Sat at service station NOW for 8 hours waiting for RAC recovery. Lousy communications, texts misleading, phone lines not answered .Dreadful. Formal complaint to be made.

Don’t want to even give you a 1 more -1 My Mrs broke down at 8am this morning and has been lied to all day on the phone by staff. Now at 6pm she has just been told no one can get to her till 10pm this evening. What an absolute disgrace I’m with the AA and so will she tomorrow morning. Shame on you for taking her money and not giving her a service. Trading standards need to take a look at you.

I am 72 yrs old and was driving on my own when a red warning came on the car dashboard saying ‘low oil pressure stop immediately’ I pulled over and parked in a street 3 miles from home. I thought I was a RAC member so called them, they said it would be about 3 hours as they were very busy. After about 15 minutes I was so cold that I decided to leave the car there and get a taxi home. I called RAC and cancelled the callout, they accepted I didn’t need their services and the next morning I arranged for a local garage to fix my car. I checked my bank account the next day and saw that RAC had taken £161.25 from my account. Ok I accept I had wasted at most 15 minutes of their time but £161.25 !! Tried their complaints phone number but it wasn’t working. The sad thing is I have had my car insurance with the RAC for few years but forgot to get breakdown cover as only drive local.

At the beginning of December, we had an extremely cold snap in the south east. It was literally freezing. My car broke down at 10:30am. I reported my breakdown at 12pm and was told I would be rescued before 4pm. Just to add, I am diabetic. I had no food, water or medication with me as I had simply popped out to run an errand. I told the RAC this and was told that I was a medical priority and they would get someone to me ASAP. Long story short, by 10:30pm I decided to defer my rescue for the following morning. Told to be with my car by 8am and someone would be with me very soon after. 9:30am a mechanic finally arrived. He was lovely, followed me to a local garage and dropped me home with the contact number for onward travel. I made 4 different phone calls to 3 different departments trying to get them to honour my 3 day car hire. They gave me one day car hire and a £50 cheque for my delayed wait... I didn't want the £50, I wanted the hire car! After more phone calls and many tears, they finally agreed to the hire car my policy included! The absolute worst experience I've ever had. I have been posting on Facebook about their poor service and now they are threatening me! What a wonderful company 🙄

The breakdown service team needs to improve their service, first they are not accurate to find out what the car problem is, secondly they promised to come and take the car away to the garage, the person couldn’t turn up because he was off the night shift before, he can’t make it because the garage close soon, we took time off to waiting for them coming, they just keep changing the time to come and at the end they told you they couldn’t make it need to change another day, we waited another day keep calling him but not answering, very frustrating, during this breakdown service and it’s first time we use RAC breakdown service, it wasn’t pleasant at all.

What a Rip-off RAC (Rip-off Automobile Club) If you're a member of the RAC, you may have heard it referred to as the "Rip-off Automobile Club". Unfortunately, this is due to the club's reputation for selling misleading policies, and upgrades, overcharging and not honouring the commitments to its customers. It's important to do your research before committing to any service, so make sure you're getting the best value for your money. I have been a member of the RAC breakdown service since 2016, with legal plus and tyre replacement upgrades. Although I have only had to use their services on four occasions in seven years, I was left disappointed with their performance. During the first incident, my car broke down on an M2, and the RAC mechanic who attended diagnosed the fuel pump as the issue. He tried to force start the vehicle until the battery went flat, even after I asked him to recover the car to my home as garages were closed. When I called a mobile mechanic to fix the problem, he discovered that the timing belt was broken and found further damage caused by the RAC mechanic trying to force-start the vehicle with the broken timing belt. I ended up spending more to get it fixed. I also tried to use their optional services for legal plus, key replacement, and tyre replacement on three occasions, but they told me that incidents were not covered. Despite the policy document they sent me not excluding the incidents, they maintained a separate policy document that excluded them. I raised complaints for each incident, but RAC ignored them or responded after their eight-week deadline, failing to provide the Ombudsman's contact details to take it further. Today, I called them for help with an issue, and they told me it was not covered, despite paying for full breakdown cover, which included nationwide recovery. They left me with a flat tyre and asked me to arrange for my garage to fix it. They couldn't find any clause in their policy that said my issue was not covered, even after searching for 20 minutes. The only thing they found was an old policy that I didn't purchase, as I have a new policy. I found my experience with RAC frustrating, as items that were initially covered under my policy suddenly became not covered when I needed them. Before buying any of their services, I asked RAC about what was covered and what wasn't. For example, when I looked into Legal Plus, I asked if it covers general consumer disputes, employment issues, and car-related disputes, and they assured me it did. Unfortunately, every time I needed to use one of these services, I was disappointed with RAC's performance, leaving me stranded in difficult situations.

If I could give 0 stars I would . Car broke down 2 days waiting for tow track to arrive. Lucky the car was at home in my drive. No communication whatsoever, costumer service inexistant,nobody cares, many phone calls to ear every time that the time of collection had been postponed, zero apologies. Eventually cancelled the tow truck and used a small private company and solved the problem within 2 hours. This people are ruthless thieves , stay well away from them.

No no no no no no absolutely terrible service . They left my dad in his car in 50 degree heat today in perth for 5 hours . A few months ago my mums brakes failed they kept saying they were coming and never showed up they left my friend for 13 hours 25 hours later tgey still hadn't showed up . Avoid at all costs . Green flag are the best.

Car still in situ after 25 hours and still not rescued!!!! Written off tyre and probably steering damage due to pothole. This is a mobility car with a blue badge driver. Quoted 7 hours to attend! WHAT TYPE OF SERVICE IS THIS.? Got a lift home and agreed to leave until next day am. That became another hour 4x and patrolman eventually arrived at 3.10pm. He was great - shame about the company he works for. Appalling service especially when dealing with a disability ♿ driver.

Phoned them at 11pm.to tell them online my car wouldn't start due to.steering lock message on dashboard. They said they would be coming out between 2 4 then 3-5 and now 7-9 !!! I don't think I will be renewing my breakdown cover with them.

Have been with the RAC for 20 years, and only ever used them a handful of times in that period of rac membership. At renewal each year for past few years now they keep hiking up the price, always managed to get them to keep it at last years price. Not this year, they would not budge and quite frankly the person i dealt with was indifferent, cold and frosty on the phone. They have a take it or leave it attitude. so much for customer care. it no longer exists. Not what i expected and certainly not the organisation they used to be. They do not reward loyalty and now feels like they are just about making money. Read the other reviews, that people have experienced. so i went with start rescue, much more competitive and which recommended. don't waste your time and money and go elsewhere after doing your research.

I had a smell in the cabin & an engine light came so I called RAC at 2.30pm. Thankfully I had just got home when I noticed this. I kept getting updates for call outs which increased by 2 hours every so often. By 8pm I was getting fed up so rang them & rearranged the call-out for the following day at their suggestion. I did explain that I had an early appointment the following day so the advisor stated the call-out would be after 11am. Whilst I was at my appointment guess what?! the RAC called! I was really annoyed. I rang to complain. I had a call from the resolutions team (right 😂) & the women was so rude she totally got the wrong end of the stick & kept talking over me. Again it was 4pm by this time no one had called & I was told I had been a priority for hours. I rang again later as I stopped getting any updates & spoke to another advisor who also talked over me. I ended up having the guy Mark call out at around 8.30pm & he was really helpful. Overall I can’t believe how INCOMPETENT this company is!! It was stressful as I’m totally reliant on my car & have a son with complex needs. It seems my experience is nowhere near as bad as the other customer reviews I’m reading on here! I will be cancelling my policy. Last year I broke down, lone female in a deserted car park they took 5 hours to arrive!! DISGUSTING SERVICE RAC YOUR NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!

Has got to be 1 of the worst companies to.deal with. Vehicle changeover Called this morning to instuct change of Vehicle. Reg number given at start 9f phone call. Increased premium which I expected. All gone through. Checked app few hours later to see old car but new reg. Called to get this rectified to be told we can insure the new vehicle. But we have charged your account just over £500. Absolute shambles. Would help if we had advisor's who could speak fluent English not some illegal immigrants

Absolutely terrible service I use these for my work vans, my employee and animals were left road side for 9hrs, when calling for help I was told and I quite there is nothing that can be done. I will be cancelling and only telling people how bad the service is. 9hrs waiting on the road side is disgusting

Forced off edge of road by oncoming car who was on wrong side of road who failed to stop couldn’t get reg front tyre side wall torn modern cars don’t have spare wheels so called RAC who I have been a member of for 20+years only to be told to call my car insurance to get recovered as it was a road traffic accident all I needed was a tyre replaced so called local garage in that area they came straight out took wheel got new tyre fitted no problem will not be rejoining again

Bitterly disappointed. 78 Yr old lady , her car still resides in a town car park , as yet unseen by RAC who were alerted yesterday . Two unfruitful trips to said car park where RAC failed to appear as promised. 2nd trip last night with a 50 minute wait with no show. Poor service at best .
