Absolutely terrible service! I was involved in a car accident and my car was damaged and indriveable. I was told by RAC that recovery would be in under 60 minutes - 4 hours later, he turned up after around 5 calls with estimated time of arrival changing every time. RAC took my car and told me it would go to the repairs garage around the corner from where I was as arranged by my insurance company. Two days later, RAC have still not delivered my car to the repairs garage despite numerous calls from myself, ensure and Gemini garage. RAC is an absolute terrible service. I would not recommend. Due to their terrible service, I am still without a courtesy car as the garage need to see the car before issuing a courtesy car and I was at fault in the collision.

As I write this review I am a single woman sitting in a broken down vehicle. I was advised the wait would be no more than 90 minutes. After waiting over 2 hours I called them back only to find no one has as yet been assigned to come to my vehicle. They said they would try to get to me but cannot say when. What is the point of this breakdown cover? I am sitting here feeling very unsafe and they cannot even advise if they will be here at all? I called in at 4.15pm I am in the city of Dundee not out in the country what part of I have been a member since 2004 have paid a fortune to them over the years and the first time I need help they are not even sure if they can come the same day - will just have to sit here and hope for the best. I will Definitely never never use this company again

Absolutely no point in paying for a membership with these cowboys. Waited 9 hours for recovery only to be told when the recovery firm (3rd party) arrived that I needed to cover the cost of recovery £240!!!! Waste of time even having a membership, I could have just contacted a recovery firm directly and saved myself 9 hours.

Only seem concerned about getting the money , I have had few car problems in the last 5 years , but on two occasions phoned breakdown and was told they could not be there for 4-5 hours , so fixed car myself ! This is what they do , put you off in the hope , you go away !

Today my va6 broke down, I phoned RAC at 14.18,I was told engineer will be between 14.50 and 15.15,no sign at 15.30 I phoned again I was told it was very busy and couldn't give me ETA, breakdown engineer arrived at 5pm ,diagnosed diesel injector is short circuit, not road side repair,he suggested recovery ,its now 8pm no call from RAC,so I phoned again I was told it will 9pm for recovery truck, I'm not hopeful, let's wait and see, staff are very unhelpful and tells nothing but lies, never never never to use RAC Zor recommend to anyone else.

absolutely disgusting! Made me wait for 8 hours with 4 children (2 under 5) of which 1 is disabled. In the middle of nowhere with no food or drink and still didn't recover us! They told us they could not recover our 7 seater and 6 people in it as they had no recovery vehicle big enough and would 1 of us stay in scotland and make our own way home!!! In the end i had to get a hire car home and my car has now been is Scotland (6 hours and 300 miles away) with all our belongings in it for 4 days waiting to be recovered and brought home by the RAC! **update** apparently car left the garage in scotland at 8 am this morning... it's now 4.10pm and it's still not here and iv had no phone call since to say where they are or how much longer it's going to take. FUMING! YOU WOULD THINK RAC HAVE NEVER RECOVERED A CAR BEFORE AND THE WAY THEY TALK TO PEOPLE IS DISGUSTING!! WILL DEFINITELY BE MAKING A FORMAL COMPLAINT

appalling, left my wife and 3 year old daughter stranded on an industrial estate for 9 hours, claiming after 6 hours one of their so called technicians had driven round the whole estate looking for them and rang twice (van was never seen and my wife received just one call that lasted seconds before he hung up, i manged to get hold of him 10 minutes later to be told he had cancelled the job and it would need to be rebooked as he was already on his way to his next job). a contractor finally arrived at 11.15pm more than 4 hours after my wife and daughter had had any access to a toilet or drinking water as all the businesses had closed. avoid like the plague.

One of the worst breakdown cover, no consideration what so ever, waiting for over 2 hours and driver is still 45 minutes away. That is business cover what I am having you can imagine how they will treat normal customers. From office to driver seems all rude. Please avoid them use ABC RED etc. They dont have any driver to cover London? Seriously I have been told 2 hours ago. Driver told me he is coming all the way from Dartford. Will be leaving for sure.

My husband called the RAC at 4:30pm and was advised he would have a wait of 90 minutes, this was not so! After several phone calls from him not them........6 hours later! He decided to walk home when a third party company called wanting to come tow him home! He advised of the situation and they agreed was ridiculous and would inform the RAC for us. A) They are meant to fix your car not send a third party tow company! B) They never actually called my husband in that 6 hours, he had to chase them! Appalling service, will never use them again!

I have been a continuous member for 18 years with very few call outs. Tonight I needed recovery and it has taken 5h, I have spent hours on the phone and kept getting fobbed off and the call waiting time it ridiculous. I could understand if it were a bank holiday but it’s a Wednesday evening.

I've had RAC membership for about twenty years now. I've been fortunate in having reliable cars so they've had money for nothing throughout my tenure. However, they have delivered absolutely rubbish service both times I've had occasion to use them. The first I put down to bad luck. A six and a half hour wait for their recovery vehicle following an accident in which I suffered whiplash and was stuffed into a hedge row. RAC called a contractor instead of an RAC guy with a van to tow me home. I sat in my cold Land Rover with a frightened dog for all those hours on a cold January in 2015. I would have been there hours longer but a passing policewoman on route to her shift chased the buggers up. I had to pay the contractor. I thought it was a one off. Just bad luck. Not at all. The second time I needed them was today. My Land Rover had a wiring fault in the ignition system - I just needed it to be winched onto a truck and brought home. Only three miles - if that. I called them around six thirty in the evening.and was told a contractor would be there in about two hours as they were busy. In actual fact I was still waiting at 3.30 the following morning. Their contractor was supposed to phone me ten minutes before he was due to arrive so I could be there (I'd taken refuge in coffee). At one in the morning I'm on hold with the RAC trying to get word as to when he would arrive - he hasn't called. A full half hour on hold before I get an answer. Apparently he's been and gone - claimed he'd phoned me but that's BS. I was literally watching my phone and praying for him to ring. In the end I had to take a bag of tools out to my vehicle in the wee small hours and rummage about in the electrics with a torch. I eventually managed to get it going. No thanks to the RAC. My membership is due at the end of July. There are literally no inducements the RAC can offer to get me to carry on my membership. They could offer me the full package deal absolutely gratis as 'a gesture of good will' and I still wouldn't take it. Part of the comfort of having breakdown recovery is that you're "reassured" that if your car falters somewhere dark in the back of beyond that help is but a phone call away. Well, that was true until I actually needed them. Now I know different. If I'm broken down near a wooded area there is a greater chance of bears repopulating it and then eating me before an RAC van or a contractor reaches me. Why isn't there the option of selecting zero or minus stars? I begrudge them that one star!

We broke down in the motorhome on Saturday 29th June at 7pm in North Wales. It is now Monday 1st July, 1:30pm and we are still waiting in Cambridge services waiting to get to Stowmarket, Suffolk. We have been lied to, threatened with police action, and blackmailed by the RAC. Only today did anyone ask if we had eaten (which we barely had) and offered £20 each for food. We are stressed, tired (no sleep)and am just so glad our little dog is coping well and calm. Too much to write but all horrible. My mum is now on the phone to RAC and the call operator is now talking about something to do with the motor home being in Storage and mum could be charged for this?! We have been with the motorhome all the time?! Disgusting service

RAC please avoid!!! I have had terrible experiences with eta of 5-6 hours all the time!! They have never turned up, within the time they have said. Absolute disgrace of a company! I hope every person who reads this message boycotts this company and never wishes to use their services ever again. They have no service whatsoever and I could go on for hours about how bad the service was but I rather keep it short and sweet and say, please avoid this company at all costs. They are probably the one company that will 100% get you killed. They need to be regulated and questioned.
