I am writing this review as the parent of the individual who wrote this exam. In terms of the Boatsmart Exam - The course was well constructed and easy to follow. My only complaint is that it is not accessible for learners with learning disabilities. This was my son taking this course and he was unable to select text for note scribing and the speakers voice over was not available in written format. For individuals with learning differences, having the information available in alternate formats would be helpful. (scribing and text to speech programs are not able to be easily used with your existing setup) With regards to the actual Boater Exam - The boaters exam although helpful for understanding the rules etc.. is really ineffective for actual boat users. The written boat exam does not result in the capability for an individual to actually operate a boat and is very focused on large waterways. This serves a particular population but not likely the largest population of boat users which are more than likely operating smaller vessels on smaller lakes and waterways. It is for this reason that I don't support what is effectively a money grab to force "regulation". There were numerous situations on our lake this summer where boaters (with boater licenses) did not know how to actually operate the boat they were in. Additionally, safety conversations about how to ensure the weight of passengers is evenly distributed onboard - how to direct passengers to avoid suddenly switching sides of a boat - how to drive a boat when other boats are towing water skiers and tubers - how to give space to people fishing so as to not cut their line/ swamp their boat - not to allow children to hang over the front of boats - etc. etc.. These are real life boating situations which this exam does not cover. I understand this is not the issue for Boatsmart in terms of facilitating the boater exam, however as a life long boater it is all of this and more which makes me question the true usefulness of this exam.

The segments were very insightful and helped me a lot, but the time to wait to retake the end exam was too long for my liking. I was in a rush to get my license and didn't have much time given to complete it, and the waiting was too long I almost missed the deadline.

Had some technical issues that required assistance both to access site to write the exam and in getting my results. Otherwise enjoyed opportunity to learn in my own home and at my own pace.

It was good. I like the way that it made you go the material before allowing you to continue so you couldnt cheat. It was well worth it.

I found the course very helpful and essential to acquire my Operator Card. The encouraging remarks were well appreciated. As I,m steaming down Francois Lake in a fourteen foot aluminum, I probably don,t have to know how to navigate through Locks and Shipping lanes but all interesting and educational.

Not to difficult, reasonably quick to complete, and great that you can take as much time as you need and do it from home.

I found the course to be challenging. Enough so that I had to repeat a module or two while completing it. I think the course was detailed and well presented. My only concern would be that I did not retain much of the information after writing the exam. I am not sure what the fix for this would be. Perhaps its with the individual but I felt compelled to give you this honest feedback. Personally I am to further study on this but I think many individuals would not. For your consideration. Regards, Tim Sowers Fredericton, N.B.

Everything seeded to go okay. The official exam through Transport Canada was different and harder than the quizzes through BoatSmart had been. Final card was shipped quickly.

The course was way too involved for the use I am going to get out of my 12 foot aluminium boat and two Hp Honda motor on a lake. Lots of information I will never need or use but it's done. Thank you.

Awesome way to know the rules of boating and how to stay safe when driving and making your passengers aware too.

I think in my opinion there should be a couple different tests / exams . Several chapters of the test included alot of information that the average weekend fisherman / boater will never ever use ??? I think more people would get it if there was a scaled down option for the " average " person Just a suggestion Thanks

Enjoyed the choice between viewing, reading & listening to audio during the units, but would have appreciated a way to skip forward to the unit quiz after finishing reading the section, rather than waiting for the session to time out. As someone on the Pacific Coast I found the entire course much too Eastern Canada-centric ... very little information on tides, currents, etc. which are hugely important for coastal boating here and much too heavy an emphasis on navigating locks.

Great course, loved that it was online. Found it a little long, especially having to redo some of the sections. It was very easy to follow.

The test was very informative and LONG . My only complaint is that if I wanted to go over a chapter because I didn't pass that chapter ,I had to start at the beginning ..I couldn't see what I got wrong ,it got very frustrating and because I had never taken a Boating test before it took me like 2 weeks to pass .
