Excellent course. Very well organized and laid out. The practice quizzes provide confidence along the way.

I was surprised at how long it took to complete each module, however I am happy that I used Boatsmart as it gave me important information on how to operate on our waterways.

I found it had a lot of very important information on first aid and safety. Didn't realize there were so many boating restriction signs. Enjoyed learning about things I didn't know a lot about like hypothermia and cold shock. It was well put together and touched on everything that you need to know about owning and operating your own pleasure craft.

Found it to be very informative, however I have a few points that i would to address. Being a sailboat owner there were no right of way information for sailboat on sailboat. I feel it would be useful to know which ones you got wrong so you are aware and not make the mistake in real life. It was a little repetitive which made it a bit long. But over all very helpful.

I found the multi media online training was excellent. Sometimes the videos didn't ply right away but eventually started working. Might be good to inform people to be patient. If you failed the quiz you had to go back and redo the whole module. It would have been more helpful to identify what questions were in error and allow one to go back to that particular lesson in the module to save time.

I have a concern that one does not learn from the tests. Tests should be learning tools and there is no feedback to the errors. How am I to know which questions I need to learn more about ? Being a retired teacher, I found it frustrating to know that I will never know which questions I got wrong on each module test and the final test. I also thought that some of the questions were written to try to trick the person taking the test. That should never happen. The objective of any test should first and foremost be to learn. I would say that the module lessons were well done and use the senses well. Pictures were very good. All in all, I am delighted to have passed and now can operate my pontoon boat. Thanks.

All the information provided in the course is extremely helpful and a great refresher as well. The quizzes at the end of each module are a great way to review what you had just learned. It's also nice that you can log off the course at any point and resume it once you're available again.

I felt as though the online course does provide a basic introduction to boating, but I cannot understand how the government thinks it provides a value to those just learning to boat, and may have never boated before. The only way to actually learn is to actually be in a boat, driving, learning the buoys, and being on the waterways. The government has THREE separate stages for beginner learners when driving a car, yet has only one online course for learning to drive a boat? Not to mention the time allocated to completing the quizzes at the end of every module is absolutely absurd! If you actually want people to learn, you have to make the time shorter so that they have to study more... 3 hours is ridonkulous!!!!

The only thing I didn't like about the course was when doing the quizzes after each module I didn't know which questions I had gotten wrong. It would be helpful to provide that because someone like myself would have went back to that section to review before moving on.

Depending on who you are, this could be a mandatory certification for a career or it could just be something you wanted to add to the resume. This is a great opportunity to acquire a license for a skill you may need somewhere down the line. Also the exam is really easy

Terrible. Just a waste of my time. 18 hours of my life I will never get back. Should review the lessons and shorten. Some stuff is intuitively obvious & unnecessarily lengthens the process. Definitely would not recommend. Will now just offer to drive my friends instead of telling them to get their license. 0/10

I did the study guide first which made doing the online course in prep for the exam much easier as they are basically the same. The quiz after each module was good, but it would be better if the quiz were in the same vein as the actual test questions. I found the test questions more convoluted vs the quiz questions. People might be better prepared to do the final test if the quiz questions were like the test questions (less straight forward).

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review Robin! We understand the course can take a while for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada (or NASBLA) to ensure all students are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. Thanks for sticking with it, and safe boating!

This program was extremely user-friendly. Some points within the modules felt out-of-place at times, kind of like receiving a quick aside, but could have been included as part of a more relevant module more effectively. Having the ability to go back and change answers within the quizzes would also be beneficial, since people often like reviewing their answers before submitting the full quiz. Email reminders were helpful to keep returning to complete modules. Also, as part of this review, what is the optional photo upload supposed to be for? It seems kind of random in my opinion. Overall a fantastic program to get people outdoors and on our beautiful waterways with confidence!

I bought the boat smart book and took the quiz there before I did the online course. That was helpful. There are a few trick questions in the online course, I don't see any value in that type of question. The book provides good reference material for the future.

The online modules were very helpful. 95 percent of the persons who write this test will never boat in shipping channels or see any ocean. There are many good points for safety and a few points that really have no place in this type of boating card. In my opinion! I am happy I used Boatsmart, it would have been much more difficult to pass the exam with out it.

Found the site easy to navigate and very informative. I like the "no rush" part of going through the chapters. After doing all the chapters I found the federal test very easy.
