Their own claims officers can’t interpret the pds how are we supposed to. Their definition of fire damage is also shocking! Does not include damage caused by smoke, heat, ash or other toxic substances caused by fire which is likely to constitute a significant part of your claim. Buyer Beware!

RAC sold me a battery which failed after 8 months of a 4 year warranty but there is no way to make a claim. The phone number on the warranty (0800 828282) is out of action and attempting to get through to a new number has failed.

Don’t put your money or trust into this company who only has one job which is to come and help you when you break down! They do not help, let alone recover you!

Car broke down at 8.30pm on the M40 motorway. 3 hours later and still no confirmation of a time when they can get here. They have said about 4-5 hours wait time. Lady driver on her own - this service is totally unacceptable. By the time I get home I will have been up all night stranded in a car on my own - really scared

I would like to share my experience with RAC recovery service. We are with RAC, as members, for 2 years. We used their service for the first time on 7th December 2021. And they made it the worst day of the year! Early morning on 7th December I was dropping my wife to the airport. We left our house 4 hours earlier before the flight (meanwhile my 3 children were waiting for me at home to be dropped off to school). There was 15 minutes left till Luton Airport when we punctured our car tire. It was flat and that happened at 6:30am... We reported to RAC at 6:45am and we were told that help would come between 20 minutes to 2 hours. Now to make a shorter story: that time was enough to catch my wife's flight! We waited 5 hours for help but no one arrived!!! We missed the flight and I had to take a day off work (£150). My friend helped us at his own price (£90). In the tire shop I paid for a new tire £130 and I was left in a bad mood for the rest of the day. I made an official complaint to RAC and the answer I got from them was very disappointing. They said it was my own decision to leave the place of accident (after 5 hours of waiting!!!) and they refused to cover any of my own expenses which they should cover in 100% in a situation like this!!! That will be the last journey with this company because I can't trust the them anymore...

My daughter had a blow out on her tyre in the middle of no where, called them at 10.20 pm they said they would be there in the next few hours, called back at 1.30 am they said they might not be able to get there until after 3.30 am that's if she's lucky, luckily a taxi was driving past and saw her and helped, RAC you should be ashamed of yourselves, your ok taking the money every month but didn't bother turning up when you were needed, Shame on you, never again would I use this company, absolute f@@king joke you are,

Opportunist Con Artists- not fit for purpose. 15 Minutes to answer emergency breakdown line - TWICE! (same person - so ONLY person?..). Fuel contamanation not covered in small print and ridiculously opportunist charges to rectify... To tow car was also not covered for this even though it is clearly a breakdown.

As with others minus stars would be better. Called them at 21:20 last night explained no headlights were working except beam. Was told someone would be out within 2 hours and explained I was lone female in an unknown area. Said they would prioritise big joke 3 phone calls later already exceeded the 2 hours getting cold a man turned up with a recovery lorry, not a tow truck. He then explained he couldn't actually look at the car as he has no qualifications and was just a mover. They just forgot to tell him where he was moving me to so when I explained it was 70 miles away he said he only does local. Contacted Rac again took 20 mins to answer now midnight and getting colder snotty person on the phone tells me their agent has assessed the vehicle and can't fix it. How can an unqualified person assess a vehicle? Doesn't even know where to look for fuses. Not his fault and he did the best he could under the circumstances. Rac then proceeds to blame the contractor and tell me it will take 4 to 5 hours for a recovery vehicle because the unqualified lorry driver can't fix it. Absolutely ridiculous and not what I'm paying for wasn't going to wait that long in a city I didn't know so had to take my chances and blind everyone with my beam on. I pay for peace of mind and this wasn't it will be cancelling the whole families memberships and looking elsewhere. It's the second time in 13 months I've used them and the first time was a bad experience also. Faulty alternator so he wanted to charge me over £200 to put a new battery on. I'm no mechanic either but even I know the new battery wouldn't charge if the alternator is faulty. Offered to charge my battery while he followed me half way home but he didn't have time to follow me the full 45 miles because he was busy. Disgraceful service and I must be paying at least £500 a year for everyone to be covered.

Fleet policy and in the last 5 breakdowns over 5 year period never had a wait of less than 5 hours for a patrolman to arrive. Worst case was driver finally getting a taxi home after 12 hours. Will be changing companies this time as another member of company had to go out to driver and sit with his engine running for over 2 hours to warm the other driver up

If you feel you don't get enough time sitting in your car for hours upon end on a layby then the RAC are the boys for you. They'll also send you a lovely message every thirty minutes explaining they have no time frame for you 👌 If on the other hand you don't like waiting 5hrs plus hours with no ETA or real communication I would strongly recommend the AA. Another car broke down next to mine after me, and the AA not only tried to repair the car but when unable to called a second vehicle and towed it all with 90minutes.

My work colleague broke down today in his van . He has had the worst service ever, left stranded on the motorway in the freezing cold for over 8 hours , eventually been towed to services by a 3rd party the RAC Arranged and now awaiting the RAC to recover the van and himself . I’ll be suprised if he’s not ill with the amount of time he’s been stood in the cold today . The call was made to the RAC around 2pm today and he was only collected 10.30pm from the M1, taken to services and made to wait for the RAC to come back for him. It will be after 1am by the time he’s home . This really gas been the worst service ever . I felt so strongly that I had to write something as a review as I have been worried about my friend all day being out in this weather. The RAC advisor had originally said somebody would be with him within 45 minutes further calls lead to additional hours and further calls still lead to more lies being told. I am particularly upset about this because I myself have recently taken out a policy with the RAC for my own vehicle and the very thought of being treated this way really makes me very anxious. Wish i had stayed with the AA And will certainly be looking into switching back to another service.

My son came to visit us during the Xmas break but unfortunately his car wouldn't start so we called the RAC They made every excuse going and kept changing the time of their arrival. We had to go out for a booked meal so rearranged it for the next day. No one turned up but after checking cctv the patrol man turned up but didn't knock and drove off after 5 mins We rearranged it for the next day and after being told 2 to 3 hour wait they turned up 8 hours later and by then my son had to get back home to go to work so I lent him my car. As my son wasn't here they refused to look at the car and drove off. How do they expect someone to wait with their car for THREE DAYS without needing to get home to family and work

RAC auto renewed my breakdown on a car I no longer own with no warning. I got a text 3 days later telling me it had autorenewed. No pre warning. I had to register and logon to see the renewal cost was £145 which was double last years price of £75!!! They assume you won’t bother checking . I have 14 days to cancel but have to pay a £25 cancellation fee and can’t cancel for the next 4 days as it’s Christmas and they are shut. Disgusted. Update 01.01.2022 - received an email from the compaints department. They will not refund my £25 as it clearly states in the small print it automatically renews. Not surprised but feel feel cheated. I will never use RAC again.

If I can add a minus in front I would, 6 calls, 2 days waiting for them to Tow the car to a garage, and 12 automated text messages saying they on their way, only been waiting 5 hours! No way is this acceptable and the staff are so rude.

I KNOW IS EVERYBODY STRUGLING DURING COVID TIMES BUT INCOMPETENCE IS THE SAME AT ANY TIME! I've got driver broken down on M4 and waiting for seven hours and recovery time just being added and added. Just been advised by one of numerous advisers I spoke during the day that only three hours later RAC passed my case to correct Commercial department even when I insisted on first call that van is long wheel base and must be handled by appropriate recovery vehicle. This is third instance during 2020 where RAC can't process it call out correctly and never made recovery vehicle to arrive in less that six hours. What can I say - BOOOOOOOO! Time to call AA update 8.5 hours still waiting! Miracle!!! we started 1:10pm and 21:37pm recovery truck arrives. 22:05pm celebrated too early as recovery truck has problem with platform and can't load van up :( 22:13pm van loaded up and driver in the taxi over three hours until gets home. to be continued tomorrow, we will see how RAC will manage to get van to designated address two hundred miles away as promised. I wonder does anyone @ RAC look at customers feedback? Thank you Conor for noticing my feedback. The recovery ordeal is not finished as yet. All though driver after many hour waiting on M4 has been taken home by taxi I'm still waiting for RAC to advise when van will be delivered back to us. I hope at least this part of service will be without delays. ***Two days later, I'm wrong as van still not delivered and it will not be delivered over the weekend. So looks that recovery will go in to day 5! GREAT SERVICE RAC! ***

We waited over 5 hours, and abysmal customer service and misinformation whilst stuck in a car with 2 children with special needs in the freezing cold, they lied when they asked where they were and told us they would be 15 minutes for and took 2 more hours. To clarify we were parked on double yellow lines and were blocking a fire exit. When the only thing wrong with it was the battery and took about 10 mins to fix! Also tried to offer us a battery for £229 which is way overpriced and exploitive.

It's a shame you can't give negative stars! It looks as if my experience waiting over 3 hours with no communication is normal for them. Not to mention the abysmal customer service. I'll only ever go with the AA after my terrifying experience waiting for the never never. Shady company.
