“The only criticism would be that when you answer wrong, you are never told the correct answer, and what question you got wrong. The whole point should be to learn, so this defeats the purpose.”

Hi Candice - thanks for leaving feedback! The Pleasure Craft Operator Card is a National certification (and also accepted as proof of competency by NASBLA in the USA), so the content reflects being able to operate a boat in different environments.

“It was easy to go through however there were some things where the book and the online version were slightly different (eg what the anchor flag looks like) so when I took the test I had to guess.”

“I'm glad we went with BoatSmart for our boating course and exam. I purchased them on a 40% deal and it was well worth the money. I wanted my teen and preteen especially to learn about boat safety, not just simply challenge the test. The short animated videos in each lesson make it much more interesting than simply reading the information. One frustration was that some of the quiz questions seemed to be designed to trick you when I would have preferred for them to be simply pulled from the information you were learning. One time I did have a question asked that wasn't covered until the next module and a couple times I had the exact same question twice in a row, but all of that only pertains to the quizzes and for the most part it's laid out and designed well and as interesting as it could be while still covering all of the required information. I felt very prepared for the Boater Exam.”

“Although very informative it is longer than 3 hours. It took me an entire weekend to complete. I think you should be able to advance forward and if you fail a section you should be able to write the quiz right away without having to start the module again. Very time consuming”

“It was good but the app that you can download when you get the book dose not work I was disappointed and I read the book then I hade to read the same thing online and that took up a lot of time other then that I liked it”

“Good coverage of requisite material but it got a little dry in places. It would be good to have multiple presenters. Also, please review the visual material and make it a little more inclusive ... authority figures either law enforcement officers or those helming the watercraft are typically shown as white males. Also, although it's likely not covered by Transport Canada, would you consider adding a safe boating tip recommending flotation devices for any dogs taken on board? I can speak from experience that pulling Fido back in from the water is much easier if Fido is wearing a life jacket with a handle on its back. Most dogs can swim but they can get tired too.”
