“Great after passing my test”

“I'm glad I took this short course I now know things I didn't know about boating.This is stuff that will always be of use to me. I also saved on the cost with the Black Friday savings. Now when my husband doesn't feel like doing all the driving I can take over thank you”

“Modules were well done- one BIG frustration was the same pop-up on the pictures for every module...had to cancel it each time! Would have liked all the questions from the exam covered in the modules. Guess that means I will need to buy the book afterall. Lengthy but modules were laid out for all learning types. Thanks! Karen”

“There is a lot of information to study for the boating licence so I was pleased there was an online course. I found the BOATsmart program to be thorough and straightforward. I kept the booklet handy as a reference guide while I took the course online.”

“Course took longer than I thought, but all in all was interesting. Black Friday discount caught my attention. Thought lets do this now and then I will be set to go in the spring. I am having problems accessing my account now. I changed my email address from Christopher.Long@ontario.ca to mandogo321@outlook.com but cannot seem to log in when I try either email address. Please advise. Still would like to review some course content. Thanks!! Christopher”

“Was a good one stop spot to get certified. However. There needs to be a system to fast forward thru stuff you already know. Would have cut time by a third. Another thing that occured a couple times is questions came up that weren’t mentioned until a following module.”

“It was a great course, very convenient and informative. The only thing I didn't appreciate was the issue with the test, I would like to know what question I got wrong! I answered the question with what I thought was right, is that not a safety issue? If I don't know is wrong, I will do it the way I remember it. Correct the wrong! Happy boating”

“I chose to buy the BOATsmart online program and exam through Canadian Tire as their $10.00 discount offer was one of the best prices I could find anywhere at $39.95 plus tax for one person. I also purchased the booklet from them as well for another $15.95 plus tax as I like to have a hard copy of material on hand for review and reference. To be honest however, I also took advantage of a couple of other PCOC programs besides BOATsmart, (i.e. Boat-ed, AceBoater, Boaterexam and freecourse etc.), as some of them gave a free online course with lots of different or varied quiz questions to practice on and then charged about $60.00 plus tax for the exam at the end. I am glad that I did it this way, as although each program was about 90% the same material, each gave a little different or a little bit more expanded information on some of the topics. Some also have live people videos vs animations which I liked. One actually gave info on "one" of the exam questions that I thought that BOATsmart could have done a better job of doing. NOTE: anyone doing the practice quizzes should redo them several times as each time there are different questions on the quiz for that chapter. No one mentioned this in their notes that I could see and I just happened to find it out for myself. They also never tell you which questions you actually got wrong. This is in my opinion a real dis-service as say on the quizzes or final exam you get a passing grade of 75%, it means you never know which 25% you got wrong which could pose a problem on the water. I also wish and would recommend to Transport Canada that the required passing grade was closer to 90% to indicate better training and knowledge. NOTE: All the exams for the various courses come directly from Transport Canada, not the company running the programs, so the questions will be the same. My guess is that the 50 test questions are chosen from a bank of some 200 plus questions that Transport Canada has on hand. However, when I did run into a somewhat significant problem, Alexandra from BOATsmart did a great job of fixing the issue for me when I phoned in for assistance, (i.e. I ended up taking the final exam twice as the first time I somehow ended on the wrong program .... not BOATsmart ... when I took the test and was asked for another payment by the other program. I ended up having to redo the test through BOATsmart. This was not BOATsmart's problem in any way, it was my mistake. I ended up however with a score of 98% on the first test and 96% when I took it the second time as each test had different questions. I believe that my marks were due to the course material and lots of study. Getting 75% is easy, getting over 90% takes some extra effort. Thanks again to Alexandra for being so patient and pleasant and for taking the time and effort to set things straight for me. All in all, I have recommended BOATsmart to my son-in-law who is also wanting to get his PCOC. I would also recommend it to others from my experience. I will however, also suggest that he or they consider taking advantage of the other free courses, (i.e. that charge more than the Canadian Tire BOATsmart program), for access to their free information and quizzes.
