“Very helpful course material, it made the final exam quite a breeze. Only issue I have is the ridiculously long minimum timers for each slide. Sometime I would watch the video and have to wait 10+ seconds to advance to further slides, which is annoying. Especially since you could just read the text version is less than half the time of watching the videos. Overall I'm happy I chose BOATsmart, and will recommend to friends :)”

“The Ministry's final exam asked a few questions that I did not feel were adequately covered by the course material, but given that it's an open-book/google exam, it was easy enough to find the right answers. I was frustrated by the fact that you can't copy/paste as you go through the modules, making it way harder than it needs to be to take notes. I understand that the module timers are government-mandated the first time you take the module, but being forced to stick to these timers on a second round, makes no sense at all, and BoatSmart should get the ministry to agree to remove the restriction if a person is re-taking a module. Some of the wording on the module quizzes are not consistent with the wording in the modules themselves, which can lead to confusion. All in all, it's better than doing a course and exam in-person, but it's not perfect by any means.”

“The time and quantity of material that was required to be studied was overwhelmingly; however, Boatsmart course material made it comfortable to review and articulate. Thanks to Boatsmart material, I was successful on obtaining my water craft operators certificate.”

“It was great to have the videos... I tried reading the book way back when and was just not able to get past the first module and feel like I understood the content. But the visuals helped tremendously. Some of the questions in the final exam don't necessarily use the same terminology in the course so threw me for a loop a few times (got 98% average on sample quizzes and only 88% on test)... some questions I didn't even know where to find in my notes as note the same terminology. Also, a couple times the video would be done but I would have to stay in the loop for another few seconds before being able to pass to the next lesson (but I'm talking seconds so not a big deal) but if looking for more fluidity... But all in all it was great and so glad I took the time to do it! Definitely better than trying to read the book! Thank you!”

“Content was clearly presented in a video format that was useful for a wide range of ages and attention spans. My sons (10, 14 and 18) and I did the course together over 2 sessions, and we now have our Operator Cards. We’ve finally caught up to my wife (carded since 2005!!)”

“I found the course content very good but I was quite disappointed in the layout of the final test. Having the quizzes at the end of each module helped convey the importance of boarding knowledge but I think the final test is unnecessary. You spend over 5 hours of studying and then have to try and remember your notes for this test.. Quite unexpected and wondering if this is an effective solution for you to absorb everything you need to know about boating..”
