“The Shade is a wonderful concept and I love the way my hair feels and looks after I have colored it. You get everything you need in the delivery, however a suggestion would be to make available an order for roots only. I feel it is a massive waste when I actually need to do my roots only.”

Dear Cherie, As per the email I sent you yesterday, I sent an enquiry to Australia Post, and they are trying to locate your parcel. You ordered your parcel on July 22nd and we dispatched it the same day. “Slightly disappointed as the grey coverage isn’t long lasting for me, even with the extra developer for pre-softening. I’m currently 3 weeks in and I can see most of my greys have returned. Colour started coming off gradually pretty much since the first wash. My colour was Dark Golden Brown, and like most other reviews, I found it to be darker than I expected. Under sunlight though it’s nice. The good thing is because it’s a subscription, it forces me to colour regularly to cover my greys. It also didn’t cause any irritation on my very sensitive scalp.”

“I was expecting a better outcome to be honest. I used the softener before the colouring process and the outcome was still not very good. The greys are still evident and the color didn’t take to them enough like the advertisements. The shampoo and conditioner smelled lovely. The packaging of products wonderful. I was very hopeful of a better outcome.”

“The colour was much darker than it looked on the colour chart and now as a result I am left with really dark hair that I hate. I would love to get rid of the dark hair and try a lighter colour but other than going to the hairdressers which in Victoria I can’t do I am at a loss as what to do. Anything you could do to help? I would love to stay with your product because it left my hair lovely and soft and I do believe if I could get the right colour it could be good. I have written to the help page but no one replied. Hi Ros, Thanks for getting in touch. Our colourists received your enquiry on May 19th, and within an hour they replied with the following email: Hi Ros! Thanks for getting in touch and I hope you are well. Yes, Roma 4.3 is a very dark colour, so I would expect that you would get a very dark result from that colour. We do offer personalised colourist support to help with colour selection 7 days a week, so please do ask for help, and it is preferable to ask for help before you order a colour. As you already have colour in your hair, you would need to do a lightening process to lift out the darker colour pigments that are currently in your colour to achieve a lighter colour result, because colour cannot lighten pre-coloured hair. You can lighten your colour by doing a bleach wash at home. This is quite quick, easy and very effective, but bear in mind that you can’t recolour for 2 days and your hair will probably be a bit brassy (lightening does that) during that time. The upside is that when you recolour you will have a lighter base level and you can then comfortably achieve a lighter colour level and the bleach washing process will lift out all the darker pigments which are currently in your hair. We offer Bleach Wash Kits which include everything you need to bleach wash your hair, which will effectively and quickly lighten your base colour. They are $17.95 and include bleach powder, developer, Colour Protection Shampoo and Conditioner and gloves as well as detailed instructions. To add Bleach Wash to your order, go to the Shop page, scroll down until you find the Bleach Wash Kit, and you can then add that to your order. A bleach wash is gentler than a standard lightening process, but it will dry your hair and we recommend that you do some leave-in conditioner or oil treatments before and after bleach washing to restore moisture and condition to your hair. Please bear in mind that sometimes people need to repeat the bleach wash process to lift out all the darker pigments in their hair before they can recolour with a lighter colour. When you lighten your hair secondary tones which are natural present in the hair are always revealed and these can significantly impact the final colour finish, due to the natural contributing pigment. It is best to choose a cool based colour after lightening as the cool tone will counter-act and neutralise the unwanted warmth that is revealed during lightening. We recommend selecting a colour lighter than your colour goal after a lightening process, because you are likely to get a slightly darker colour result as the bleach wash temporarily increases porosity. After you have lifted out the darker colour pigments in your hair with a bleach wash, a good colour options for you would be Montecristo 6.1 Light Ash Brown which has a light brown base colour and cool Ash secondary tones which will counter-act and neutralise the warmth that is revealed during lightening. You can update your colour in "My Account' and if you wanted to add the bleach wash kit, you can go to the 'Shop' page and add that from there. “This is a great product. Not only is it super easy to mix up and apply it seems to be no drip. The barrier oil means NO colour on my skin. Even my hairdresser doesn’t manage that. And my hair feels and looks so healthy soft and shiny. So many compliments. And all without the need for an appointment. I’m a convert. And so are the friends I’ve recommended it to.”

“Terrible. Colour darker than shown on web site. Awful smell. My hair turned out almost black when the shade was right brown. Uninterested "customer support". My question about colour being dark was removed from Facebook. Nearly two weeks later and my hair looks disgusting. Dry and fake and black has now faded to dark orange and fark brown. I have never been so disappointed and upset with my hair in my life. I advise anyone reading, please don't consider trying this.”

Our colour numbering system is the ICC system, which is the same one used by L'OReal and other major brands, so those levels match *eg. a level 3 by L'OReal is the same as our level 3, etc), although the names of the colour may be different. So those are the two options for a lighter colour - not using a lighter colour over your current colour, which unfortunately will not be effective.
