It's a good course and I understand there is a lot to learn about how to be responsible when operating a pleasure craft however still, it's very long.

Overall the course was good and I did learn a few things. The only negative is that the application itself was a bit glitch. That is, in many sections of the various modules, I could not view the video, but had to rely on the audio alone. In some cases when I refreshed the page, the video would be presented, but often I would see only a black box.

Disappointed, left with bad taste in my mouth. Found out after paying that I could have saved 10$ with a coupon.

Purchased your boat smart book. Studied, was ready to write exam online. only to find that I would have to restudy online again in order to write exam. Students should be notified in the printed version that this does not qualify to write online exam.

The modules were easy to read. The only problem I had was the main photo examples did not load or did not show up on my computer screen, they were completely blank. I had to refer to the small pictures that were sometimes available or just go by the verbal description which made it harder with no visual example.

Unfortunately I found the entire process excessively long. Over all too many modules.

Hi Amanda - Thanks for taking the time to provide a review. At this time, we are unable to change the length of the course as the 3-hour timer is required in Canada by Transport Canada, and required in the U.S. by NASBLA. We understand this may be frustrating for students, however, please understand that the 3-hour timer ensures that all students are able to fully understand all of the course content. Every course provider must meet this requirement and in order to be able to take the course online, from the comfort of home, students must spend 3 hours in the course. Thanks for hanging in there - your 3 hours of studying will get you a lifetime of safe boating fun!

I took the online quizes before doing the final exam. After each module there is a quiz which was the same information as the boat smart book i had purchased which helped me gain understanding and knowledge for the quizes. When i took the final exam i found the questions were not the same and the information was not in my boat smart book which made it hard for me to answer correctly. I failed the final exam the first time by 1%!!!!!! and overall it took me about 7 hours to complete :(

I had a great deal of trouble signing/getting into the test site to do the course and complete the test. It took several phone calls and I was told that the Explorer Browser has given some problems so to try the Chrome Browser which meant of course downloading and setting preferences for another online internet browser. This was a little tedious and I must admit that if I had not already paid my Fee I would have likely moved on to another provider of the course. I also found that even then some of the video in the course material did not play very well with interruptions and restarts required.

The amount of time required to pass before you an proceed to next portion of a module seems arbitrarily set. Some slides had little to no information, yet I had to wait minutes to proceed. Combine the fact that some people have prior knowledge, the delay makes the entire process frustrating.

The Boatsmart program is very comprehensive and covers all of the right bases. However, the mandatory timers are awful and make the process take an excessively long time for information that is not that complicated. I suggest either reducing the mandatory time on each module or remove the timer altogether so that the program can be completed within a reasonable amount of time.

Hi Jason - we understand that you may find the 3-hour course lengthy in duration. However, please understand that the course content and 3-hour timers are a Transport Canada & NASBLA requirement and are consistent across all course providers. This is to allow you the convenience of taking the course from the comfort of home. The timer ensures that you get all of the information you need to successfully pass the Test, without having to sit through an 8-hour, classroom course.

Extremely long and drawn out videos. Many point valueable and necessary---some things redundant and unnecessary (I.e how to clean a life jacket) Also it would be helpful to give people the idea of how long the entire process will take ahead of time. A long time ago these boat tests could be done in one sitting.

I liked the fact that I could do the course then stop and come back. I found that it was cumbersome to have to press play everytime. I understand that this is more conducive to learning because it keeps me engaged, but this could be done in another way. Overall the course is educational and well done - the graphics and animations are good... but it is long.

far too much information to digest..should be sectioned ie pleasure boat, commercial, cruisers etc. A module approsch would make this more user friendly, [and more effect re learning]

I finished the exam and passed the course back in June. I hadn't received the boat license in the mail so I called on September 7th and was told that a copy would be mailed out. There seemed to have been a computer glitch that shows two cards were requested to be sent in June when I finished the course but they were never sent. She said she was sending me a card in the mail. I still haven't received the card. If I haven't received it in another week I will call again to try to get one sent out.
