Was good! But it doesn't mention the exam is open book. So you don't really think to take notes to look off of. Also the quizzes should tell you what you get wrong. Or else you don't know what to study or look over cause you Have no idea

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback Olivia! Since your BOATsmart!® Test is open book and unsupervised, we aren't able to identify which questions were answered wrong. This is a Transport Canada regulation to protect the integrity of the online testing.

Hello I finished the boat smart course and test and found it quite useful. I did not think it was necessary to have a bikini clad woman as part of the video on safety especially the front photo of her breasts. What purpose does this serve for teaching safety? I did not see a man in a similar outfiit? This is 2017.! Brenda

The course material was comprehensive and I had no difficulty in passing the test. My comments on improvement are as follows: - I was surprised by the number of spelling errors in the presentations. Most were misspelt words that wouldn't be caught by "spellcheck" such as using "fallow" where "follow" was the intended meaning. This reflects poorly on BOATsmart. - The production value of the animated presentation slides was low, graphics were not engaging and were often repeated. This caused me to "tune out" often and not pay attention. Perhaps attempting to integrate some slides with live action video or even increasing the still slides with summary information to simply read would be far more engaging.

The material covered everything in the exam but it seemed pretty basic. There was a lot of common sense stuff that while is a good reminder seemed excessive and I, personally, would have liked to have some more in depth coverage of boating laws and navigation.

Thanks for the feedback Jordan! We're always looking for ways to improve the course and will definitely take this into consideration.

Some videos shorter than the required time on page, would be nice to be able to view an entire module instead of having to click next and play on every single section.

Long and boring. You repeated a lot of information on the quiz. It would be nice to know what I got wrong for future reference and knowledge. I thought I was finished then all of a sudden you give me another test. OMG! I did learn about the different bouyes and signal devices, some of which I had never seen before.

I think this a very good course BUT the reason I did not give it a great overall mark was......1) I think that you should insist that everyone gets the book. That is the ONLY way that people are going to review the information and go over it with other people. I will review my book 3 or 4 times a year. 2) I made 7 mistakes on the final. If you do not tell me about my mistakes then how am I supposed to learn. For all I know my answer on the buoy question was right and I go out and make a huge mistake on the water. 3) I know that you are worried about people cheating BUT it is still very important that they are given the correct information. You need feed back from your tests. Take care and good luck.......Ron Wilkinson ps........Our book will always remain on our coffee table at the lake for all to read including our grandchildren.

Hi Derek - thanks for taking time to leave a review. Good news - we do have a BOATsmart! reference book (study guide) that contains all the material that is contained in the course! It is available to purchase during registration, online at boatsmartmarine.com, and available at most Canadian Tire stores.

Thanks for your review. We understand the test can take awhile for some students, but the time requirements and quizzes are required by Transport Canada (or NASBLA) to ensure all students are able to fully understand all content. The timed requirements are the same across all course providers, and we find many students prefer the convenience of completing the course from the comfort of home, rather than in a classroom setting. Thanks for sticking with it, and safe boating!

Thanks for your review. We understand there is a lot to learn in the course, but that's because there is so much to ensure you are a safe boater. We constantly review our course materials to ensure they are up-to-date and meeting student needs. Our content is required by Transport Canada and is consistent across all providers. We find that many students prefer the convenience of completing the course online, rather than at an in-person course, which can take a minimum of 8 hours. Thanks for sticking with it. Safe boating!

Took way to long !!! Took me 7 hours. I wish we could see what questions we get wrong !! Instead of having to redo the whole module.now I took the time to make 14 pages of notes.i did learn a lot .

I have been cruising medium-sized sailboats for 35 years. Noticed several minor errors, mainly overgeneralization in small power-boat operations. However my major beef is that while I could have challenged the exam (but learned one thing: *16/#16 for emergency on cell phone), the timers on each page were very cumbersome. They made me waste time/multi-task to minimize wasted time. Get rid of them I also didn't like that while I was given a grade on the unit tests, I wasn't shown where any errors were so that I could review material. Didn't really matter as I scored (as expected) 96% in less than 15 minutes, but that's really bad instructional design.

Thanks for the review Walter. We understand the timers can be frustrating for quick readers, but they are required by Transport Canada (or NASBLA) to ensure all students take the time to truly read and understand the information. All course providers have the same time requirements.

It would be nice if the timing was fixed on the videos so the video wouldn't start repeating because there is still time left on the countdown.

Website have a problem and no any warning message. If you already know there is problem in your website connecting with final exam(Transport Canada), you should show a message to everyone. I wasted a lot time to try entering final exam.

Actual course was great but when I went to write test would not connect to the test. Phoned the number and waited forever to speak to someone as to why the test wasn't coming up. Hung up. Not real happy about that. This morning connected fine and got my cert.

The course was a little too detailed for the boating that we do, fishing and pleasure boating on the lakes in Manitoba, but I still gained some confidence and more understanding of things I should know. Thanks!

Hi Jordan - Thanks for taking the time to provide a review. At this time, we are unable to change the length of the course as the 3-hour timer is required in Canada by Transport Canada, and required in the U.S. by NASBLA. We understand this may be frustrating for students, however, please understand that the 3-hour timer ensures that all students are able to fully understand all of the course content. Every course provider must meet this requirement and in order to be able to take the course online, from the comfort of home, students must spend 3 hours in the course. Thanks for hanging in there - your 3 hours of studying will get you a lifetime of safe boating fun!

Whenever someone does a test, they need to know where they made a mistake so they can correct them. Those who don't know will go out on their boat and make the same mistakes they made out on the water. That is not safe!! They need to know where they made a mistake. How can we improve if we don't know what the mistake was?
