“Would love to see different levels of permits available. I can nearly guarantee that I won't (and virtually every one of my land locked friends and acquaintances that I've talked to will never) operate a vessel on anything but small lakes and rivers. Most of the training and questions pertained to ocean and larger waterway operation. If you provided a choice of levels, then if anyone wanted the more extended licence they could apply for that. Also, am paranoid about "trick questions" on these things, ie: on one of the module quizzes the question was re: the colour of a diving BUOY - not the flag, but the buoy. The buoy is white (with a red flag/diagonal white stripe on top) and the only option in the answers for white was with a black stripe and that was apparently incorrect. Anyway, glad to have my permit and hope that the powers that be will consider making different levels available. Thank you..”

“The Boatsmart course was very educational but the Transport Canada final quiz did not reflect the course in the way the questions were worded. I found that after reading the study guide and doing the online course did not prepare me for the "trick" questions that could potentially have multiple answers. This was quite frustrating!”

“Having done a lot of CBT type training with my employer I was stunned to see how slow this was. I could read and process a slide in 15-20 seconds then have to sit there and watch the clock run down so I could go to the next slide. Technically it was fine but the overall time needed to get through it was in my opinion ridiculous.”

Thanks for the feedback Martin! We understand the test can take awhile for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada and NASBLA to ensure all students are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. “I learned a lot of new information from this course. My only complaint would be the online delays of Internet issues such as, buffering, and being disconnected at times. At the same time, it also is convenient doing the course at my own pace. The fact that it remembers where you left off each time is great.”

“Excellent course! There is a heck of a lot to learn but like anything if you apply yourself and want it bad enough you will get it. I had no idea about most of the information involving boating and to be honest I am glad I took this course and now I feel prepared and confident of my abilities! They say that knowledge is power and nie I feel I have more of both!! I also did the entire course on my Android phone without any problems! It was convenient and the videos loaded without any issue Thank you Boatsmart!! Dion Tarkowski”

“Took several hours to complete, practice quizzes were helpful, passed the final test easily on the first try. Mildly annoying things: being forced by the lesson timer to wait, after the video lesson had finished, before going on to the next lesson, because the timer was not synced to the length of lessons. Also, for lessons where there was no video (just audio or read it without audio) the audio sometimes stopped working and the timer required much more time than was actually needed to read the material.”
