in good condition, no one else dives either! I will probably do less than 2000 miles using both cars!
Perhaps you, or one of your "consultants" can explain (in a way that is sensible) why there is such a ridiculous disparity?
PS: I forgot to mention I have now taken out a policy at £232.00 for Exactly the same insurance as you quoted £617.00..makes you think doesn't it?
I look forward to your prompt reply
Thanks, in advance”
“I'll tell you 2 stories:
1. My car was parked on a public road in 2020 when it was hit by a TfL bus. I provided the video footage showing clearly how my vehicle was damaged, time, date etc. My car was a complete write-off. Saga investigator was unable to identify the responsible company (how can you find Transport for London in London?) so they deducted the excess and paid the difference.
2. My second car was parked outside my house when it was hit by a Tesco delivery van. Saga made dozens of excuses (it takes a long time to watch the video, they can't find it, they can find it but they can't open it, IT people are not available, they need 2 weeks to investigate etc.). They told me also that they have just one investigator who is off work so I contacted Tesco, obtained the information and passed all that to Saga. Do you think they followed that? Err... I suspect they will not be able to find Tesco either.
So you are wondering whether you should insure your vehicle with Saga? If you are looking to throw your money away and receive shoddy, substandard service, look no further.”
“I will never use SAGA again for anything, nor will I recommend them to friends , family or colleagues absolute rip off, over the years I have had Landlord insurance with them , I recently sold a property and rang them to cancel the buildings cover. No problem all quick and efficient and the chap said he will also cancel my Direct Debit , no mention of anything outstanding. Then I get a Bill for over £40.00 , when I call them it seems they have shafted me with a hidden or very small print cancelation Fee ! Their telephone customer satisfaction survey is also a con , they ask you to select between 0 and 10 , 10 being you would recommend highly and 0 being that you wouldn't recommend. It seems the automated service doesn't like or acknowledge negative responses and then cuts you off ! so no wonder they get excellent reviews that's all the survey will accept. Sharp practices all around , AVOID !!!”
“As usual, Saga tried to increase my premium this year despite no claims for 18 years. An increase from £257.39 to £292.89 = 13.79%. When challenged, the sales assistant dropped the price by £8.
I’ve had enough. I’m off elsewhere.”
