The company directed us to a scam local provider (BT car rental in Sofia airport). When our deposit was detained for a month, they provided no actual help in retrieving it. After we've involved the credit card company, the local provider finally responded (a MONTH after!) and suddenly claimed unreasonable fees, which again the company have taken no care to cancel. The cheap price is not worth the lack of service - you can book with the local provider directly just the same at your own risk.

I booked a car through the rentalcars.com biggest mistake ever when i got dusseldorf Germany airport the sixt car hire company told me the haven't received any money from the rentalcars.com it's not been paid even the supervisor showed me online there's no booking but the rentalcars.com took money out of my account now they are trying to blame me as a customer for their own stupid mistakes failing to send money and the booking information to the rental company sixt i got told if i want a car i have to pay over €500 i will not give up until i get every single penny this rentalcars.com company shouldn't be allowed do any business because this company rubbing customer's in broad daylight and think they can get away with it. Ive emailed requesting a full refund but they said i should of cancelled my car and the cancellation fee is the money i paid for the car?! They stole my money, made me 2 hours late for brothers wedding then had to go rent another car and enterprise car rental so more expense paid out. Somebody should stop this company as they are scammers and just steal money.

USA, Car paid 2x, no refund USA. Out credit card was declined, because the tried to charge EUR 3500 instead of EUR 300, which was clearly stated in the contract and TC. This was over the card limit. We had to use a second card to book/pay a second card, to not be without car on the airport. That was 2x EUR 1800 paid. Rentalcars did not refund the firts booking. We were not able to reach any customer support. They kept 100%. We issued a claim with the credit card company and succeeded. They charged rentalcars back and refunded us. Way to go!

The flight was delayed, I arrived later than planned, the rentalcars service worked very slowly, I couldn't even get to the consultant after waiting in line for 2 hours. Tired from the flight, I chose to go by bus. After all that happened I was refused a refund. Would not recommend this company to anyone

I'm still waiting a refund of 158,76 euros for a car hire never received because the rental company didnot have any availability on my arrival and I had to rent a new one from another car rental company. Although I have sent the rent a car documentation that they were not able to deliver the car, Rentalcars.com never refund me with the amount paid via credit card.

Absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with! I asked for a price match in their online form. They didn't get back to me. I called and asked for it again. Was promised to get an email about it in 48 hours. They didn't get back to me. I called and asked again. They still didn't get back to me. When I was picking up the car the operator showed me her system which said that I should get a 25% discount. After my rental finished I raised a case to get my discount providing all the proof. They refused to give me the discount, claiming that it was some error. Very unprofessional behaviour and I am very disappointed.

Avoid! It’s a scam! Don’t be fooled by the cheap online price. It’s a broker, it doesn’t give your as much service/ protection when your book through car hiring company, especially when it comes to refund. Once you made your booking and paid by credit card, they will not give your money back under any circumstances. If you have time an energy to read and analyse all the fine prints and are ok with that then go ahead. They bury everything in there to make sure they can make you pay extra or not to refund you. Don’t buy their insurance on their website either, it’s a total duplicate with the car hiring company.

Booked a car via Rentalcars.com which directed me Thrifty rentals for a small car pickup at the airport in Lanzarote. On rental cars.com website clearly states debit/credit card will be needed for the hold deposit. When we arrived to collect the car which we paid for online Thrifty wouldn’t accept our debit card for use. Only once your booking is made, does thrifty in there T&Cs state they only accept credit card. Too late then as booking already made. Two week for a refund if cancelled, as we made the booking within 48hr of pickup we now lost £75. Through no fault of our own. RENTALCARS.COM should really change their wording as it’s highly incorrect. Fuming with the service we received. Will never use again or recommend to literally anyone. Turns out Thrifty is THEE only company used via Rentalcars.com that DO NOT accept debit cards. Even if you have far more than the hold value required.

Truly unbelievable experience. Naive of me to think scams like this don’t exist in America. “No hidden fees” but when you go to pick up the vehicle there’s loads of hidden fees. If you want to use your own insurance, they charge you $20 per day, then a $2500 deposit on top of that strictly because you want your own insurance. Attempt to make that payment, they do not accept American Express. They don’t accept debit. They don’t accept cash or check. Don’t have a $2500 line of credit available on your card? You’re not allowed to split the $2500 deposit on 2 cards, only 1 card full payment accepted. Want their insurance? $500 for 6 days plus an additional $500 deposit. I paid for a car seat, get there and they don’t have car seats, had to go to target and buy a car seat. They didn’t have the size vehicle we rented so we got downsized. When I asked about money back for the downsize, they said they would need to book a new rental, and the rates of the smaller vehicle are HIGHER than what we already have booked because of the timing. Incredible, unethical, infuriating. To boot, unlike every other rental service that gives unlimited miles for your week vacation, they only allow 50 miles per day, 15 cent per mile charge for every mile over. Never again in my life. I’ll spend more money (barely) with Hertz or Enterprise and have peace of mind

Avoid this rental company at all costs. !!! I booked a vehicle online at 11pm friday and payment for the booking was taken from my card. I then received notification that they would block €1600 security deposit on my card, which I was not made aware of prior to the booking. Tried to cancel and an almost 50% charge applied to my refund. They quoted me the cancellation policy of charges for bookings within 48hours, but I booked inside that timeframe. Customer service is poor and their answer to your query is simply read you the cancellation policy. Then read you a feedback for custom service performance gargon . AVOID AVOID AVOID .

I had a car booked in Costa Rica and 24 hours before arriving they cancelled the booking. They offered a replacement that was 2x more expensive without any kind of compensation from the unilateral cancelation

Had a car booked and paid for at the airport. Provided all the documentation required and had the booking cancelled at the counter because I didn't have the start date on my licence. All Australian licences don't have start dates. No refunded was provided so paid for a car I didn't receive. The customer service process is horrible as they won't protect the customer. Better off booking direct with the rental car company or a more reputable website. Had the worst experience ever. Nothing like coming off an international flight with family to find your rental car cancelled with no refund. All this in the midst of the worst earthquakes in turkey.

Do not use this company. They lack integrity, I ended up paying double what their system was showing as "total price". Their contracts include hidden charges, which you will find out about at the rental counter at collection point. Customer service is awful, unhelpful and rude. Avoid like the plague, use another company!

Had an operator tell me I would get a refund, followed their advice, yet when I emailed them about the status of the refund afterwards, they then used some loophole to withdraw full responsibility and refused to pay me back...Instead of being able to support my very ill grandfather in the hospital, I was having to sent documents back and forth to no avail and then believe it or not, despite their dishonest and injust practices, they had the guts to wish me a 'good day' after saying they were gonna keep/steal my 91 euros.

HORRIBLE! I pre paid through rentalcars.com. When I returned the vehicle, Payless charged me again... FOR SOMEONE ELSES RESERVATION!!!! I PROVIDED ALL THE DOCUMENTATION... both companies say 'you have to contact them' And now both Payless and Rentalcars.com refuse to refund me anything. I AM NOT LETTING THIS GO!!!

After a long flight there was no at the airport to meet us. After many phones calls a courier turned up in a van about 45 mins after we were waiting to take us somewhere else. When we got to the office of sixt that were provding the car they told us we had no insurance and had to 360euros on insurance. Tired after a long flight and 2 small children we tried to argue the point but we ended up paying it too argue the point on the return of the car. When we returned the car they shrugged and said that the broker rentalcars.com do not give them information and to take it up as a complaint. I have done this both to rental cars and with sixt and enither are willing to accept blame and issue a refund for either the insurance we had taken out at £110 or the one paid at the airport. In either case we will never use SIXT or rentalcars.com. we left completely ripped off.

Winter Tyres!!! Booked online, it said winter tyres included. At the airport in Geneva, no winter tyres. Instead they charged me 80 Euros to rent some snow socks which are about as useful as a chocolate fire guard. It is a requirement by law in France to have winter tyres fitted, why are they sending their customers in to the mountains with summer tyres. Tried to get a refund and a answer from them, they don't care one bit, complete scammers. Do not trust this company, they are substandard and fraudulent.
