“The mandatory playing of videos is aggregating. I prefer to read then move on. I ended up buying the physical guide and playing the videos without watching them just to get to test. Took much longer than necessary to complete. Have the book for the boat and quick review also now. Don't tend to haven't Internet when cruising. Sample test questions were helpful.”

“I did not like the fact that the screens were timed. If I read one ahead of time and wanted to go back to look at previous one... it started back at 0 time. It should at least be timed for the speed a regular person could read it so you are not sitting waiting.”

“The minimum page view requirements are ridiculous. I understand its regulated by the government and there are mandatory times but if they want to ensure that people get the training then make the test harder. Dont make it so i have to spend 4 hours studying for a test I can comprehend in an hour or so. Very informative and easy to use. Otherwise I would have given 1 star for the time waste. Would have gotten 5 stars if i could go at my own pace”

“My son finished the test and we made the payment, but not able to print temporary card. Said I would receive an email of my receipt. Money is already out of account, but still not email. Now every time I log in it says I need to make payment.”

Thanks for your review Megan! We understand the test can take awhile for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada (or NASBLA) to ensure all students are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. Thanks for sticking with it, and safe boating!

“I would have liked to see which answers I got wrong on the quizzes and the final test. Now I'm not sure what I know, and what I don't know! I don't want to not be following the rules while on a boat!!!”

“The material was well covered but sometimes the timer on the videos isn't correct and in one case, I had to watch a video multiple times.”

“BOATsmart was laid out in a very well organized manner and the graphics helped to understand the information. When I went to do the test, however, I found there were a couple areas on the test that were not covered in the course. In the future, it may be helpful to review all potential test questions and adjust course material accordingly to adequately cover all required material.”

Thanks for leaving a review Heather. We definitely understand the course timers can be frustrating for quick readers, but they are mandated by Transport Canada (and NASBLA) as a condition of open book and unsupervised online testing - and is the same across all course providers. Most people still find this more convenient, since they can take the online Test from the comfort of their own home. Thanks for sticking with it and congrats on passing!

Hi Debbie - thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We definitely understand that the timers can be frustrating, but they are a requirement mandated by Transport Canada and NASBLA (because the testing is online and unsupervised)- and is a requirement for all course providers. Glad you were stuck with it. We'll see you on the water this summer!
