“The course was well layed out. Quizzes at the end of the chapter did not tell you the correct answer if you got it wrong. If you get less than a 70% you will need to reread the chapter. A few of the final test questions were not covered in the reading material. Its a 50 question test. Although I passes the first time around with an 86% you can retake it as many times as necessary to pass. Customer service is great and easy to speak with on the phone. Please note per customer service, you can retake the final exam a second time without re-reading the material. However, if you do not pass the second time you will have to contact customer service to reset the counter and re-read all material before you can take the exam. You will get 2 more attempts before you need to reset the counter again and so on. Lastly, the questions on the chapter test are timed. You cannot go forward unless the timer says so. It adds a bit of extra time since you can't progress. Many times I found I was waiting for the count down timer to end. All in all I felt it was a great way to get the course done online and would recommend the course.”

“Overall the course was good, entertaining, and informative. there were several things that i think could have been improved to make the course better and more professional. There were many typo's in the material, the narrator made several mistakes with the printed narrative, and there was zero explanation on the various methods to listen/read each lessen. The end of module test questions were repeated within a ten question quiz, the test questions often focused on numbers that were meaningless to safe boat operation ( what % of people died via this boating accident, why is that relevant), and there was no way to know which test questions you failed, so you couldn't actually learn what mistakes you made. There was a lot of good info and I'm glad I took the course. Thanks. Mark”

“The course covered 85% of what was asked on the exam and provided me with enough instincts to respond well to the rest. The only criticism I have is that the timer restricting you from moving forward was longer than the video or sound recording that you listened to, so you sit there waiting for cometomes a whole minute before being able to move on. This make the process so much longer, and less enjoyable. The timer should not be longer than the sound recording or video. I would argue that there should be no timer at all. I can read so much faster than either so I was always waiting. I got a 90% on the exam, and I felt I did not need the restrictive timer.”

“The material was well presented. My only complaint is that there is no option to proceed directly to the test. Having spent an afternoon pouring over the study guide I did not need to wait through the online course.”

“Great course, I really enjoyed the videos which helped me visualize scenarios, however; some of the times you have to spend on each page do not align with the time required to play the videos causing me to have to stay on the page 1-2 minutes longer than the length of the video. I also really liked the opportunity to buy multiple courses at a discount, and the option to save your training progress and come back when you have more time. Thank you BoatSmart!”

“Disappointed that the program did not show the answers in the pre test exercises that were incorrectly submitted. This should be corrected so participants have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. In general the course could be shortened considerably, there was a lot of repetition from one module to another and a lot of content that was not pertinent to the type of questions asked in the final test. It was also more expensive than other similar programs which I found out after the fact.”
